20.01.2022 Loving all the Sundews glistening seductively beside the tracks @cycletrek - but if you are a small insect it could be the end of your story ! They land on the sundew pad and immediately are trapped by the sticky hairs which close over it. The insect is then gradually absorbed by the plant. 19.01.2022 Today’s find is the beautiful Bird Orchid. Though fairly numerous across the property, there are 4 of them in this location this year. They appeared here for many years through the 1990s and early 2000s then flew away for a number of years, with just leaf rosettes recently. 12.01.2022 Uni student Adrianna (studying Broadcasting) is doing an assignment on living sustainability. She visited today to learn about living with a stand alone power system (not connected to the grid) so we explained and showed her around our house system and the eco-cabin one. Also discussed passive solar design, gravity feed water pressure as well as wood heating, cooking and hot water wetbacks. Stuff we take for granted is a whole new discovery adventure for her.

02.01.2022 We have had a tiny solar power system on the eco-cabin@Kambarang since the mid 1990s. Today Terry from Smart Solar Options (ph 0408829865) is installing the upgrade of our stand alone power system (not grid connect). We will now be able to get rid of the gas fridge and guests will be able to run a few appliances. And no more running out of power at night after cloudy days - or down to 1 light occurrences! Some may say it won’t be as much fun as living on the edge (for power consumption!)
