25.01.2022 "Fathers Day in 2020 has been like no other. Never before have families been so aware of the importance of relationships. Never before have fathers appreciated their children as much as over the past seven months." #FathersDay2020 #BestDaddy

25.01.2022 "The idea that Dad might not have kept us with him led me slowly to feel relieved, then delighted, then thankful, that he had. How unattractive the alternatives might have been. And how powerful, once seen, is the knowledge of genuine commitment and love in smothering out the petty grievances and the misunderstandings!"

25.01.2022 "I would argue strongly that there are several health treatment protocols that are reducing the death rate from coronavirus quite markedly and that these are worthy of your investigation. In all cases, you should seek advice from your doctor, but all are worthy of further examination."

24.01.2022 "To turn the tide of fatherlessness, we must also turn the tide of divorce. The best thing a father can do for his children is to love his wife. That is why I am so passionate for you to have a great marriage, and that is why we support Marriage Week, 13-19 September 2020."

24.01.2022 It was around bedtime, and I was arguing with my 10yo daughter in the hallway because she wanted to ask her mother a question. Mel was locked in our bedroom hav...ing some much deserved alone time. Once a week she gets three hours to herself. I also take three hours once a week, and this arrangement has been wonderful for our marriage. But I must admit, it seems like my three hours dont require nearly as much top cover as Mels three hours. For whatever reason, getting my children to leave their mother alone is an incredibly heavy lift, and while my 10yo would not tell me what question she absolutely had to ask her mother, I had no doubt that it could wait until morning. Naturally, Norah acted like my refusal was flat out me being mean. She stomped her feet, and curled her lips, and tried to push me out of the way. I knew for a fact that if I opened that bedroom door it would release a flood of mom, mom, chants from all three kids, and Mels evening alone would be ruined, and frankly that sucks for her, particularly now, when we literally have the children around us 24/7. So after much fighting, Norah stomped her foot and said, Why cant I talk to MY mother? I crouched down to look her in the eyes and told her that yes, she is your mother. But she is MY wife. I know you think Im being mean right now, but Im not. Im being protective because I love your mother. Mom does a lot for us, and she deserves a break. Someday you might get married, and I hope you find someone who is willing to fight for you to take a break, because its the most important gift you can give someone you love. She didnt like my answer. And she still refused to ask me her question. But she did stop arguing, and she did go to bed. And I could tell that what I said got her to thinking different about breaks and love and marriage, which I hope will lead to her better understanding why mom time is off limits. And since I am sure you are curious to know, the next morning at breakfast, I told Norah that it was okay to ask her very important question now. No surprise, shed forgotten it. But for the first time she asked Mel what she did on her alone time, and I think that means shes starting to understand its value.

23.01.2022 Becoming a father is often a life-changing experience. Prince William said that becoming a father was one of the most amazing moments of life. Having children... is the biggest life-changing moment, it really is. Freelance writer Rob Jenkins says that fathers can change the world, one child at a time. He says to dads: Resolve to improve the world one child at a time starting with your own. Dr David Popenoe, Professor of Sociology at Rutgers University, says: Fathers are far more than just second adults in the home. Involved fathers especially biological fathers bring positive benefits to their children that no other person is as likely to bring. They provide protection and economic support and male role models. They have a parenting style that is significantly different from that of a mother and that difference is important in healthy child development. That is because men and women are different. Both are equally important to children, but they parent a little differently. The Christian ministry Focus on the Family has this to say: Dads love their children more dangerously. Thats because they play rougher and are more likely to encourage risk-taking. They provide kids with a broader diversity of social experiences. They also introduce them to a wider variety of methods of dealing with life. They tend to stress rules, justice, fairness, and duty in discipline. In this way, they teach children the objectivity and consequences of right and wrong. They give kids insight into the world of men. They prepare them for the challenges of life and demonstrate by example the meaning of respect between the sexes. Focus on the Family quotes parenting expert Dr Kyle Pruett who points out that while mothers and fathers are both physical with their children, fathers are typically physical in different ways. Fathers tend to play with their children, and mothers tend to care for them. Generally speaking, fathers tickle more, they wrestle, and they throw their children in the air (while mothers warn, Not so high!). Fathers are louder at play, while mothers are quieter. Mothers cuddle babies, and fathers bounce them. Fathers roughhouse, while mothers are gentle. Fathers encourage competition; mothers encourage equality. Fathers encourage independence while mothers encourage security. Fathering expert John Snarey notes that children who roughhouse with their fathers learn that biting, kicking and other forms of physical violence are not acceptable. They learn self-control by being told when enough is enough and when to settle down. Fathers help girls and boys learn a healthy balance between timidity and aggression. Children need mums softness, as well as dads roughhousing. Both provide security and confidence in their own ways by communicating love and physical intimacy. On Fathers Day this coming Sunday we celebrate the special place of fathers in our families and our society. I pray that the Lord will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, as in Malachi 4:6. Peter Downie National Director - FamilyVoice Australia

