25.01.2022 Designing the air In one of my keynote, I speak about the reflex that most hardware products manufacturers have: manufacturing in China. And I then share the slide that over one million and a half Chinese die of air pollution alone, every year. Recently, I read an article (link below in the comments) mentioning "Air pollution kills six million people every year". Not a small number!... So, my question is: can we design the air? And my answer is yes. When I mention Design for the Triple Bottom Line, environmental sustainability is a key ingredient. With this in mind, it helps to measure and to choose the best option in terms of environmental impact for each product. So, one product at the time, one decision at the time, we can bend the curve and make sure that everyone in the future will enjoy a clean and better air. And we should, as it seems that bad air quality affects our IQ and performances. Do you think the air you are breathing is any good? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Air #Sustainability #businessmodel #keynote

23.01.2022 The age of enslavement or the age of enlightenment I like listening to Futurists and Im lucky a few of my friends are in this field. This year I have been speaking about the future of work and the future of humanity and I have a different perspective than my Futurist friends. I name my perspective: the age of enslavement or the age of enlightenment.... If I do a search on Google from my computer and you from yours, well have two different results, because Google knows me, so to speak and filters information. I think this makes me more and more stupid, as it narrows my views and understanding of the world. If we go further down this path, this will lead to the age of enslavement. However, Im more interested in the other end of the spectrum: the age of enlightenment. I was listening to Kai-Fu Lee [link below] and Id like to think that technology, AI and robots will help humanity to rise in consciousness. How? By doing all our meaningless and repetitive work. Then, well have more time to investigate our own minds and therefore raise our consciousness, all around the planet. What is your view? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #AI #Robots https://youtu.be/zBSQA2-ihig

23.01.2022 A few months ago, I wrote an article on the 3 stages of creativity. Last week, I attended the Creative Innovation Conference 2019 and one masterclass in particular with Dr Etienne van der Walt. He mentioned the link between creativity, innovation and resilience. In my article, I mentioned the third state which is "Letting go" and this is aligned with Dr Etienne van der Walt's "relax physiological state", the best state to be creative! Science did catch-up with my observations... over the years. And, according to Dr Etienne van der Walt again, here are the top 5 key points to enhance resilience and creativity: Optimism Reducing negative thoughts Generic part technique Bedtime consistency Meaningful contribution at work What would you add from your own observations? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Keynote #innovation #creativity #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign

22.01.2022 Three steps to design a profitable product - Step three I met with an entrepreneur last week; he has an idea for a new product and doesnt quite know how to move forward. I outlined how to design a profitable product in three steps, and Ill now share step #3.... Step three is design with a business model. I my experience, this is the most underused tool. And when companies use it, so often they base their model on costs and building from there. I like to take another angle and built from the value proposition. Did we solve the clients problem? Can we measure this value? Can we add even more value than pure functionality? Often we can, and we re-design accordingly. The Lobster, a paintbrush holder is a great example of product and business model. Do you use business models for your products or services? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Businessmodel #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign

22.01.2022 I don't like the word "failure" I'm sitting in a cosy cafe in Coburg, talking about innovation. It is part of a series of interviews that this person is doing on entrepreneurs and innovators around the world, who are proposing another way of doing things. "Do you think companies should continue to fail fast?"... There are two elements in this question I'm not completely comfortable with. The first one is the term "to fail"; I've never liked that word, or its meaning. The word "failure" feels detrimental to me. It also feels like something static, like a condition that never changes - but just get back up, and failure is no longer! Regarding the meaning: I don't see something not working as being a failure. For me, it is just part of the process. The creative process. The progress process. The innovation process. After over two decades in this field, I'm very comfortable with this grey area, where possible chaos resides and the answer isn't entirely clear yet. I have faith in the process: it's one step after the other and, eventually, the solution will arise. Can we replace "failure" with "experimentation" or learning? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign

21.01.2022 A glimpse into the circular economy I think by now most of you know my intention to design better products for the world, using Design for the Triple Bottom Line as a framework. 21.01.2022 Which idea should I pick? I have been working with a client for a few weeks now. He came to the design studio with an idea, a very nice product he has been working on for years now. Beautiful product indeed. When I work with my clients, we assess as soon as possible the product with its business model; the idea is to understand at an early stage if the combination product + business had legs. Very quickly we discovered that his product, though very nice, would lead to a diffi...cult business. Not impossible, just difficult. Why? The product is labour intensive, the margins are very thin and the market is quite narrow. After further conversations, my client came back with a dozen of sketches of ideas he gathered in the last few years. One really struck me: a small product that really solve an existing issue in the industry and the product can be mass manufactured and can scale, as a business. Since then, we have been assessing the potential of this idea and it seems that it has all the right ingredients: large market, low to medium levels of investments and comfortable margins. Which leads to the question: did you pick the "right" idea when you started working? Often, I see emotional attachment to an idea can blind us to its real potential. Have you ever experienced that attachment yourself? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Creativity #Product #Businessmodel

