The award is then registered with the court and is final.

20.01.2022 I want to sign up for mediation, but I dont want to be in the same room as my ex? HELP! To mediate, you do not have to be in the same room as your ex-partner. If relationships are strained, it is often better to mediate using the shuttle mediation method rather than a joint mediation method. Deborah Awyzio will help you identify the best method for your situation.

12.01.2022 It is not always easy to identify if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence or is in an abusive relationship. Below is a list of signs of abuse. These behaviours are typical of the jealousy, controlling behaviour,... put downs, threats and violence that occur in domestic violence and abusive relationships. Unfairly and regularly accuses her of flirting or being unfaithful Controls how she spends money Decides what she wears or eats Humiliates her in front of other people Makes sexist jokes against women Monitors what she is doing, including reading her emails and text messages Discourages or prevents her from seeing friends and family Threatens to hurt her, the children or pets Physically assaults her (hitting, biting, slapping, kicking, pushing) Decides what she uses for birth control Constantly criticizes her intelligence, mental health and appearance These are some examples of unacceptable behaviour. If you or someone you know experiences these signs it might help to seek professional support. (Source White Ribbon Australia) See more

08.01.2022 September 6-12th is Child Protection Week Child abuse and neglect is preventable. If we all work together as a community we can create an Australia where all children can grow up safe and well. Children thrive in strong well-connected communities where everyone plays a part in supporting families. As a small business, we believe that everyone can help create great environments for children (i.e. where people are friendly, where children feel safe and valued, and where par...ents can get the support that they need). At DA Family Lawyers in Brisbane, we recognise that every child is entitled to protection from harm. We can offer representation and advice concerning Childrens Court proceedings. Deborah Awyzio regularly appears in the Childrens Court to represent the children who are the subject of child protection orders and is skilled at negotiating with the Department of Child Safety, having a clear understanding of what principles and guidelines they apply in working with families who have children in need of protection. #childprotectionweek

07.01.2022 If you feel like somethings not quite the same with someone you know theres something going on in their life or you notice a change in what theyre saying or doing - trust that gut instinct and take the time to ask them Are you OK? If someone says theyre not OK, make time to listen, encourage action and check-in. That conversation could change, or even save, their life. See how to start the conversation here: https://www.ruok.org.au/
07.01.2022 Contravention of a court order is a serious issue, and you may be able to take action. It is important to note however that what might seem like a contravention of a court order to you, may not be according to the law. In these confusing times with border closures may impact parenting orders. If you are worried, then contact DA Family Lawyers today.
07.01.2022 If you are separated and have children, you may be entitled to receive or may be assessed to pay child support. You have the following options: Utilise the Child Support Agency to calculate the relevant child support payable and have them collect the payment;... Contact the Child Support Agency to find out the amount which would be assessed and then make private arrangements for the payment of that amount; Enter into a private agreement (child support agreement) for the payment of child support, eg. By the payment of private school fees, private health insurance, etc. You can access the website of the child support agency to find out what your child support liability or benefit would be. If you are unable to come to an agreement or believe your child's needs are not being adequately met or need a private agreement, contact us today.

02.01.2022 DA Family Lawyers can help arrange parenting plans to suit the needs of children and parents alike. After a family break-up, most parents want to work out plans for where their children will live. For some, this is resolved without too much hassle but sometimes parents just cant agree. They may think differently about what is best for their children or they can be caught up in their angry or hurt feelings about each other, and cant talk without arguing. We can help. Book an appointment via our website.
01.01.2022 Navigating shared parenting can sometimes feel like youre doing it all by yourself. When parents are able to communicate and have an amicable post-separation, there should be no need to have formal court orders, a parenting plan should be sufficient. You may prefer the certainty of having formal consent court orders as circumstances can change in the future, especially if the relationship becomes strained.
