25.01.2022 We've had a wonderful week meeting new people and promoting Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast. Thank you all for being so supportive and our team says a huge thank you to those who have volunteered to help us. On Wednesday night, Community Captain Wayne was asked to be the guest speaker at Runaway Bay Lions Club. Wayne reports he was warmly welcomed by an enthusiastic club and really enjoyed their fellowship and support. President Jean also had the honour on behalf of the club to give a generous donation to Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast. We really appreciate the wonderful support and encouragement from Runaway Bay Lions Club. The club lived up to its motto "We Make Things Happen." Your generous donation will not only "Make Things Happen", it will keep them happening for a long time.

24.01.2022 Behind the scenes our team has been working on some very important projects and we are now able to tell you our great news. Thanks to many wonderful supporters who share our dream of bringing a smile to our elderly and people with disability, we have placed an order for Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast's first trishaw and it is expected to arrive by the end of the year. Work has already commenced to raise funds for our second trishaw and a bike which can carry people who us...e wheelchairs. In the coming weeks we will be in our community training new volunteer pilots and raising awareness. Next Saturday and Sunday 26th & 27th September will be our first training sessions for new volunteer 'pilots' at Paradise Point Parklands. There are a few training spots available for those who want be part of such a wonderful initiative, but they are limited and filling fast. On Monday 28th September at 9.00am we will be hosting Stuart Robert MP, Federal Member for Fadden at Paradise Point Parklands and demonstrating how Cycling Without Age brings joy to its passengers and pilots. Come down to meet the team, support Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast and be part of this wonderful event. Some very special guests have been invited to celebrate this occasion and our good friends at Arcare Aged Care have graciously donated the use of two trishaws. The team have been practicing their BBQ skills for our first Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Arundel on 3rd October. We'll post more details about the Sausage Sizzle soon. It's not too late to be part of any of these events. Some good advice is to act quickly though. To find out how Cycling Without Age can help you to support your community and have a ton of fun at the same time, send an email to: [email protected] We look forward to having you on our team. 24.01.2022 It certainly was another busy day for the team at Cycling Without Age Gold Coast meeting people, demonstrating and explaining our initiative. Our Community Captain, Wayne demonstrated our initiative at Volunteer Marine Rescue Southport to a very interested and appreciative John Paul Langbroek, MP for Surfers Paradise and some of the wonderful crew from VMR. After loading 'Nessie' the trishaw, it was a quick trip to the Rotary Club of Surfers Sunrise Members Men's Shed to meet with their members and Cr Brooke Patterson to discuss the many possibilities of our initiative. Thank you all for a warm welcome, your encouragement and valued support.

23.01.2022 What a fabulous day and congratulations to Valerie, Jess and Kath for their wonderful efforts during training today. It was a pleasure to work with you and watch your confidence grow as you became more familiar with riding the Arcare Aged Care trishaw. We appreciate the ongoing support we receive from Arcare Aged Care in loaning us their trishaw. It is great to have a few more ladies on the team. We are all looking forward to becoming a part of the landscape at Paradise ...Point and throughout the Gold Coast. One thing we may have to work on is riding with a periscope for our more vertically challenged people when the canopy is being used - see the second photo to see what I mean. A huge thanks To Rob once again for coming down to help out with training today. Your guidance, advice and assistance are invaluable. Thanks mate! Now here's a coincidence - Pilots Rob, Colin, Valerie and Wayne all share the same birthday - this Wednesday 21st October. How amazing that 4 people in one small group share the same birthday? It is going to be a great celebration day on Wednesday. Well done team, congratulations and happy birthday for Wednesday. See more

21.01.2022 Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast is all about generosity and serving. Today we thank other people for their generosity and we will be serving our community in a totally different way. Some of our dedicated team will be demonstrating their BBQ skills at our first Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Arundel. We'd like to say a huge thanks to Cav's Butchery for generously donating some of their famous sausages. The team have been busy all night practicing their BBQ skills and drills and look forward to serving you in a different way today. Come along for a sausage between 8.00am and 4.00pm today - Bunnings Arundle