20.01.2022 Three steps to design a profitable product - Step two I met with an entrepreneur last week; he has an idea for a new product and doesnt quite know how to move forward. I outlined how to design a profitable product in three steps, and today Ill share step #2.... Step two is design for manufacturing. I have first to make a confession: industrial designers can have a bad reputation when it comes to their understanding of manufacturing. I remember when I started this meeting with a CEO who walked me to his warehouse just to show me a mould that was designed by an industrial designer and that never worked. Now that design for functionality works, we need to link it with manufacturing capabilities. This means exploring manufacturing options, materials, production volumes and finding what is the best fit. On another angle, it also means making sure that: It can be manufactured We can redesign to simplify the parts for manufacturing principles We can redesign to lower the initial investment (such as moulds for injection moulding) When this phase is done properly, it can lead to massive saving in initial investment and costs per parts. Always good for the bottom line! 19.01.2022 Innovate during the weekend The weather was beautiful on Saturday morning. The whole family woke up early so I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to do some gardening. I used the wiper-snipper most of the morning, quite an effective toll. when it works. What do I mean? Well, I spent a lot of my time fitting the cord, refilling the head and so on. That takes time, the cord breaks down often and I have to say, it is quite impractical.... So, my thinking goes: there is room for innovation here! Who wants to redesign the wiper-snipper with me? What did you find that could be improved lately? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign #PhilippeGuichard

19.01.2022 Design critic? I was having discussions on how to produce content to share on social media, and a few persons in my network suggested I started criticising products designed by other design studios. I was reflecting on that, and I could not move in this direction. Not that I cant be a critic of some products, but I dont like to idea of taking a stand on someone else work.... Why? I dont know the context, thats why. I dont know what question was asked to the design studio; I dont know the budget allocated to the project; I dont know who made the decisions, and so on. Moreover, it doesnt seem like a good idea to do so in the first place. If anything, I would instead support the work of my colleagues. Would you become a critic in your industry? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Innovation #Speakers #Keynote #Critic #PhilippeGuichard

16.01.2022 Innovation is right before your eyes I was invited to speak last Wednesday at the Inventor Association of Australia. During my presentation, I have shared one of my favorite tools for innovation: the C.O.T.: the Customer Observation Technique. The idea is to apply bare observation to your customers and/or users in their own environment to detect their pain points. In my experience, it is one of the best tools for innovation and I am always surprised that so little compani...es practice it. The second aspect of this tool is to be able to recognize behavioral patterns. This combination has been the source of innovative products for over twenty-five years now. What is your favorite tool in your industry? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign #PhilippeGuichard

Small change = big impact". I will mention one of my favorites topic: Design for the Triple Bottom Line. A bit of a teaser: for the first time, I will share a story I have never shared from the stage before.... I will be surrounded by a cohort of amazing speakers: Henry Wu, Vicki Macdermid, Dheeren Vélu, Evita March, Lana M Johnson, Mark Carter and Bill Holmes. I'm looking forward to that evening, and I'm looking to see you there! https://tedxcasey.com/ Curators: Joanne Law, Robert Pattie-Williams and Paul Kenna #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #TEDx #TEDxCasey #Design #TripleBottomLine #Designwithrespect #story #publicspeaker

10.01.2022 Innovation : it takes everyone How can the government support innovation? How can we shift the innovation culture in large companies? How can we support start-ups in a more effective way? In the last week, I was asked all those questions, via different channels. For me, innovation takes everyone.... No one is solely responsible for innovation, and I tend to think that all of us can do our bit. We can't all be designers, innovators, futurists but at least, we can all be positive supporters. In my mind, the combination of letting people take more risks and actions toward innovation, combined with a positive peer group support (within the company, embedded in the culture and in all levels of government) will shift Australia from being twenty third in the Global Innovation Index to possibly the top five in the next decade or two. It will take everyone. So, start today: it takes everyone at this very moment. Where can you contribute? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign

10.01.2022 The future of Industrial Design I was asked yesterday: "where do you think Industrial Design will be in five or ten years from now?". Our industry is subject to change like any other one. Or maybe even earlier than other businesses, because we are part of the "creative industries."... In the last ten years, there has been a move to digital. Quite a big move, as most of the venture capital is still allocated to digital -they call it tech- these days. But, like a pendulum, the big promises and big financial rewards in digital may not happen as promised and in the next five years, part of this capital will be re-allocated to hardware ventures. I think that the future of Industrial Design will lie in the merge of hardware and digital experiences on the one hand, on the other hand, Industrial Designers will have to broaden their skills to marketing and business to stay relevant. Do you have an idea where your industry is going? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign #PhilippeGuichard

