25.01.2022 Back at Williamstown Craft Market today. And on the third Sunday of every month. Take a trip to Willy on March 18th for our next one. Featuring Hosier Lane images today! What’s next?

24.01.2022 I'm home now ... back to the cold, grey and damp Melbourne that I know and love. Well maybe not loving this weather. Clothes, that you go through at a rapid rate in the heat and humidity of Vietnam, all washed and hung out to dry ... but are now hung inside on clothes racks because of the rain. It was sunny when we landed; that's Melbourne for you. [ 534 more words ] http://vietnamforeground.home.blog//18/vietnam-impressions/

24.01.2022 Tomorrow morning at 9:05am I fly out of Da Nang for Hanoi, capital of the unified Vietnam. Hanoi has always been very high on my bucket list of places to visit, so I'm very excited! Leaving a small but very busy Hoi An, it'll be back to big city. The perils of crossing roads, dodging motorbikes, and finding my way around. 24.01.2022 Now on my way to Hoi an. Sitting at the Tan Son Nat domestic airport terminal waiting for my Jetstar Pacific flight to Da Nang. I've installed Wordpress on my computer and I'm sitting here writing this while having a Vietnamese coffee (hot with condensed milk) and looking like a right techo wanker. I'm trying things today - I want to be able to post a gallery of images And maybe some video - so you dear readers are my guinea pigs. 22.01.2022 Reminder ... we’ll be at Williamstown markets somewhere in the foreshore park near the pier this Sunday from 10am to 4pm. That’s 15 October. Come along, say gday, have a coffee nearby, check out our photographs, provide moral support. We’d love to see you!!

22.01.2022 Bringing da bronx gallery into 2020!!

22.01.2022 Hoi An. Yin and Yang. Fire and water. Light and dark. Shady side and sunny side ... ... tourists and locals. I am a Libran so I should be allowed to change my view, ok? And I want to get in quick! This morning after a visit to "my" tailor, I'm cycling along the Thu Bon river having passed through local markets, past local cafes and shops. 21.01.2022 The last excursion of my holiday, yesterday, was to the Ha Long Bay area east of Hanoi, about 2 hours drive away in a limousine people mover. It was to be my one day of luxury touring before I headed home. And it was ... totally wonderful!! I was picked up at the hotel after receiving copious messages on WhatsApp the previous day confirming the booking and reminding me to be ready on time. 20.01.2022 There's really nothing like having a tour with a local to get an idea of a city. Navie, my 23 year old guide was wonderful. From 7:30am, for 4 hours I sat on the back of her scooter as she took me around the areas of Saigon that are normally not part of the tourist trail. We did visit a couple of touristy places but I think even those were not on the hop-on hop-off route. [ 364 more words ] http://vietnamforeground.home.blog//11-million-people-8-m/

20.01.2022 Here we go! Here we go!

19.01.2022 Here's a link to an article about an updated cut and re-release of Apocalypse Now, 40 years after its first release. Of course this happens while I'm in Vietnam for the first time! A must see movie viewing when I get home. Hopefully on at the Astor or a big screen somewhere. http://vietnamforeground.home.blog//apocalypse-here-and-n/

19.01.2022 Part two of my last day in Saigon. I left the War Remnants Museum and decided to have a Vietnamese coffee at the nearby Propaganda café. Spookily appropriate name don’t you think? By the time I wandered over to the Independence Palace it had closed for lunch, re-opening in 75 mins time. Bugger. And then the heavens opened. Double bugger. No umbrella. 17.01.2022 A couple of videos from my bike road around Hoi An this morning ... PS. Actually only one, sorry. The other won't upload over the hotel network. I'll try again later. http://vietnamforeground.home.blog//a-short-bike-tour-of-/

