25.01.2022 Setting up to start two new rods 3 wt & 4wt
25.01.2022 First stage planing to get correct shape .
25.01.2022 The following 4 rods are completed and up for sale. We are offering for a limited time a Buy/Try/Return option on our stock rods, if within 7 days of receiving the rod you decide for what ever reason it’s not for you, you can return the rod for a full refund (less shipping cost) can’t get any fairer than that? Further more all Crosdale Split Cane rods have a Life Time Warranty on all workmanship and Parts. The first rod is #10 the Eucumbene a 7’6 5-6 weight, this is a nic...e punchy rod built off a USA rod design by Payne rods, found this rod very at home with a modern a WF5 line, great larger Freestone rod or for open water, equally at home with dry fly and Nymph. #9 is the Big Badja a 7’7 5-6 weight, it’s a slightly slower action rod, a beautiful dry fly rod, perfect for hunting big browns in slower moving meandering creeks, I found the 5 weight Wulff Bamboo Special Line a perfect match for this rod. #14 is the Ebor a 7’6 5 weight, based on a Thomas & Thomas design, Derek has made 3 of them now I can’t hide my enthusiasm for this rod, I have cast all 3 of them and fell in love from the first false cast, this rod absolutely blurs the line between high quality graphite and split cane, true masterpieces. This is the Flamed version leaving the blank with a deep brown finish, the flame treatment also stiffens the blank ever so slightly. I tried both a modern 5WF line and the Wulff Bamboo Special Line over this rod, made no difference, stunning rod in both looks and ability. #12 is the Macquarie a 7’9 5-6 weight, this one is a Custom Design of Derek’s. I found this rod works best with a modern WF6 weight line, again another rod that would be suited to big water or open windy conditions, it’s a fast tapered powerful rod. All of the rods are priced @ $800ea and are available for immediate dispatch. A couple of myths I would like to dispel, firstly that split cane fly rods are heavy and floppy and feel like a Jarvis Walker Black Queen in your hand, completely untrue, the modern Tonkin split cane fly rods are fairly light and crisp, and stiffer than any of the modern glass fly rods that I have felt. Split cane fly are fragile, complete myth, anyone who has an ounce of knowledge on construction will know that if you laminate 6 triangle pieces of substrate together you end up with amazing strength, way stronger than a thin hollow graphite tip. If you require anymore info feel free to drop us a PM, cheers Paul ( on behalf of Derek ) See more
24.01.2022 3 newly completed rods heading up to the Ebor region of NSW for evaluation, 2 x 7'6" 5 weights and a 7'9" 6 weight. Absolutely wrapped in how the "Flamed" finish one turned out.
22.01.2022 My first split cane fly rod. A beautiful 6’ 7 #3-weight Gungarlin, hand-crafted for me by master rod builder, Derek Crosdale of D G Crosdale Split Cane Fly Rod...s. Not only a thing of understated beauty to hold (and behold), but it casts SO much better than I ever expected. Surprisingly, the line speed and overall feel is much closer to graphite than glass, but somehow more alive. Very, very sweet indeed. Can’t wait to christen it on the alpine stream it’s named after when the season re-opens. See more

22.01.2022 Starting final planing
21.01.2022 Final chech of line weights and starting the binding of the guides .. next to come will the reel seats and cork .. Still waiting USA delivery is slow at this time of year ..
21.01.2022 Derek from D G Crosdale Split Cane Fly Rods dropped of a dozen fresh off the bench new rods for me to have a cast with, Derek is getting ready to do some trav...elling so he has left them all with me to sell, and it’s the same deal as in the past, with $800 per rod delivered to your door, if within 2 weeks of receiving the rod you find it’s not for you, return it for a full refund (less postage) can’t lose when ya think about it I’ve been asked by quite a few people why on earth you’d want to seemingly go back into the dark ages and use a cane rod when there is a plethora of beautiful graphite rods on the market, fair point I guess. In 99% of all types of fishing, high Line speed is your friend, carrying lures or larger flies into the target zone, cane on the other hand generates a low line speed, making it perfect for presenting small dry flies softly onto the water. The other added bonus is as you age, in any form of sports, your hand eye coordination will diminish, the slower delivery of the fly into the target zone allows it to be slowed down in your head, creating greater accuracy, ie less lined trout. Their fine tips also load quickly making shorter presentations with a long leader a snack. Rather than go through all the rods here individually, we have 12 rods in total (although the Gungarlin a 6’7 3 weight is already spoken for) Drop me a pm on messenger Paul Kneller and I can let you know what’s available in rod lengths and line weights See more
21.01.2022 Planing is finished now for gluing up .
19.01.2022 When Mark Pirie from Madz Soft plastic lures was over at my place a few weeks back, I showed him some of the Crosdale Split Cane Fly Rods I had here. We took a ...couple out in the yard for Mark to have a cast, when he picked up #13, a 7’6 5w blonde rod built on a Thomas & Thomas design called Ebor and had a cast, I could tell by the instant smile on his face that this rod was destined to go home with him. The next day Mark rang me back to say he couldn’t stop thinking about the rod Sold great news for him, but I must admit I was a bit saddened, I really wanted to keep that rod for myself, it truly is a peach So Mr Crosdale, when you stop caravanning around the Continent, one 7’6 5w please See more
