25.01.2022 Carole, Marienne and Tim had fun on MixFM on Tuesday morning with Caroline and Mark! If you can help us spread the HUGE benefits of Cycling WIthout Age to many more people who need us we’d appreciate your help. Donations are fully taxdeductible. You can listen to the podcast of the interview (its shared further down on our page) Our Fundraising page is:... https://chuffed.org/proj/cycling-without-age-sunshine-coast
25.01.2022 We got some lovely media coverage for International Day of Older Persons when our local Federal Member joined us for intensive "pilot training" then helped by piloting a trisahaw for joyful rides at Caloundra Rise and Southern Cross Care. We were delighted to be able to publically thank Your Way Support Services and Southern Cross Care for both organisations' generosity in helping us buy a trishaw that can carry wheelchairs. We also thank everyone else who has donated to help our expansion. There's a link to our fundraising page in the comments below if you want to help us with a tax deductible donation.
24.01.2022 EXCITING NEWS and a huge THANK YOU!! WOW: Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman and family are supporting us to buy an additional Trishaw, with an amazing donation of $20,000!! We can’t expand without support like this. This trishaw will mean we can bring the joy of rides to more people, in more places on the Sunshine Coast and surrounds. Almost daily we’re getting calls from individuals or organisations hoping we can help them, just this week we locked in rides for two more aged ...care and disability services....but more about that in later posts.... TODAY we want to say a huge THANK YOU to Keith and Nicole and family for their generosity, and for their words of support and encouragement for Cycling Without Age Sunshine Coast. When the new trishaw arrives (hopefully around Christmas) it’ll be put to great use...WE’RE EXCITED!
24.01.2022 A picture paints a thousand words, but you had to be there to smell the ocean! Everyone loved the smell of the ocean and the wind in their hair at our first community group ride at Kings Beach last Wednesday. This quick snap captures the contentment and companionship at the end of our ride session:... Karl and Maureen walking hand in hand (right), Rita and Lyn walking arm in arm (left), Beth and Judy, our final passengers arriving back at base with Pilot Paul, and a bus load of our happy passengers ready to head home in the background. Snap 2 is Lyn and Bob with pilot Joe loving life as they come back along the Coastal Pathway after their beautiful ride through Happy Valley. Tagging Southern Cross Care Qld Ltd for our lovely Caloundra Rise passengers.
22.01.2022 EXPANDING RIDES and meeting our newest centenarian passenger, Fay who will celebrate her 103rd birthday soon. (Photos are from our first ever ride at Seasons Senior Living Caloundra) We are delighted to be running rides out of 7 different Aged Care Homes or retirement villages as of this month:... Caloundra Rise, Southern Cross Care Qld Ltd, Seasons Seniors' Living (Caloundra), Opal Kawana, Blue Care Caloundra, Churches of Christ Care, and OzCare Carolyn Chisholm Currimundi are all having rides, and a growing number of other organisations are keen to start with us as soon as possible. We’re also running a community ride at Kings Beach on Wednesday afternoons (more info will follow in another post soon). We love it, and its beyond rewarding when someone like Fay our latest centenarian passenger thanks us for helping her enjoy getting beyond the fence of her home for the first time in 7 months! Fay is heading towards 103 amazing years. It was OUR privilege Fay, thank YOU. We want to thank all our volunteers who are making this growth possible, and our partners in the organisations who have welcomed us to their homes.
20.01.2022 This lovely ride was yesterday afternoon at Kings Beach and was our first ride that spanned 4 generations from Great-Gran Anne, to her Great-granddaughter Elizabeth, in one ride. We’ll be starting regular rides on Wednesday afternoons at Kings Beach very soon. We also have a lovely bit of video from this ride that we’ll post soon.
19.01.2022 A Remembrance Day Story from a recent ride with Val and John Val and John met in India in WW2 when John was there as an Air Gunner in B24 Liberator Bombers. They’ve been married 73 years (!!) and neither can walk as far as they used to, being nearly 96 (John) and 91 (Val) though they still live independently in a retirement village. The ride was a few weeks ago but Remembrance Day seemed the right day to share it, given the following story from when John was about 20.... The video is of John remembering elements of his war service (including some hair raising ones) when he visited a B24 being renovated in Victoria a couple of years ago. https://youtu.be/wbpNwDFKLBg Photos from the ride are in the comments (can’t post photos and video simultaneously)
18.01.2022 Now you can listen to the fun we had with Mark and Caroline on 92.7 MIX FM talking about Cycling Without Age, netball and other big issues of the day :-)
17.01.2022 This was fun and Caroline and Mark put us at ease in the studio. Thanks for helping us get the word out 92.7 MIX FM
12.01.2022 WE ARE EXPANDING AND WE NEED MORE MEET AND GREET VOLUNTEERS...it’s an important and fun role, can you help us? Pilots and scouts aren’t the only volunteers having fun at Cycling Without Age Sunshine Coast. Half the fun happens before our passengers are even on the trishaws! It’s a privilege to be a Meet and Greet volunteer, and in fact the rides can’t happen without us. We ensure passengers are comfortable and happy and that everyone gets on and off the trishaws safely. One o...f the real joys is that we really get to know our passengers and their family, friends and carers. Check this video of some of our crew in action and please CONTACT US by Facebook Messenger or email: [email protected] if you’d like to join us in this role. https://youtu.be/vsGd0Rzwo0w
11.01.2022 Cycling Without Age is building its presence in Qld. As the Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast post says so well (below), we had a great meeting with Bicycle Queensland today. We hope we represented all the existing and emerging Chapters across Qld well in progressing this mutually beneficial collaboration between Bicycle Qld and Cycling Without Age Australia. ... Watch this space for some interesting developments we hope will happen in coming months!
07.01.2022 Happy Birthday Carolyn! Carolyn celebrated her 51st Birthday this week with her Mum Val, Dad Bob and family friends Marika, Bella, Randel, Trish, Sue and Raewyn. Carolyn can’t hear or see the ocean, but she absolutely loves the smell of it and the feel of an ocean breeze on her face.... The Pacific came to the party with a fresh sea breeze blowing the smell and feel of the ocean into a joyful birthday celebration. Carolyn’s squeals of delight were all the proof anyone needed of a great day out. It was so much fun for the Cycling Without Age Sunshine Coast crew to join Carolyn, Val and Bob’s celebrations. Thanks Carolyn :-)