15.01.2022 "A study published in the Innovations in Clinical Neuroscience journal show that men undergo hormonal changes when their partners are expectant and even several months after the baby is born. These studies link the decreased testosterone levels and increased oestrogen during this period as responsible for making the father more sympathetic. It is natures way of forming a strong father-child bond. Increasing levels of vasopressin and prolactin are also associated with increased fathers attachment to the baby. This hormonal fluctuation in men unfortunately predisposes them to depression."

15.01.2022 "Our children need us as parents to provide boundaries, within which they can operate freely, within reason. There are some lines that cannot be crossed, and we as Dads need to find that line. We then need to make a joint decision with our wives on matters of discipline, and then hold that line no matter what."

14.01.2022 "... every man needs to be loved by his family. That was a profound observation about the needs fathers have. Mothers have similar needs, but for some reason it is presumed that dads dont really have such needs we are superheroes in need of nothing. But the reverse is actually the case."

13.01.2022 My 5yo told me that she ruined everything. Ill be honest, I felt that one in my gut. Id just put her to bed early and without dessert for fighting with her si...ster, screaming, and a number of other broken house rules. I was standing outside her room, trying to be stern. But then she made that comment, and it seemed so advanced for her age, and I couldnt help but go back in her room and hold her. I told her that she didnt ruin everything, and that she just had a bad day, and well try again tomorrow. I told her I still loved her. I know as parents we are supposed to lay down the law. Perhaps Im a sucker. Perhaps I got played. But in that moment, I couldnt imagine leaving my little girl alone with what she was feeling. She cried into my chest. I held her, and she held me. And by the time she was calm again, she asked me one more time to get out of bed, and I told her no. Then she asked for just a little dessert, and I told her no again. As parents we are supposed to teach our children consequences. But that doesnt mean we cant comfort them as they work through those consequences. Eventually she stuck out her lip, accepted that I wasnt going to change my mind. Then I tucked her in and as I kissed her forehead, she said, I love you, daddy. I love you too, kiddo. 09.01.2022 Mom and him are obsessed with each other. They met when they were eighteen. And they’re always hugging, and kissing, and dancing in the kitchen. So we grew up ...around a lot of love. But Dad has always been more of the ‘Acts of Service’ type. Every night at 8pm, he’d come to all our bedrooms to collect dishes that needed to be washed. And he always took the morning shift. It was his job to wake us up, and make us breakfast, and pack our lunches for school. He’d use a little brown paper bag, and draw a heart on the front with our name inside. He made thousands of these bags, and they always included a stick figure drawing. It might be a picture of me scoring a soccer goal, or joining a club, or getting a part in a school play. Sometimes it would be an inside joke of some sort. He especially loved to quote Disney movies. Mulan most of all. But we were never embarrassed. Our friends loved the bags too. Everyone loves our dad. When my sister’s friend decided to become a baker, he’s the one who tasted everything she made. And when my best friend got benched on our soccer team, Dad wrote her a letter to build her confidence. That’s how he is with everyone. And he’s still that way, even with everything that’s happened. We began to notice the shaking at the end of last year. Then there started to be long pauses. And difficulty remembering. He was diagnosed with ALS, and the doctors have given him 2 to 5 years to live. He didn’t even cry when he found out. But he’d tear up every time he had to tell another friend or family member. Because he knew how much we’d hurt. It’s such a devastating disease. It’s really painful to watch someone we love so much go through this. He still runs every morninghe wants everyone to know that. But that will go one day. And so will his voice. And so will his hands. I know he’s really scared of that. He doesn’t want to lose his hands, because that’s how he’s always shown his love. When my youngest brother graduated from high school this year, we made my dad his own brown paper bag. We drew a picture of the three of us holding him up. And we wrote our favorite quote from Mulan: The greatest gift and honor-- is having you for a father. See more