10.01.2022 Nick Jaffes designs Three months ago, I reconnected with my friend Nick. I met him when I started my business over four years ago, and it was time to know what he was up to. During our conversation, I discovered that he had launched a brand of durable carry equipment, all made in Australia. Attention to details, manufacturing and materials are core to the values of the brand. This is their story: Kohutt operates with a simple goal to create robust, minimalist and quality d...riven designs with considered details and Australian-based manufacturing, using the highest quality materials and hardware. Have a look at Kohutt dot com (link in the first comment below), and you will see for yourself and appreciate the congruence. 10.01.2022 Talk on mindfulness and routines Last Saturday, I was invited to share my thoughts and experience around mindfulness and routines. It was part of the Ditox morning organised by Vanessa Tran. I spoke about how meditation can help you control your mind (control in the sense of being spacious, not in a forceful way) and how morning routines can also contribute to master your days.... The first step of meditation is to reach a calm state of mind. Then, one can watch his thoughts and emotions without reacting to it (our natural tendency is to either be attached to the thought or reject it). Regular mindfulness practice is both helpful and effective, part of "successful" people's morning routine. Do you have a morning routine? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Meditation #Mindfulness #Routines #Morningroutines #PhilippeGuichard

08.01.2022 No more secrets I attended a business retreat about three weeks ago and I was advised to speak more freely about one important aspect of my life. Then, as it often happens in life, I was invited to speak about that very same topic on the 15th of December: Im going to talk about mindfulness and meditation in the context of awakening (which differs a bit from the transactional meditation you may have heard about in the last few years). ... I have been practicing mindfulness and meditation for over 25 years. I also have a few years of retreat behind me and I have had the good fortune to study with over thirty different meditation masters from various traditions. So far, I thought I should keep that aspect of my life a secret, because it felt so personal. But as it shapes my motivation, the way I see my work and the vision I have for the future, I may as well share this with the world. 08.01.2022 Three steps to design a profitable product - Step one I met with an entrepreneur last week; he has an idea for a new product and doesnt quite know how to move forward. I outlined how to design a profitable product in three steps, something Id like to share with you today.... The first is design for functionality. What does it mean? Well, we design a new product because we have found a new way to solve the problem. Often by doing so, we create other friction points in the users experience. So the whole point of this phase is to iterate and re-design so that we find the best possible way to solve the initial problem and minimise the unintended consequences in doing so. Sometimes, we even manage to provide great value and ease of use and completely eradicate the unintended consequences. Have you noticed sometimes that a new product would create a new problem too? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Triplebottomline #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign #PhilippeGuichard

08.01.2022 BILL FERRIS, AC talk at Francis Gurry Lecture Series I was listening again to the talk by Bill Ferris at the Francis Gurry Lecture Series that he delivered a few weeks ago. I wanted to highlight a few points that I also deeply believe in.... Innovation drives productivity, productivity drives GPD growth and GDP growth drives living standards. We need to encourage creativity and innovation. In one of my keynote, I present the ranking of Australia on the Global Innovation Index. And as suggested by Bill Ferris, Australia has mixed results there. Australians are not innovating anyway near the levels we need to fulfill the ambitions in the global knowledge economy. I could not agree more. This is one of the reasons I came back to teaching after over ten years of break. And working with start-ups. To enable successes like the flow-hive, the most successful crowdfunding project in Australia so far. Like Bill Ferris, I believe that Australia can fill the gaps in innovation, R&D investments and become a leader in the international field. Where do you think Australia will be in the next ten years? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #innovation #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign #BillFerris

07.01.2022 Follow the process On rare occasions, I see clients deciding to skip a step in the design process. They think this step isnt necessary for them and its all going to work out anyway. I have a step-by-step process in my work, a framework, like most of you do. Its there to ensure that well get a good product at the end and limit the risks and surprises along the way. I work in innovation, so risks and surprises are part of the job, but there is a way to limit this to the ver...y minimum. Last week, one of my clients was surprised and disappointed that his product didnt work as expected. I listened carefully and reminded him that they have missed a couple of important steps in the process, thinking that they would save time and money. Now, they realise that its not the case and getting things right is costing them possibly more time and more money. Do you have similar rare experiences in your work? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Innovation #Speakers #Keynote #Process #Framework

