14.01.2022 An important and exciting milestone this week with the signing of our first Health Gateway to Industry School project MOU with Bentley Park College in Cairns. The Gateway program aims to develop school students' knowledge and understanding of the varied roles available in the health workforce and improve their access to learning and experiential opportunities in Queensland's growing health sector. Thanks to Bentley's College Principal Bruce Houghton and the school's Industry Liaison Officer Dan Ginnaw, for their enthusiasm and support. Thanks also to our Gateway team, Mary-Anne Quilter and Sam Weling, who have worked tirelessly to get our Gateway program up and running in such a short period of time.

12.01.2022 It was all happening in Cairns this week! We also had a CYO trade display at the 2020 Cairns Youth & Careers Expo hosted by the Business Liaison Association. Our staff member Sam spent the entire day chatting with students about the wide range of courses that can lead to a rewarding career in health.

There was excellent engagement and interest from the students. Thank you to Alison Nelson from the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health for the invitation to participate. 06.01.2022 Our Health Gateway Schools team has been hitting the road over the last couple of weeks, visiting schools, supporting training initiatives and promoting careers in health through the CYO Health Career website. Recent engagement with schools included visits to Kelvin Grove State College, Runcorn State High School and the Deception Bay and Hemmant Flexible Learning Centre’s (FLC) from Edmund Rice Education’s Marlene Moore network. Our Gateway team was invited to the launch of K...elvin Grove State College's Health Simulation Centre, which also witnessed the signing of an MOU between CheckUP and the school, officially engaging KGSC as the first Health Gateway School in Brisbane. Mary-Anne and Sam were also present for the inauguration of Runcorn SHS’ Health Academy, which is a fully functional medical clinic upcycled from a shipping container developed and donated to the school by Canstruct. And finally the team participated at a Mini Careers Expo organised by the Deception Bay FLC, demonstrating the CYO website and providing information on the range of rewarding opportunities available in the health sector. 05.01.2022 Sabrina from CheckUP visited Mabel Park State High School this morning where she caught up with the lovely Kya who will be sharing her story on the Choose Your Own Health Career website. Kya is currently studying a Certificate III in Individual Support and working towards her dream career of becoming a Midwife. Sabrina also had the opportunity to visit the school's health hub where students have access to a state-of-the-art health training facility.