07.01.2022 Way to go, farmer dad!

07.01.2022 My 13yo son was helping me install a bathroom sink when he asked me a question I wasnt sure how to answer. Did your dad make you do stuff like this? No, I ...said. He didnt. Then why are you making me do it? He said. Not to state the obvious, but he wasnt thrilled to be helping me. However, it was a pedestal sink, and I needed someone to hold it. Naturally, he gave me that look that all 13yo get when they think they caught their dad in some logical trap, and I would now admit that making him help me install a sink was some criminal use of child labor. When I was your age, my dad was in jail. I said, Thats why. I had both my hands under the sink, trying to attach the drain. I was grunting, but Tristan was quiet, and it seemed clear that this conversation wasnt going the way he intended. Then how did you learn to put in a sink? He asked. I laughed. I taught myself. I watched a lot of YouTube videos. I asked friends. I had to do the same thing with learning to tie a tie, and shaving my face. Basically all the stuff Im planning to teach you. Sure, he knew that grandpa Kent was my step dad. And yes, he knew my real father had a drug addiction. But I dont think hed ever added it all up and realized that by his age, I didnt have a dad in my life, and that meant not having someone to teach me. Listen, I said. I didnt have a great relationship with my dad. And its funny, Im sure if hed asked me to help put in a sink when I was your age, Id have been pretty bugged by it too. But now, looking back, I really wish wed have had more moments like the one we are having now. I probably would have learned a lot, and wouldnt have had to learn so much on my own, and I might not have made so many mistakes. So I guess what Im saying is, I love you enough to be here, and show you how to do the things my father never taught me. Tristan had both hands on the sink still. He thought about what I had to say, and then he asked me another question that I didnt expect. Whats that thing, there? Its a caulk gun. Ill use it in a moment. Will you show me how to use it? He said, and in so many ways what he was really saying was, I appreciate you being here for me. Sure bud. Ill show you, I said. But what I was really saying was, I love you.

She writes that a father’s affection is the best predictor of his daughter’s self-esteem, that six-month-olds with involved dads scored higher on mental development tests while toddlers with secure attachments to their fathers are better at problem-solving, and that #girls who feel connected to their father are less likely to suffer from low self-esteem, depression, substance abuse and self-harm."

Mom made the brownies. And the brownie mom loves best is the last brownie. So dont eat it. Ever. This goes for cookies, cake, and really anything baked. Want to know how I know this? 13: how? M: because I too have eaten the last brownie. 13: what happened? M: mom got pretty mad at me. And do you know what I did? 13: what? M: I did it again. I did it a few times because I just couldnt help myself. And do you know what happened? 13: she kept getting mad at you? M: yeah, but I also realized that I was kind of robbing your mother of that one treat she longed for. And well... she does a lot for me, for us, and eating the treat she really wanted, the one she made herself, was actually a big slap in the face to your mom. So I stopped doing it. 13: I dont like it. M: I get that. But honestly, son. Do you love your mother? 13: well yeah. M: loving someone means respecting their things, and in this situation, love looks like leaving the last brownie for your mother. 13: am I going to have to do this when I get married? M: probably. I mean, it might be something different. But honestly, youre lucky. 13: why? M: because I was almost 30 before I figured this out. Youre 13. You are WAY ahead of me. 13: fine. I wont eat the last brownie anymore. M: why? 13 (rolls eyes) because I love mom. M: exactly. See more
