Watch zone: Mapoon to Cape York. Cancelled zones: None. Details of Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor at 1:00 pm AEST: Intensity: category 3, sustained winds near the centre of 150 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 205 kilometres per hour. Location: within 20 kilometres of 13.0 degrees South, 143.9 degrees East , 70 kilometres east southeast of Lockhart River and 225 kilometres east of Weipa . Movement: west southwest at 8 kilometres per hour . Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor continues to move west-southwest towards the eastern Cape York Peninsula coast. It is expected to cross the coast just south of Lockhart River late this afternoon or early evening. The cyclone will most likely cross as a high end category 3 system, but further intensification to category 4 cannot be ruled out. The cyclone will weaken as it crosses the northern Peninsula tonight and Wednesday, but is expected to remain a category 1 cyclone until it enters the Gulf of Carpentaria later on Wednesday. It is expected to reintensify rapidly once it enters the Gulf of Carpentaria and track towards the Northern Territory. Hazards: The VERY DESTRUCTIVE CORE of the cyclone, with extreme gusts up to 220 km/h, will make landfall near Lockhart River later this afternoon. DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, with gusts in excess of 125 km/h are expected between Cape Grenville and Coen. These DESTRUCTIVE WINDS will move some way inland with the cyclone tonight. GALES, with gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are expected in coastal areas between Orford Ness and Cape Melville today and tonight. These GALES are expected to extend inland over the Peninsula overnight and on Wednesday as the cyclone moves inland to include areas between Mapoon and Pormppuraaw during Wednesday. Gales are possible later Wednesday further north between Cape York and Mapoon if the cyclone takes a more northerly track than forecast. As the cyclone crosses the coast, a STORM TIDE is expected between Lockhart River and Cape Melville, including Princess Charlotte Bay. During Wednesday, a STORM TIDE is also expected between Cape Keerweer and Mapoon on the western Peninsula Coast. LARGE WAVES may produce minor flooding along the foreshore. People living in these areas are likely to be affected by flooding and should take measures to protect their property as much as possible and be prepared to help their neighbours. ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES are also expected around the Wednesday morning high tide for the far northeast Queensland coast, north of Port Douglas. HEAVY RAINFALL, which may lead to flash flooding, is forecast across far north Queensland today and continuing over the next few days. A Flood Warning is current for the Daintree and Mossman rivers as well as a broader Flood Watch for catchments north of Innisfail to Kowanyama. Recommended Action: People between Orford Ness and Cape Melville and adjacent inland areas (including Lockhart River and Coen), should complete preparations quickly and be prepared to shelter in a safe place. People in western Cape York Peninsula between Mapoon and Pormpuraaw (including Weipa and Aurukun) should immediately commence or continue preparations, especially securing boats and property, using available daylight hours. - Information is available from your local government. - For cyclone preparedness and safety advice, visit Queensland's Disaster Management Services website (www.disaster.qld.gov.au). - For emergency assistance call the Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) on 132 500 (for assistance with storm damage, rising flood water, fallen trees on buildings or roof damage). #CycloneWatch #Cyclone

23.01.2022 We are getting close to 15,000 fans on the page WOW Fan question, read below in full before voting please. Now the page will stop basically until the start of n...ext season and our kind of page without posting months on end really hurt the page in the way of reaching our fans when we need too due to cyclones (we don't just post about the weather every day) Pages that do nothing for a long time without posting all the time hurts the page, posts should be done almost two to three days to keep the fans interested and showing in their news feed. We feel that our fans don't want rubbish posted just to keep Facebook happy to show our page, still can't believe a page such as this, that Facebook is not making it possible to reach as many people in area's where cyclones hit. Now to the question at hand, Cyclone Watch Australia would really like to raise funds in order to expand our service and our reach in cyclone areas when a cyclone hit's an area and also to fully develop our website www.cyclonewatch.org One way to raise funds and also to keep up posts so Facebook is happy, is to start offering products on the page during the off season and quite times in the cyclone season, and NO we are not going to try and sell you sunnies at 70% off ( Ray-Ban's of course) What we are talking about is really cool things you want and uncommon things as well as raffle tickets to win really great prizes, imagine winning a prize package worth just over $170.000 to win a fully restored 1959 Corvette at $10 a ticket while helping another non for profit group at the same time!!! One idea is to also offer deals and packages to area's hit really hard by a cyclone to help in that area's recovery, if people buy and visit an area after a cyclone, it really helps them to get back on their feet, take Mission Beach, Innisfail and the Cassowary Coast area, after STC Larry and Yasi the area is still hurting, businesses are closing, sales are down and tourist numbers could be so much more and this is years after the cyclones. We have not fully worked out all the details, as in the end it's what you the fans want from this page. So it's over to you to vote on this "totally amazing idea". (yes ok I'm trying to over sell the idea, the only hard sale we will have lol) YES = Take my money NO = Good idea but no thanks PS- We are not giving away a free steak knife set with every order.
