25.01.2022 FOR ADOPTION: Sophie - 7 years old - Adelaide SA Sophie is a gorgeous 7 year old 5kg mini. Sadly she didn’t have the best start in her life; used for breeding, being de barked and having 2 litters by the time she was two. Her current owner adopted her and Sophie spent the next 5 years happy with her new younger sister Layla. Unfortunately the girls have started to fight since Layla has come into adulthood and they have not been kind to each other and so Sophie is now look...ing for her new forever home. Sophie comes with a background of medical issues. She has suffered from dermatitis and allergies which are being controlled with diet and cytopoint injections every 8-12 weeks. These cost approx. $125 for two doses. Sophie also recently suffered from an IVDD episode but has recovered well after crate rest without the need for surgery. Sophie would be an ideal companion to someone who is home for the majority of the day and who likes to go for leisurely walks. Sophie would not cope with young, active children and she would prefer to be the one and only pet in the home so she can enjoy being the centre of attention. Sophie is up to date with vaccinations, de sexed. Microchip 982000356798566 Adoption fee: $450. For further information please submit an adoption form found on our website and contact [email protected] - - - *PLEASE READ* We really appreciate your passion and love for dachshunds and all your shares and tags but please ask yourself if your comments are going to help or benefit before posting. Please remember that owners do not take the brave decision to rehome their dachshunds lightly, or necessarily have a choice to do so. Posting abusive comments only serves to harm other dachshunds as owners will be too afraid to surrender their dogs to us if they require rehoming. This will potentially result in a life of misery, dachshunds going to the pound, inappropriate homes or worse. Thanks for your support and understanding.

21.01.2022 FOR ADOPTION Hercules 5.4 years Illiwarra, NSW... Please read the text before applying / commenting Please tag / share with anyone who may be interested in providing a safe and loving forever home Hercules has a big personality radiating from a miniature dachshund body. He likes to beboss man’ and takes his duties a little too seriously. As protector of the property and of the family, Hercules will bark loudly to deter passers by, perceived intruders and even guests. If people continue to approach him while ignoring warnings, Hercules may nip. He has done this twice. However once visitors have been given the seal of approval, Hercules will very quickly want to be their new best friend. This young boy has a heart full of love for his special human. Hercules seeks cuddles and enjoys a morning snuggle in the bed. He is a smart boy who knows several tricks, including a ‘sausage’ roll. Hercules loves his toys, swimming in a dam or river and sadly, hunting lizards. An active person or couple who enjoy walks and outside adventures would suit him perfectly. If you are looking for a loyal, loving companion, can commit to further training, and are home most of the day, Hercules might be just be the dachshund for you. Please note that Hercules is only suitable for a quiet household with mature adults and no other dogs or pets. If you are interested in Hercules and able to travel to the Illiwarra, please complete an application form available on our website. Please email [email protected] with any questions. 15.01.2022 Where do puppies come from? Puppy Farm Raid We would like you to take a moment to think about where that puppy you want to get right now actually comes from. It’s very possible that the cute little puppy has come from a very profitable business otherwise known as a puppy farm; a place where their profits do not go into the health of the dogs that are being bred.... DRA were recently given some dachshunds from such an establishment for rehoming. These dachshunds were the parents that had been left behind after their puppies had been sold time and time again. Most of them were young dachshunds being only 3 or 4 years old. All were suffering from diabolical dental disease resulting in multiple extractions. The most basic right of eating food would have been an extremely painful experience and those with dental disease would have suffered immensely to get their daily food. The dachshunds that we have been caring for have all had an aversion to open spaces, gardens and walking. They were malnourished and frightened. We would like to thank all our ‘failed fosters’ who have now adopted these dachshunds. The patience needed to help them overcome their behavioural issues, the nurturing provided to help comfort them whilst they recover from painful extractions and ongoing operations. Their lives have been transformed and they are now living as all dachshunds should. In warm, comfortable and loving homes. We urge anyone thinking about purchasing a puppy to research the breed and if you absolutely cannot wait for suitable dog that requires rehoming, to only purchase from reputable breeders. The only reason that these farms exist is because of the demand for puppies. Without this they would simply close. Please think carefully about where you get your puppy from. - - - The above post was from 2017 but this trade is still going and now is the best opportunity we have to stop this! This is a very important event which we hope anyone who cares about dachshunds / dogs in Sydney will attend. Please tag / share with anyone who has any kind of affection for animals and together, let’s end this abhorrent cruelty. Thank you!

10.01.2022 *** Applications Closed Kaiser Mini Smooth 19 Months Mango Hill, Qld Desexed, Microchipped, Vaccinated 5.7 kg... Kaiser is an anxious dachshund that requires a quiet home with constant company. His family currently have major building works going on that are making Kaisers life miserable. He really doesn’t enjoy busy places with lots going on. Kaiser has been to puppy school and training and likes to please. He is a very lovable boy who likes nothing more than snuggling for tummy rubs but has the typical dachshund traits where he barks when left alone and will chew due to being anxious. This dear boy would ideally like to live with another dachshund to show him the ropes and where his family are retired or work from home so he is not left alone. If you meet the criteria above and are interested in providing Kaiser with a forever home, please complete the application form on our website or if you have any questions, please email: [email protected] *Please note* We will not be flying any dogs during COVID-19 restrictions due to delays and uncertainties surrounding flights* Adoption fee: $600 Microchip Number: 991001003102037 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- *PLEASE READ* We really appreciate your passion and love for dachshunds and all your shares and tags but please ask yourself if your comments are going to help or benefit before posting. 06.01.2022 FOR ADOPTION Harley 6 years Illiwarra, NSW... Please read the text before applying / commenting Please tag / share with anyone who may be interested in providing a safe and loving forever home Harley may not be pure bred but this does not detract from his charming personality and good looks. He is a placid, loving boy and although does not like being picked up, is always keen for a snuggle on a comfortable lap. Harley is an intelligent lad. Apart from knowing several tricks such as shaking hands, he will tap you politely when it’s dinnertime. His good manners need further development, especially on the lead. Egged on by his brother he has learned to lunge and bark at other dogs as they stroll by. However as Harley is eager to please, he will learn good doggy manners with rewards based training. Overall Harley is best described as a shy but affectionate boy who likes an interesting and active lifestyle. He would love a home where someone there most of the time and good sized yard for exploration and play. If you feel you are able to provide this as well as ‘ideal dog’ training, regular walks and an abundance of love, please complete an online application form on our website. Please email [email protected] with any questions. Please note that Harley will only suit a quiet household with mature adults and no cats, birds or reptiles. He may be companionable with a small female dog. 05.01.2022 Rehomed Success Story: Sally (QLD) At 11 years old, Sally the black and tan found herself homeless. Fortunately for all concerned, a family found out that Sally was off to the pound and contacted DRA offering to help until we could sort out a home for her. We are so grateful to the incredibly caring people that look out for dachshunds in need ensuring that life can continue for the oldies.... We then contacted a family who have had a previous rescue from us, Hilde, who recently passed away leaving their current dachshund Pippa behind. Pippa was sorely missing her mate so she and Mum and Dad did a 5 hour car trip to go and meet Sally and off she went home with them! Pippa is such a sweet girl she leaves an impression on everyone she meets and it’s a match made in heaven as Sally now has a loving secure home and Pippa has a new friend to get into mischief with. As for the pair of them, the girls have got their owners well trained and they have a cart to hop into if their little legs get tired on long walks.
