25.01.2022 Just a reminder that as previously advised, Cycle Science Mitcham will be closed today Wednesday 8 July for a holiday. The shop will be open again 9am Thursday and will operate normal hours during the Level 3 lockdown announced by the Premier yesterday for Melbourne and its environs. We will of course comply with all DHHS advice. Hand sanitiser is at the door for your convenience and staff will be maintaining, and if necessary, asking patrons to maintain social distancing pro...tocols. We will be open for bike repairs of all types. remember we have an excellent reputation in this regard and also have some capabilities not available in other shops, such as wheel building, metal turning, metal fabrication, carbon fiber repair etc. Unfortunately our available stock of bicycles for sale is severely limited at this time. Supply lines are intact and bicycle stock is coming however it will take time to catch up with demand. Just an unprecedented FYI. Bicycle sales in Australia were 4 times normal during the last level 3 lock down! That is why the bicycle company warehouses are mostly empty!

24.01.2022 For those who have never seen this stuff, it shows just one small section of the wonderfully diverse world of cycling. Air is very thick stuff when you go fast!

20.01.2022 We've all learnt how to keep our distance this year. Keep it up on the road and give people riding bikes at least 1m space when passing.

16.01.2022 Today I came out to find my bicycle was gone. I called the police and within a matter of hours they had tracked down the thief. He was arrested for peddling stolen goods.

14.01.2022 It is our sad duty to inform all friends and customers of Cycle Science Mitcham that our long time bike shop manager Berlin passed away yesterday. Her death, at an age of 14 years and 8 months, resulted from complications of liver cancer. She will be terribly missed.

12.01.2022 1880-1883 BSA Otto ~ 54 Wheels "Dicycle" ~ Laurie ~ "According to research by Andrew Pattle and Wayne Mann, in their excellent booklet ‘Mr Otto’s Bicycle’..., BSA built 953 Ottos between 1880 and 1883. As this is No 693, I assume it to be a BSA machine. It was subsequently called a ‘Dicycle’ as it was not a tricycle but, despite only having two wheels, was not exactly a bicycle. This very original example was part of the Keeley Collection, and was kept in dry storage for the past 40 years. It requires steel belts for motivation." 11.01.2022 More people across Victoria are jumping on their bikes to get from A to B. When you’re driving, give space and be patient so everyone can get home safely.

05.01.2022 Just a shout out to all our customers after the Premier's announcement about further restrictions from midnight Wednesday 5 August 2020. Cycle Science will continue to operate as a "click and collect" (or phone and collect) retail facility. This means you will not be allowed to enter the store, however we will bring goods or repaired bikes outside to you and accept contact less payment.... It also seems that as a provider of "Transport support services", we are allowed to continue to accept bikes for repair under the same conditions. As part of our required "Covid safe plan" we will record your contact details for future reference. These details will be used IF AND ONLY IF there is a medical need, for contact tracing purposes. Any questions Pm us or give us a call on 03 98748033. Lets beat this virus .

01.01.2022 This was in this morning's Age newspaper folks. Keep your cycling local, unless its for the other 3 reasons to go out. "Melburnians caught exercising outside their local area could face $1652 fine By Timna Jacks... People could be fined $1652 for exercising in a location outside of their local area under Victorias COVID-19 lockdown rules. In a clarification of its advice on travel restrictions, the state government has prohibited travelling to an area far away from home for exercise. It means if you live in the suburb of Spotswood, you cannot drive 20 minutes to South Yarra to go for a walk around the Royal Botanic Gardens. Cyclists must stick to their closest cycling trails."

01.01.2022 It's Friday brainteaser time! Dr Jonathan Webb, the ABC's science editor will be on ABC Radio National Breakfast with Hamish McDonald to share the answer after 8.30am. We will also post it here in the comments at 5pm. Happy solving!