20.01.2022 Cycling Without Age Gold Coast reached a milestone today with three new Trishaw pilots receiving their 'wings' and also taking two beautiful residents from Arcare Aged Care Pimpama for a lovely ride. Congratulations to Tim from Arcare Aged Care Pimpama for completing the rigorous test with flying colours. Your passengers will be able to sit comfortably and enjoy the wonderful scenery and wildlife knowing you passed with honours. After Tim's assessment, Community Captain Way...ne took Arcare residents Necia and Mary for an enjoyable ride to Bim’bimba park Pimpama where they spotted beautiful Grevilleas and Acacias in flower. I'm not allowed to say if some flowers ended up in vases in their rooms. Cycling Without Age Gold Coast volunteers Derrick and Brenda Murray also received their wings after being put through their paces for several gruelling hours. We treasure our relationship with Arcare Aged Care and are immensely appreciative of being able to borrow their trishaw 'Nessie'. Having more trained 'pilots' increases the capability to bring more joy to more people. Thanks everyone for your great work! See more

20.01.2022 Lovely message to Cycling Without Age from City of Melville, Canada. We are looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Gold Coast lifestyle and giving our most vulnerable citizens 'The Right To Wind In Their Hair.'

19.01.2022 Our followers may recall a recent post about Community Captain Wayne’s Mum who has dementia. The team at Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast have been touched by the heartfelt support and best wishes received from our community resulting from that post. Many requests for an update have also been received. Wayne took lots of photos during the weekend and had a photo book made online. During the next week he received many phone calls and messages from family members asking what mi...racle had occurred with Mum. One family member commented Dementia gone? In the month since his Mum and Dad had rides on the trishaw and chatted with wonderful members of our community, there has been a marked improvement in both his Mum and Dad. Mum is still mentioning the weekend and seems to have a new lease of life. As a result of the improvement in Mum, Dad is also coping so much better. We are not making any type of miraculous claim but will most definitely say the experience offered by Cycling Without Age Gold Coast has been extremely beneficial for Captain Wayne’s Mum and Dad. His Dad will not leave the house anymore without half a dozen Cycling Without Age brochures and doesn’t hesitate to give them to whoever he talks to. He has turned into a raving fan and is our best advertising agent. Captain Wayne’s Mum even gave him a brochure and explained all about Cycling Without Age. She knew she’d been on the trishaw but forgot who her pilot was. Bless them both, we are proud to have made a difference and look forward to having them in the passenger seat again soon. 17.01.2022 There's great rejoicing within our team this morning with the big news that our YouTube superstar Natalie will be our special guest next Monday 28th September when we host Stuart Robert MP. We are so fortunate Natalie and her Mum Denise are such a big supporters of Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast. Come and meet Natalie and Denise and if you're really lucky Natalie's co-star Veronica will make a special appearance also. 17.01.2022 Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast joined with our wonderful friends and partners Tim Rogers and Dana Fink from Cycling Without Age - Sunshine Coast for the second relationship building meeting with the CEO of Bicycle Queensland Rebecca Randazzo (on screen) and Director of Advocacy Andrew Demack today. It was a highly productive meeting and we thank Rebecca and Andrew for being so enthusiastic about the amazing achievements of our teams at Cycling Without Age - Australia. We are also excited about the possibility of working closely with Bicycle Queensland to share and promote the joys of cycling for every member of our community regardless of age or mobility restrictions.

14.01.2022 It has been yet another busy week for the team at Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast spreading the word and forming new partnerships. We were delighted to be invited to meet Donna and her wonderful team at Dementia Australia and discuss how we can work in partnership to assist their members. Talk about foresight, one team member made me feel even more welcome by wearing a blouse with a bike on it. Thank you Donna and crew for such a positive and fruitful meeting, once again confirming Cycling Without Age is about relationships. We know this the start of something fabulous. Support our team to support others by sponsoring a trishaw today: https://chuffed.org/p/cycling-without-age-on-the-gold-coast

13.01.2022 The team at Cycling Without Age Gold Coast are on constant lookout for anything which will enhance the experience for our passengers, and send them home with a long-lasting super smile and a great story to tell. We are so blessed to live on the Gold Coast, Queensland with beautiful weather, wonderful features and attractions. One of our approved routes includes the lovely shared path to Ian Dipple Lagoon at Charis Seafoods where the Pelican Feeding takes place at 1.30pm ...daily. The team took some time today to take in the sights and discuss how we can incorporate various activities into our schedule. The great news is, we have a cunning plan. The support from our community has been fabulous and inspires the team to work incredibly hard to raise funds to buy trishaws so we can offer free rides to our elderly and people with disability. We have the facilities, we have the paths and attractions and we have an enormous demand for the Cycling Without Age experience. We just need funds for trishaws. 13.01.2022 Generosity is the first guiding principle of Cycling Without Age. It works its magic at every level and the team at Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast experienced it in abundance last week. It is humbling to have been the recipient of generosity from so many wonderful people and organisations and I have been asked to express our sincerest thanks and appreciation. We would like to thank our friends at Top Fresh Bakery Labrador for generously donating some wonderfully fresh bread... for our Bunnings BBQ on Saturday as well as the many people who came to support us and help fundraise for our next trishaw. Speaking of generosity, magic and our next trishaw, the team were blown away by the most amazing couple who arrived to say "Hi, we love what you do. Oh by the way, we'd like to donate one trishaw." For the first time ever, yours truly was lost for words. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Your gift will continue to bring joy to so many for a very long time. We are putting a special call out for a bike mechanic to do some maintenance on our hydraulic brakes. If you know of a bike mechanic who can help us for an hour or so, please let us know. See more

