22.01.2022 A neutral seat tilt is essential to enable a balanced body weight distribution and to minimise shearing forces that can contribute to #kneepain whilst riding. So what is neutral tilt when the profile of many seats isnt flat, and your weight will bend the seat shell and compress parts of the padding? One quick test is that you should be able - whilst sitting upright - to take your hands off your bars without sliding forward or backward more than a few millimetres. If you want to learn more about #bikefits and #cyclinginjury prevention check out my eBooks at https://www.cyclingphysiotherapycentre.com.au. #cyclingphysio #lucasowen #theperfectbike

21.01.2022 The SemiPro's have been given pride of place in the display cabinet, and are ready indeed for Melbourne's finest. BTW Nathan, a group of cobras is apparently called a 'quiver', so it would seem fitting for you to appropriate the name for a batch of their carbon fibre namesakes.

21.01.2022 The ideal seat fore/aft position optimises your pedalling efficiency and muscle activation, minimises shearing forces on your knees and ensures a balanced body weight distribution. 13.01.2022 Cycling is often recommended for people with knee injuries that are aggravated by weight-bearing, but it can also cause #kneepain due to overuse or incorrect seat height. Youre more likely to have pain in the front of your knee if your seats too low, whereas pain behind your knee or on the outside of your knee is more common if your seats too high. Find the solutions to all of your #cyclingpain or #cyclinginjuries in my eBooks - available now from the website link in my bio. #cyclingphysio #lucasowen #theperfectbike

12.01.2022 Ideal cleat position prevents knee pain by minimising shearing forces on your knee joints, balancing muscle recruitment, optimising pedalling technique and foot stability. If you want to find out how to select your ideal cycling equipment and then how to set it up correctly check out my eBooks - available from the link in my bio. #cyclingphysio #lucasowen #theperfectbike

12.01.2022 The most common cause of hip pain in cyclists is due to hip flexor tightness, which results from the shortened position of these muscles when bent forward on your bike. Hip flexor tightness also tends to cause outward rotation of the hip when pedalling which shifts your knee alignment away from the midline. Stretching and massage can alleviate hip flexor tightness, as well as using the correct crank length and riding position - you can learn more in my eBooks available at www.cyclingphysiotherapycentre.com.au #cyclingphysio #lucasowen #theperfectbike #cyclinghippain

11.01.2022 Riding with cranks that are too long can cause hip pain due to excessive hip flexion or pelvic tilting. If you have advanced hip joint degeneration, a labrum tear or FAI then shorter cranks can help to minimise symptoms if you choose to delay or avoid hip surgery. #cyclingphysio #lucasowen #theperfectbike

06.01.2022 Hip pain when cycling may just be the result of glutes tightness. Your gluteal or buttock muscles help to produce power when pedalling, especially at higher intensities and during seated climbing. These muscles can be the primary source of pain in the hip region, but this can be relieved by massage, stretching and dry needling. 05.01.2022 The patella tendon and quadriceps tendon are especially prone to injury from rapid increases in the volume and intensity of #cyclingtraining. Applying ice after training and isometric strength exercises can help, as well as avoiding training on consecutive days until symptoms abate. 03.01.2022 SOCIAL MEDIA NEW TRICKS FOR AN OLD DOG Thanks to the encouragement and insistence of a growing number of my clients I have finally been convinced to become an active contributor, rather than just a passive consumer, of social media. So, as I come to grips with the world of Twitter hashtags and YouTube uploads and Facebook status updates, I hope that over time I will be seen to be adding a worthwhile voice to the social media stream.... Onwards and upwards it is then sounds just like a great ride in the hills really ;-)

01.01.2022 Hip joint impingement or femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is caused by a mis-match in the shape of the hip ball and socket. The deep hip flexion required when cycling, especially with a low handlebar position, can lead to hip pain if the bones are impinging on each other. A common compensation to avoid the impingement and pain is to rotate the hip outward resulting in an outward orientation of the knee. Shorter cranks and an ideal riding position can help - you can learn more in my eBooks available from the link in my bio. #cyclingphysio #lucasowen #theperfectbike
