17.01.2022 A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does love mean?' The answers they got were broader, deeper, and more pr...ofound than anyone could have ever imagined! 'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore... So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.' Rebecca - age 8 'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy - age 4 'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.' Karl - age 5 'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.' Chrissy - age 6 'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.' Terri - age 4 'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.' Danny - age 8 'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and just listen.' Bobby - age 7 (Wow!) 'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.' Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) 'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.' Noelle - age 7 'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.' Tommy - age 6 'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.' Cindy - age 8 'My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.' Clare - age 6 'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.' Elaine - age 5 'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.' Chris - age 7 'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.' Mary Ann - age 4 'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.' Lauren - age 4 'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image!) Karen - age 7 'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross...' Mark - age 6 'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.' Jessica - age 8 And the final one: The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry.' Now, take 60 seconds and post this for other to see. And then be a child again today!

15.01.2022 Ágnes Herczeg, Lace Artwork "My name is Ágnes Herczeg. I was born in Hungary and I still live here in a small town next to the river Danube. I started working w...ith lace works in 2013. I mainly use natural threads of plant origin like linen, hemp, cotton, jute, raphia etc. While preparing a lace work, I usually make use of threads of different origin and thickness and I also apply several techniques. I mainly use needle lace technique, which I frequently combine with pillow lace and braiding work. The frame of the pictures is made of small branches, bark, coconut shell or any other material of my liking. This 'frame' constitutes a compositional part of the picture. I lay high emphasis on planning as I have to provide not solely visual content for the picture but also elaborate its structural elements and the order of work phases as well; which may sometimes be as complicated as solving a riddle." www.agnesherczeg.com https://www.instagram.com/agnesherczeg_lace/

12.01.2022 REMEMBERING LEWIS THE KOALA AND HIS COMPASSIONATE RESCUER TONI DOHERTY... Whenever I smell eucalyptus, I think of Lewis and all of the other precious koalas that we have lost. I imagine them climbing high in those beautiful big gum trees in the sky, dropping a leaf to let me know that they are there. Sharon Rigby November 2019 19th November 2019... I’m sure that many of you, like me, were distressed and brought to tears at the sight of poor Lewis the koala crying from his burns as he was rescued from the flaming fire ground by a compassionate passer by named Toni Doherty. The news reports shocked Australia and the world, and changed the way we thought about our unique, but often taken for granted, koala population. Grandmother Toni Doherty has been hailed a hero after she rushed into smouldering bushland to rescue a koala she saw struggling to escape a raging bushfire. "It was terrifying to see him just come out of the flames... he looked so defenceless running along the road," Mrs Doherty told Today. "It was our worst fear that he ran into the flamesall I could think to do was to try and rescue him. "The poor koala, he was crying and screaming, because he was being burnt. He was burning underneath, on his little back legs... I've never heard a koala before. I didn't realise they could cry out. It was just so heart-rendering." Lewis was born approximately 2005, and lived in the beautiful eucalyptus forests at Ellenborough, which is inland from Port Macquarie on the New South Wales mid north coast. He was around 14 years old when he passed away on the 26th November 2019 at Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. Lewis spent his final moments eating eucalyptus leaves in the caring hands of volunteer Barbara Barrett. His burns were so bad that he had to be taken to her house because he needed one-on-one care at all hours of the day. Koala Conservation Australia President Sue Ashton said the little man was so tired in his final hours that he could barely eat. 'We moved him into homecare for one-on-one, round-the-clock care because we have so many koalas to look after here and he needed more attention. We recently posted that burn injuries can get worse before they get better. In Ellenborough Lewis's case, the burns did get worse, and unfortunately would not have gotten better. The Koala Hospital's number one goal is animal welfare, so it was on those grounds that this decision was made." A video of Lewis’s rescue went viral around the world. People began making koala mittens to be used to protect the affected koalas severely burned paws during recovery. The Animal Rescue Craft Guild received thousands of donated mittens from all over Australia and the world in the months after Lewis was rescued. This led to a heightened awareness of all species of Australian animals who needed help when orphaned or injured. Hundreds of thousands of healing and warming pouches, hanging bags, pods, palaces, cubbies and dreys, blankets, animal jumpers and more have since been made by Craft Guild members from all over Australia, and the world, and sent to the ARC Craft Hub where they are quickly distributed to where they are needed most. Lewis came to represent all of the koalas lost in the Black Summer fires of 2019/2020. He was responsible for raising international awareness of the plight of koalas in this country due to not just the ravages of fire, but the loss of habitat through land clearing and the subsequent loss of life when the koalas no longer have a gum tree to call home.
