25.01.2022 For 11 years, the Dragons Abreast Corporate and Community Regatta, known as the DAA Festival, has been DAA’s annual major fundraiser and awareness event, and has created many fabulous memories and experiences both for our members and corporate and community crews. While the festival’s popularity cannot be disputed, the resources, expenses and logistics of staging the event annually are growing substantially, with less and less guarantee of a profit, in these days of fundraisi...ng competition and fatigue. The world, technology, fundraising avenues and charity operations have changed enormously over the last decade, while the festival has stayed relatively the same from year to year. In the interests of presenting a bigger, better and even more successful festival, we have decided to postpone the 2019 Festival, planned for October 19, to give us some time to refocus our energy, resources and time on developing new concepts, potential new locations and streamlined fundraising channels for an awesome 2020 Festival. We will be actioning some suggestions from the previous festival surveys, as well as creating our own innovations to really drive the festival into its second decade of being an iconic event for DAA and positioning DAA as Australia’s premier organisation focused on paddling for breast cancer recovery.

22.01.2022 Please send all your strength, support and hope for our amazing Festival photographer Tom who was in a serious mountain bike accident on 10th January which resulted in devastating neck and spinal injuries and sadly Tom has no feeling from the neck down and is likely to be in hospital for the rest of this year. Tom volunteered his valuable time and expertise for five of our Festivals driving up from Canberra each year and happily snapping away and providing DAA, and all its participants, with beautiful images. Tom Bungbrakearti, on behalf of Dragons Abreast Australia, we all wish you well in your recovery and send you much hope and strength to you and your beautiful daughters.

21.01.2022 The lion dance has been part of Chinese culture for thousands of years and is performed on auspicious occasions such as weddings, store openings, and various fe...stivals and celebrations. The lion, a symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune, chases away evil spirits and brings happiness, longevity, and good luck. Thank you to the Pak Hok Kung Fu International Lion Dancers for bringing their special energy to the Dragons Abreast Festival! and thanks to Karen Downie for the video! #dragonsabreast #festival #liondancers #paddlingforrecovery #darlingharbour #twenty #breastcancer https://youtu.be/i7oxwKA8KUw
