25.01.2022 The magic of Dads It's Father's Day here in Australia so I thought I'd share some of the wonderful benefits that Dads make to their minis, ...thanks to research from the Gottman's - Dads give infants more freedom to explore + focus on developing their independence. - Dads tend to be more tactile + high energy with their little ones, which explains why the research found that 2/3rds of toddlers would pick their Dads to play with over Mums (I know my babies would!). - Through this type of play we know that it helps children regulate or manage more intense emotions! More so than the quiet, verbal + visual games that Mums tend to play. Now these are just SOME of the magical benefits of Dads! I don't know about you, but my minis are SO lucky to have a Dad that is so attuned to them + showers them with love, kindness, laughter + patience. It's so beautiful to witness + I know that by the time my little boy starts to look more to his same-sex parent (this happens around 6-7), he'll have the ultimate role model in his Daddy So here's a big HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to every kind of Dad out there today our children's lives are so much richer because of you. How have you celebrated the Dad's in your life today? With health + happiness, Gabby x x @jillianmchughphoto See more

24.01.2022 Today’s 157 push-ups represent the 15.7% of Australian women who have anxiety-related mental health issues. Anxiety-related conditions are the most common menta...l health difficulty in Australia, and females experience these conditions at one and half times the rate of males. They are even more common amongst young Australian women with nearly a quarter of females aged 15-24 having this experience. One type of treatment that can help with anxiety is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Cognitive behavioural therapy aims to identify, challenge, and ultimately change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. It teaches positive coping strategies and problem-solving skills and can help people become active participants in their own treatment. See more

21.01.2022 The glycaemic index is a value assigned to foods based on how slowly or how quickly those foods cause increases in blood sugar levels. Researchers have discover...ed that the low GI foods, which give us more stable blood sugar levels, can be useful for moderating our moods. In one example of a trial investigating the link between diet and mood, participants who stuck to a low-GI diet, with a glycaemic load of less than 125 per day, reported lower mood disturbance, fewer depressive-type symptoms, and lower levels of fatigue. Some examples of low-GI foods include sweet potatoes, multigrain bread, and basmati rice. See more

18.01.2022 People with a diagnosis of mental illness are at much higher risk of physical diseases such as diabetes, lung disease, cancer and heart disease. This is likely ...due to a number of factors, including the side effects of medications used to treat mental ill health, higher rates of cigarette smoking and alcohol use, focus on mental health treatment rather than physical health, and the social isolation and stigma that can accompany mental ill health. In Australia, this has contributed to a large life expectancy gap between those with severe mental ill health, and those without a similar diagnosis. One study estimated this gap at 16.4 years for men with a severe mental health diagnosis. Others have suggested that there could be up to a 30% reduction in total life expectancy- that’s over 20 years. See more

06.01.2022 Around 1.80 million Australians over the age of 15 feel they have insufficient social support, and one in four of us are feeling lonely three or more times per ...week. The impact of loneliness and social isolation can stretch beyond the short term and lead to increased risks of developing mental and physical ill health. Loneliness doesn’t necessarily go away if we are surrounded by people. In fact, young Australians report the highest rates of loneliness, despite often being in contact with large numbers of people every day at school, university, or work. For improving feelings of loneliness, quality is more important than quantity. Some experts suggest volunteering or joining a local club to create opportunities for building meaningful relationships. And who says all relationships need to be with humans? Companion animals can provide emotional support and owning a pet has been linked to greater social contact with other people too. See more