13.01.2022 Mum has dementia. These days, she can't follow a conversation and has a 7 second memory - on a good day. She has forgotten how to do the simple things like answer the phone. Dad is 89 and cares for her but that is highly stressful. Last Thursday Dad phoned me. He was the most upset I had ever heard and having trouble coping with Mum. I suggested they spend the weekend with me and warned them it would be a weekend of Cycling Without Age promotion and activity. If they became b...ored, I was going to send them home in a taxi to watch TV. On Saturday morning Mum asked numerous times where we were going and why. I told her where, and that they were going for a ride in the trishaw. She asked if there was one at the place we were going. It was in the trailer I was towing and I spent quite a bit of time explaining it to her before she got in the car. After a day of enjoying rides and chatting with people, I took Mum and Dad home. That night Mum said how much she enjoyed riding in 'that bike' during the day. THAT WAS ASTOUNDING! On Sunday Mum and Dad again rode in the trishaw and chatted with the very receptive community. On Sunday night Mum told me what wonderful friends I had and how well they treated Dad and her. AGAIN ASTOUNDING! My brother called on Wednesday so excited to say Mum had described details from the weekend, including what people were wearing. Last Monday Dad's blood pressure was 190/65. This week it was 124/86. He asked if I thought the weekend's activities contributed to the reduction. I'm not a GP, but I can say with confidence that it did no harm. My Aunty posted on Facebook "I haven't heard your mum so excited and alive since I don't know when, it was a real joy to hear." I have read lots about the benefits of Cycling Without Age for dementia patients and the elderly and not fully appreciated the effects. Now it is real. I believe beyond doubt there was no other activity which could have produced these results with my parents. Cycling Without Age Gold Coast deserves a Gold Medal. Do you know someone whose parents could benefit from an activity such as this? 10.01.2022 Just when we thought our weekend couldn't get any better, we spent the day at Paradise Point. Wayne's Mum and Dad again stole the show chatting to so many locals, one could have been forgiven for thinking they were on the campaign trail. Our incredible team were warmly received by everyone they spoke with. We are so blessed to have Kerrianne, Gus, Derrick, Brenda, Aidan, Colin, Anthony and Marg helping out. Our wonderful friends and supporters, Kyla and Olga from Volunteerin...g Gold Coast came along to help promote Cycling Without Age Gold Coast and shared the joy with us. We are really encouraged by the warmth shown by the community and the many words of affirmation we received. We're excited about the prospect of becoming a regular part of our Paradise Point lifestyle. The link to our crowdfunding is posted for those generous people who asked how they could make a tax deductible donation: https://chuffed.org/p/cycling-without-age-on-the-gold-coast See more

09.01.2022 What a bonzer week it has been for the team at Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast and there's no end in sight to the wonderful things happening. On Monday we hosted Stuart Robert MP, demonstrating how a trishaw ride brings joy to our elderly and disabled friends. We were privileged to be so well supported by Runaway Bay Lions Club, Rotary Club Hope Island and Volunteering Gold Coast. We are immensly appreciative to Arcare Aged Care and Arcare Aged Care Pimpama for allowing us t...o borrow two trishaws for this event. A special part of our demonstration was the announcement of a $6,000 donation by our amazing partners Rockpool Real Estate. Thank you so much Brad and Tara. Once again our superstar Natalie stole the show with her radiant smiles. Thanks Nat for everything you do for us. The good news continued with City of Gold Coast announcing we were successful with our application for a $5,000 COVID Recovery Grant. We now have the 50% deposit required to purchase the Gold Coast's second trishaw, which means we will be able to offer over 7,000 rides per year once this is fully funded. None of this would have been possible without the unparallelled support and hard work of so many organisations and huge-hearted people. We are humbled and sincerely thank you all. On Saturday (3rd October) Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast will be holding their first Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Arundel. Please come along, buy a sausage (or five), meet some of our incredible team and support our amazing initiative. https://twitter.com/9newsgoldco/status/1310486789224792064 https://www.facebook.com/840702249361798/videos/808297236609373 See more