06.01.2022 Fail fast Part two I wrote a few words lately regarding my perception of the word fail. And in the expression fail fast, I also have concerns about the fast part. I have been creating products for over twenty-five years and I see that some ideas need time to mature. At first, they look like a good idea and then when execution starts, the results arent quite there. Should we throw away the original design?... In our current fast culture, it may. Im always conscious of the difference between the initial idea, the concept and the execution. Often, I observe that the implementation can be improved. So my question is: are we discarding good ideas because we havent taken the time to polish the execution? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #failfast #Keynote #Keynotespeaker #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign #PhilippeGuichard

05.01.2022 Additive manufacturing - 3D printing I was teaching recently and sharing at some stage my thoughts around additive manufacturing, aka 3D printing, a term that you have probably heard of in the last few years. This technology has been around for decades and the novelty is that we can afford desktop 3D printers today. In my opinion, the barrier to entry isnt the price point of the printer, but the software before that. Today, we need a 3D software to create a model, or we can ...pick something we like in a bank of 3D models online. Soon, well be able to create with VR or AR technologies. What I get excited about is what this technology will deliver. There is a TED talk by Joseph DeSimone called What if 3D printing was 100 times faster. I think this is the wrong title, it should be What if 3D printing was 1000 times faster, or even 10000 times faster. I suspect well get there in less than twenty years, which means that the way we think of manufacturing and logistics will dramatically change. Which technology is shaping the future of your industry? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Innovation #Sustainability #Speakers #Keynote #3Dprinting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTP-WBrAnPY https://www.ted.com//joe_desimone_what_if_3d_printing_was_

05.01.2022 Two marathons There is a common mistake I see over and over in product development. I call that the two marathons. The first marathon is creating the product: from the idea to the first batch of manufacturing, or to the product launch. The second marathon starts at the product launch, its about turning the product into a business: marketing, sales, and business development. This may come to a surprise to many, but the second marathon is often completely ignored by start-ups ...and small companies. Or also under-estimated. What I share now with prospects I meet is that the first marathon is easy. Its a matter of dedication, applying resources (financial, time) and so on. The second marathon is harder: its about developing a business from scratch (in the case of start-ups) and growing it in a sustainable way. Have you noticed such a trend? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #business #marketing #sales #startups #ProductDesign #Product #PhilippeGuichard

05.01.2022 Brand experience I wanted to elaborate on my previous post Is good design invisible?, where I mentioned the idea of brand experience. I would like to share a good story and highlight how it impacted my perception of a brand. Three months ago, I purchased a second-hand trampoline. I was looking for this new type of trampoline with no direct springs, as they are rated to be safer than the classic ones. I found a good one at a decent price and I closed the deal. I was then sup...posed to dismantle it and rebuild it in my own backyard. Nothing too complicated! As I was dismantling the trampoline, I noticed that one spring/blade was missing. As they give the spring effect to the trampoline and hold the mat, I thought this was rather annoying. The previous owner called the brand and explained the situation. The brand then delivered the missing spring/blade for free, by courier! I thought: this is clever! What do you think my perception of the brand is today? Which brand do I advise, when friends and other parents from school ask for recommendations? Want to know the brand? I bet you do: Vuly. Joe Andon must be pleased. Which brand delighted you recently? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Innovation #Speakers #Experience #Brand #PhilippeGuichard

04.01.2022 Sharing my entrepreneurial journey next Thursday For many years, I tended to think of myself as a designer. I thought of myself as someone from the creative industry. Last year, I took the Gallup Strength Finder assessment and discovered that I was first and foremost an entrepreneur. At first, I was a bit surprised at the results, but then it made sense to me quite quickly. After all, I started my first business venture when I was twenty-two years old. I also created a food ...business just after arriving in Australia. I will be talking about this journey next Thursday, as I was invited to be part of a panel discussion at French Entrepreneurs in Melbourne, an evening organised by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Study Destination. Ill be sharing the stage with Julie Bierry and Delphine Genin, two remarkable entrepreneurs based here in Melbourne. Im looking forward to learning from them. What have you discovered about yourself? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Innovation #Speakers #Entrepreneurship #Business https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/vic-french-entrepreneurs-in https://www.linkedin.com/in/julie-bierry-77020a164/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/delphinegenin/ https://www.gallupstrengthscenter.com/