17.01.2022 We are working on new images for a exhibition in 2021. Stay tuned!!

17.01.2022 Tuesday 12 August. Crack of dawn ... My second day in Hanoi and I have an early start! Being met at the hotel at 5:20 am and then going on a 3 hour bike tour/ride around the city. When I make it outside the hotel it is still dark and still really warm. Like 29 degrees! I hope I cope ok. [ 953 more words ] http://vietnamforeground.home.blog/2019/08/13/on-yer-bike/

16.01.2022 After 2 days in Hoi An, it's time for a review of my last day in Saigon. By the way, I'm going to stick with Saigon and not Ho Chi Minh City or HCMC. It's what the locals call it and I'm happy to go with that. I spent the last day visiting the War Remnants Museum and the Independence Palace, in between dodging the rain and having some local coffees. 16.01.2022 A collage of Samos moments. Love this place. By Richard Gibbon. 2013-2016 See it at Koutouki Cafe in Burnley, Melbourne.

15.01.2022 Wandering the streets of HCMC. It's funny when you discover somewhere and you go "WTF. Why did it take so long to get here?" It's a relatively quiet Sunday. A few tourists around but not as many as I expected. Is it the wrong season? Have been out since 9am and now just after 1. Mainly a bit of aimless wandering with a few Google Map places picked out along the way including the Post Office and Opera House. 14.01.2022 I've been in Hoi An for 2 nights now and I feel conflicted a bit on my first impressions. It's a beautiful town at its heart but like all really popular tourist destinations, Hoi An is suffering from its own success. It makes me think of Santorini, Venice or Barcelona in a way, although a very long way short of the mass-tourism-fuelled craziness they suffer from. 08.01.2022 Apologies that this might be a short post and yet it could be so loooong! Cause that's the kind of day it was. But long in a great way, and I'm certainly not complaining. Quite the opposite. It was a fantastic day. The Tam Coc area is near Ninh Binh, about 2 hours south of Hanoi. It's an area of limestone karsts, rivers and farmland, and is sometimes known as the Halong Bay on land. [ 772 more words ] http://vietnamforeground.home.blog//now-that-was-a-day-out/

08.01.2022 Images from NYC = from 1994 through to recent times

07.01.2022 Parthenon in Athens. By Michael Nader Dewhirst. May 2017 See it at Koutouki Cafe in Burnley, Melbourne.

07.01.2022 Come see da bronx gallery at the Williamstown Market on Sunday, October 15. Drop by and say hi to Michael and Richard. Check out our recent photos ... all items will be for sale. We’ll be in the park near the jetty, under the trees. More details to follow. Just keep your fingers crossed for a fine sunny day.

05.01.2022 One thing I really wanted to do ... I found the building made famous as the scene of the last chopper to evacuate Americans from Saigon on 30 April 1975. Not really recognisable and not signposted by the Vietnamese. A web article I found and a couple of images from today. At 22 Ly Tu Trong Street. http://vietnamforeground.home.blog//the-last-american-cho/

04.01.2022 As the the routine Hanoi evening thunderstorm rolls in and lightning flashes light up my hotel room I'll get my blog up to date in preparation for a day at Ha Long bay tomorrow and then the trip home on Saturday (boo hiss). To really experience a city I reckon you have to get up early and watch it wake up. [ 724 more words ] http://vietnamforeground.home.blog/2019/08/16/walking-hanoi/

03.01.2022 After my bike ride this morning, a recovery lie down back at the hotel and then a coffee at a French cafe called Vivienne's next to St Joseph's Cathedral, I paid a visit to Hoa Lo Prison. It's better known as the Hanoi Hilton. It's history goes way back before it ended up being an infamous prison for US airmen and soldiers during the American War. 02.01.2022 Williamstown market ... open for business with our first customer. It’s a beautiful day!!

01.01.2022 Yep, that's right! 45 taste sensations in one 4 hour foodie tour of Hoi An. My stomach didn't know whether to be grateful for the rampant variety and roller-coaster of sensations, or to go "enough is enough"! It was a tour called "The Original Taste of Hoi An", aimed at giving you the "Readers Digest Condensed Books"-type food experience in one morning.