08.01.2022 That moment you forget you’re volunteering to help change people’s lives, because it’s changing yours...

07.01.2022 Cycling Without Age Gold Coast is buzzing with the excitement of our latest announcement. After partnering with our wonderful friends at Volunteering Gold Coast, we were delighted to be included in their Corporate Partners Program. Last week we received the news that Brad and Tara Wallis from Rockpool Real Estate were interested in the Cycling Without Age initiative and wished to have a meeting to see if Cycling Without Age meets their community minded values of contribution and making a difference in the lives of others. We are incredibly excited to introduce our new partner, Rockpool Real Estate. Thank you Brad and Tara, we really appreciate your efforts to ensure our wheels start turning and the very helpful push from Volunteering Gold Coast.

07.01.2022 Yesterday we continued our training at Paradise Point Parklands with Colin Mancey riding scout with Rob while fine tuning their trishaw riding skills. Congratulations on such a successful day. It became obvious later in our chit-chat session why they both worked so well together, both have the same birthdays - next Wednesday 21st October. You can say a very special happy birthday to Rob and Colin and help them support our most vulnerable citizens with a donation to Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast: https://chuffed.org/p/cycling-without-age-on-the-gold-coast Maybe we will even reveal how old Colin will be on Wednesday.

04.01.2022 Our team of wonderful volunteers is expanding and I am pleased to say how impressed I am with the talents of our newly trained pilots and their unbridled willingness to bring joy and smiles to our community. We are immensly appreciative to our good friends at Arcare Aged Care and Arcare Aged Care Pimpama for allowing us to borrow two trishaws. We appreciate your support for the community and Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast. Congratulations on gaining your wings go to our n...ewest trishaw pilots, Colin, Peter, Rob and Anthony. Whilst displaying incredible willingness to learn new skills they were busy recruiting another batch of prospective pilots and scouts. Marg is also well on her way to gaining her wings, having already put in a few hours in the saddle. Well done Marg for your sense of humour and keeping a big smile on our faces, not to mention being able to reach the pedals. Look for us again today when we return to Paradise Point Parklands to train more amazing trishaw pilots. Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast is looking forward to hosting Stuart Robert MP tomorrow (28th September at 9.00 am) at Paradise Point Parklands to showcase how Cycling Without Age brings joy to our elderly citizens and people with disability. Don't forget our YouTube superstar Natalie will be our guest of honour. Come along to meet Nat and listen for a very special announcement from our fabulous partners at Rockpool Real Estate See more

03.01.2022 Someone asked how we measured our success. It's by smiles to the miles! Just ask Sarka.

03.01.2022 The team at Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast continues to grow and we are amazed at the talented people who are volunteering to make a difference in the lives of others. Our latest graduate from pilot training school is Michael, a very well known and loved local identity. Congratulations on gaining your wings. An avid cyclist for 37 years, Michael loves touring, especially in the European mountains and averages 30,000 km per year on his bicycle. Being such a novice on tw...o wheels, we needed to knock off some of the rough edges, and work on a few of his cycling abilities. He needed to write 50 times after school "Only 10 kph." Michael is a retired primary deputy principal and music teacher and still spends quite a bit of time on campus. We can't make any promises however, if our passengers are really lucky, our newest pilot may even provide some musical accompaniment as part of his repertoire. Welcome to the team Michael, we know how much you are looking forward to being a changemaker and how much our passengers will love the difference you make in their lives. Cycling Without Age Gold Coast needs more pilots and sponsors for trishaws. Don't miss out on this fabulous opportunity. Send an email to [email protected] to find out how you can also become a changemaker. See more

01.01.2022 We are constantly reminded about how incredibly special the Cycling Without Age initiative is. Yet another remarkable event occurred today. Community Captain Wayne was invited to meet Sam O'Connor MP, Member for Bonney. Within minutes of beginning to explain the amazing benefits for participants and volunteers alike, Sam asked if we would allow him to assist us by becoming a pilot. It was carefully explained that he needed a police check and a character reference first. I...f he checks out, we'll put him on our list. Thank you Sam O'Connor MP, your support is highly appreciated and your enthusiasm is infectious. Cycling Without Age Gold Coast looks forward to seeing you on a trishaw and giving others 'The Right To Wind In Their Hair.' See more
