25.01.2022 The Cyprus Community of NSW has lost an exceptional Life Member and dear friend. Mr Andreas Siamas passed away on Thursday 15th October. He was a kind and beaut...iful person who will be deeply missed and we will always remember him. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we express our deepest condolences to his loving wife Georgoula Siamas, his children and grandchildren. May he rest in peace... May his memory be Eternal! The funeral will be at 11am on Thursday 22 October at St Euphemia Greek Orthodox Church Bankstown, followed by the burial at Rookwood Cemetery. The wake will be held at The Cyprus Community Club. 24.01.2022 In loving memory of Chris Michael who departed this life on Friday 27th of November 2020. The Trisagio will be held on Tuesday 1st of December at 6pm at St Spyridon Church 76 Gardeners Road Kingsford. The church service will be at 12 noon on Wednesday 2nd of December, at St Spyridon Church, 72 Gardeners Rd Kingsford, followed by the burial at the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park at Matraville and following that the wake will be held at the Cyprus Community Club in Stanmore. 23.01.2022 Dear Parents, Students and Friends of the Greek School at the Cyprus Community Club of NSW, This is to notify you of our intention to the temporary closure the ...Cyprus Community of NSW, Greek School. We have seen a series of Government announcements to support attempts to slow community transmission of Coronavirus in Australia. Consequently, concerns have been growing and the pressure is increasing across our school community. Yesterday afternoon, our Management Committee, in collaboration with our parent community and teachers has chosen to temporary close Greek school due to daily requests and concern of parents, informing us teachers of their intentions not to bring their children to the school. Our principal concern continues to be the continued safety and wellbeing of Teachers and Students, Parents and Grandparents at the same time as continuing the important work of the community language school including enabling our students to progress their studies in a safe environment. That is why we are working towards an online learning environment by proposing several platforms that will support and assist our education team to communicate with parents and students. In order to facilitate these changes, we have paused all face-to-face Greek learning and online teaching will be implemented for the next two lessons (Saturday, 21st and 28th of March 2020) with teaching resuming on Saturday 4 April 2020, until further notice. We will provide you with more details soon. The examinations for the CERTIFICATE OF ATTAINMENT IN GREEK 2020 for May 18 for level C2, on May 19 for levels A1, A2, B1 and on May 20 for levels B2, C1 has been postponed. 14.01.2022 Since 2014 the Cyprus Community of NSW Limited has been pursuing the re-zoning of the Community premises located at 58-76 Stanmore Road, Stanmore which includes the carpark, rear block and six (6) houses in Tupper Street. Currently the property is Zoned RE2 Private Recreation with the houses Zoned R2 low density residential. Under this new proposed rezoning the property will be changed to B4 Business, R1 High Density Residential and R3 Medium Density Residential. This will po...tentially unlock the entire site to be redeveloped into a new precinct consisting of residential, commercial use and new a Community centre with parking and related facilities. As the Cyprus Community of NSW Ltd progress through this rezoning process, the next phase is to find a suitable redevelopment partner that will be involved in delivering this new precinct to include a new home for the Cyprus Community of NSW Limited . Stanton Hillier Parker Property Agents have been appointed as the agents that will go to market in order to identity suitable redevelopment partner. This will be conducted via an Expressions of Interest Campaign which will commence on 4th November 2020 and close 10th December 2020. It is imperative that we highlight that this is not a campaign for the sale of any property of the Community, or to change the nature of the property in any form or enter into any debt or other obligation, it is purely an exercise to identify a party to help us realise the potential re- development of the Community‘s property. Any decision to alter the character of the site, or to redevelop the site, or any decision to choose a partner to redevelop the site, indeed any decision as to the future location, nature and home of the Community will be subject to the members’ decision to be taken at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). 10.01.2022 It is with great sorrow to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Mr Peter Chrysanthou. Peter passed away on Saturday 21st November 2020, at the age of 66. Apart from being a member of the Cyprus Community for many years, he was also member of the Board of Directors for the period 2017-2019. Peter, his wife Stavroulla and their three sons were always part of our Community, offering their volunteer work whenever it was needed. It is with great sorrow to announce that we have lost an exceptional and loved member of the Cyprus Community of NSW, Mr Andreas Christofi from Politikos Cyprus, aged 91 years old. Trisagio will be on Wednesday 22nd July at 6.00pm, at Euro Funeral Services Roselands. The funeral service will take place on Thursday 23rd July at 11.00am at St Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, Cnr. Weekes & Carpenter Ave, Rookwood. The burial will follow at Rookwood Cemetery.
