23.01.2022 Dont forget your flu shot! Over 3,500 avoidable deaths occur in Australia every year from complications of seasonal flu, including pneumonia. Because of this, the government pays the cost of your flu vaccination if you are over 65 years of age, a pregnant woman, have diabetes, heart, lung and kidney disease, or have a weakened immune system. The flu can have serious and devastating outcomes. If you have missed our flu vaccination clinics, we are organising more. Due to COVID 19, we will be doing this clinic at the Huon Valley Christian Life Centre, 8 Mary Street, Cygnet. Please phone our practice on 62951460 to register for these clinics. There is no cost to you when you have the above conditions.

18.01.2022 Dr. Samantha Wyton, Simon McCluskey and Nurman Noor, with nurses Juliet Sondermeyer, Kerrie Duggan and Leah Willis. We invited Registered Nurse Leah Willis to come to chat with us about her role as a Family and Child Health Nurse. She is passionate about supporting families and provides Free child health checks, and home and clinic visits at the Cygnet Community Health Centre (62 951235). Leah is an expert in feeding and sleeping concerns in babies and toddlers. The Parenting Center's team of experienced professionals offer short-term intensive support for families experiencing difficulties with parenting (61 661605)

18.01.2022 Photo recycling We are making some changing to decrease our waste. We have vaccines arrive in polystyrofoam boxes which can be recycled into planter boxes which can be recycled into planter boxes for herbs and plants and also bubble wrapping which needs to be recycled. If anyone can use these items occasionally or on a regular basis we would love to give them away. Please contact our practice on 62 951460 or call in to register your interest.

Going for a daily walk or run is a great way to connect with nature and get some exercise in. Remember you can still go for walks with members of your household or with 1 other person, staying 1.5 metres apart. ... Bike rides are also great, just not in groups. Here is some good information from The Bicycle Network Joe The Body Coach TV runs P.E. with Joe sessions that he posts every Monday-Friday morning at 9am on YouTube. He has sessions suitable for seniors and kids too! P.E. with Joe MommaStrong is a program developed by a US physical therapist who initially developed the program for mums transitioning back into exercise postpartum. Shes now added PappaStrong, KiddoStrong and TeenStrong! 15.01.2022 Cygnet Family Practice is excited to announce that Shared Medical Appointments will recommence on Wednesday, 10th June, via video or phone call, 1-2pm, from the comfort of your own home! Shared medical appointments (SMAs) or group consultations, are consultations with your General Practitioner or other health professional in a supportive group atmosphere, where each patients needs are individually met, with the added benefit of hearing others lived experience. We will be u...sing an online platform for these sessions. This style of consultation has had remarkable results worldwide. This has been echoed in our experience as well. Dr Maureen Ryan and Nurse Chris Wilson will start with sessions for Smoking Cessation. If you have access to the internet, and a computer or smart phone, youll be able to attend. If you are keen to quit smoking cigarettes, this session is for you! The session will be fully Bulk-billed so there is no out of pocket expense. Places are limited. 12.01.2022 Christmas 2020 "The Cygnet Branch of Pensioners Association of Tasmania celebrated Christmas with the State Executive Committee members, Jodi Brungs, Denise Mackie, Susan Perry and Lois Bennett. The group is supported by Mr. Tim Tierney and Cygnet Family Practice. The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month (starting back in February 3rd 2021) from 1.30 - 3.00pm at 10 Mary Street, Cygnet. The group provides friendship, bus trips and social activities for all pensioners. If you are looking for new friends in a welcoming environment or have some time to give back to the Community as a volunteer, the Cygnet Branch is needing some help on their management committee. She is available for same day visits to help you access medical care quickly when you need it. Anna also has an arts degree with a major in psychology and has worked in management roles with a human resources focus and is currently working with Ambulance Tasmania as a registered Paramedic. She enjoys working in all regions of beautiful Tasmania to provide both acute and holistic care to those in need.

06.01.2022 TELEPHONE CONSULTATION BILLING From the 1st October, Medicare has stopped paying general practices the Bulk Billing fee for Telephone Consultations. We will continue to provide this service as bulk billing for pensioners or children under 16 years.... If you are normally privately billed or a Health Care Card holder, you will pay the usual gap fee for a telephone consult as you would for a 'face to face' consultation starting from Tuesday 27th October.

In previous years we have been able to purchase private stock as needed, but this year we have only been able to access a small number. 02.01.2022 We are celebrating national Nurse Practitioner week. Nurse Practitioners have been working in Australia for 20 years now. They are experienced Registered Nurses working in specialty areas of nursing. After studying at Masters level, Kerrie, Lyn and hazel prescribe medications, order pathology tests, xrays and ultrasounds, and refer directly to specialists. Kerrie's area of expertise is general practice nursing while specialising in chronic disease management and immunisation. Hazel is an experienced, specialist geriatric mental health Nurse Practitioner, while Lyn has specialised in Womens' Health and general practice nursing.