04.01.2022 Why we need to redefine the GDP in order to design a better world What really matters in life is your own wellbeing, which translated to everyones wellbeing. The definition of GDP is a monetary measure of the market value of all the final goods and services produced in a period of time, often annually or quarterly. This leads to an economy that is out of control, which has the purpose just to serve itself. People have been removed from this equation. We live in new times a...nd its the right moment in history to redefine what growth means, and why it is necessary. Humanity and its fundamental wellbeing have to be at the source of the definition of growth. I was watching a short video on the Gross National Happiness, a concept that was initiated by the previous king of Bhutan (link below). In my opinion, this is a much more compelling offer. So, what does all this have to do with Industrial Design? If the intention is to design products just for the benefit of the economy, then we will continue on the same path, which will lead to some type of catastrophe. Or, we redefine the goals, the GDP, and design for wellbeing, and we all aim for a brighter future. Which path will you pick? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Innovation #Speakers #PhilippeGuichard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8MYtCzBiDA

04.01.2022 Is good design invisible? I was attending a funeral this Monday, and there were speeches about the deceased. Obviously it was man of principles, and he never spoke in bad terms of anyone. With one exception: a particular brand. Why?... Because he had numerous bad experiences with them, and they never did much to address any issues. That got me thinking. How can someone with a good heart become so upset with a brand that he changes his core principles? The design experience was the answer. This particular brand has a policy not to take care of clients issues, expecting them to drop the ball eventually. I find it intriguing that one remembers the brand, because of the friction points they have with them. I also wonder if we remember other brands as well, when the customer experience is frictionless? Often, good design becomes invisible: it just goes along with your activity and your flow, and you forget about it, because it works. However, usually we dont forget the experience and how it made us feel. When was the last time you had such a positive brand experience? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Innovation #Speakers #Experience #Brand

03.01.2022 The future of housing I noticed this post from Stas Korulin just a few days ago and I thought both the idea and execution were great: tacking the housing affordability and comfort in one go. Im a big fan of the Passive House concept; I have been traveling the world to see/feel how those houses behave. Up to a point that today I dont understand why this concept is not compulsory!... So Im happy to share with you this idea: ADVANCE has designed this beautiful, comfortable and cost effective home. This home consists of 12x2.5 meter modules that are prefabricated at the factory and delivered on site ready to move in. Number of modules and interior design will depend on the preference on the homeowner. 02.01.2022 A common mistake I met with an entrepreneur yesterday. A couple of years ago, he had an idea of a hardware product, started developing it, investing time and resources for months. Then he presented his idea and realised they were no traction. So he asked me for feedback.... I see this pattern very often with entrepreneurs and inventors: built it and they will come. Often, its not that the idea is bad, it the lack of connection with the market. The market fit. Here are a few points that were included in my feedback. First, this is a very common mistake, few entrepreneurs really check the market fit early in the process. Second, the lack of sales doesnt mean that the idea isnt relevant; it could be not the right execution. Third, when developing the idea, you need to start checking with the market as early as possible, is the problem you are trying to solve really exists? Fourth, it could be a business model problem. Maybe the idea and execution are good, but the price positioning isnt accurate. Too often I see businesses case built on manufacturing costs and not the value proposition. What is the most common mistake you see in your field? #D2design #DesignWithRespect #IndustrialDesign #Design #ProductDesign #Keynote #MelbourneDesign #AustralianDesign

02.01.2022 $ In search for profits $ There is something that nearly all of us want: more profits. In my industry, its a significant concern for most of my clients.... Moreover, from my experience and what I have observed, very often the focus on profit is on cost reduction. So Im not saying its a bad idea, but there is only so much you can do. What I like to do instead is to focus on the value proposition. I love to design new products based on this value proposition and a business model. This angle is entirely different, and its about adding some tangible value for the client and/or user something they need and that will make their life easier- and also some intangible value, working with brand values. One of the tools I have been using for increasing the tangible value is the COT: the Customer Observation Technique (Thanks Louise Karch for helping me with the name). Its straightforward: bare observation on the users activity. 01.01.2022 Should I patent my idea? Last night, I was invited to speak at AcademyXI on Design Leadership. I shared the stage with Melis Senova, Remya Ramesh, Michael Leigh and Nilma Perera. I learned a fair bit from all of them. When questions were opened to the public, I had this one coming to me: should I patent my idea?... I would like to share some thoughts about this topic, as this is a question I get very often. First, there is no straight answer, It depends is what I would say all the time. A few factors you may want to consider: The level of innovation and inventiveness The financial risks and rewards The competition The life span on your product on the shelves The possible use of your patent as a marketing tool The valuation of your company There are products that have a very short life on the shelves, and sometimes being first to market is the most important. Other products need to be protected by a patent, to prevent competition to copy bluntly. Last but not least, patents contribute to the valuation of your company, so this is an angle that is often forgotten by start-ups and other entrepreneurs. It can make a big difference after a few years in business. And my last word would be: talk to your patent attorney!
