25.01.2022 Just a couple of before/afters. Weve been in the house for nearly 3 and a half years now but feel like we never get anything done . Our property was a totally blank canvas. Which would excite some people but when you dont have money and lack garden know how and imagination, it feels very overwhelming. After some excellent advice from my friend (and at the time local nursery employee) and gun gardener, @life_at_little_oak_farm, and Im paraphrasing - "youre going to make m...istakes so you may as well just f*$&ing start". Little by little we just started planting stuff and building stuff. Next thing you know it looks like a garden. Not an amazing one, but a garden nonetheless. Having some bones makes it easier for me form a vision and also, seeing the progress in just 3 short years is great motivation. #daffodilhill #gardening #newgardener #farmhouse #garden #garden @ Wattle Grove, Tasmania, Australia
24.01.2022 Lucky little ducky, I am. Finally put a two year old birthday voucher to The Agrarian Kitchen to good use on their Tomato Gluttony cooking class. All tomatoes, all day. We made passata, conserva (paste), ketchup, kasoundi, green tomato chutney and holy hell, smoked tomatoes . It was an excellent start to my milestone birthday (40 *cough*) weekend.
24.01.2022 Tasmania is awful. Don't come here. #daffodilhill #thehuon #huonvalley #thehuonvalley #hobartandbeyond #tasmania #tassiepics #thisistassie #thehuonriver #instatassie

23.01.2022 My heart is full tonight. I had the most wonderful afternoon celebrating my and @rawceramics birthday at Willie Smiths. It was a perfect Huon Valley autumn day with warm sunshine and still air. Cider and excellent conversation all arvo, kids running amok in the gardens.. Im totally hashtag blessed with such superb friends. My heartfelt thanks to all and many happy returns Freda . ETA This is the only photo I took all day
23.01.2022 Dividing up the spoils. Sooo much stuff for the pantry. Cant wait to cook with the smoked tomatoes .
23.01.2022 Malus ioensis 'Rubra'. Growing up next to the house. Amazing pink blossom .
23.01.2022 We were gifted about 20 'Autumn Bliss' raspberry canes from our lovely neighbours @ourmissinglink. Finally in the ground in a makeshift berry patch . I'm not posting much at the moment as I'm knee deep in uni work. I've also just had lots of visitors here for my 40th birthday party. Been a very busy couple of weeks

22.01.2022 Good morning from Daffodil Hill. I don't care how chilly it is. I drink my tea outside on beautiful mornings like this . I'm finally feeling a little bit better from a recent headcold. Now I just need to catch up on missed uni work and prepare for all the visitors we're expecting this week...
22.01.2022 Pansies from Mollys flower garden.
22.01.2022 So, Ive been a bit slack about posting on insta lately. Its been a combination of busyness and just a lack of enthusiasm about it. Sometimes I self-impose a break to keep perspective . Anywho, uni is back and kicking my ass already. I have law and economics subjects this semester . Lots of reading of very bland textbooks heading my way... After our car ac issues in January, our gearbox blew up two weeks ago. $5000 to fix it. So, that was fun .... And finally! My amazing kid won the student prize for the acrylic/oil section of the 2019 Huon Art Awards for her painting The Roses . See more

21.01.2022 Bit of an experiment here. It's a peony rose in a pot. I don't have anywhere protected enough in the garden for peonies at the moment but I thought it might go OK against the house. We shall see. But at least the tuber is growing!

17.01.2022 Pansies from Molly's flower garden.
17.01.2022 My new pozzy for my morning cuppa now that it is officially too cold for outside . It is toasty warm in here with my new heatpumps. I'm so thankful for them now the weather has definitely turned towards winter. A wood fire is still lovely but when you're home a lot on your own caring for a 5 year old and you have such a big firebox and room to heat.. Well, it's just a bit of a chore really. For the mainlanders, a heatpump is just a reverse cycle air conditioner. Modern inverter aircons are amazingly efficient heaters. I've been monitoring the power meter over the last couple of days of solid use and they've added less than a dollar a day to the power bill. Much cheaper to run than wood but a much bigger outlay, of course. I've calculated that we'll be in front after 5 years. And there is the convenience factor too .
16.01.2022 Just for fun Molly and I are entering the Huon Art Show this year. It seems Mollys taken inspiration from my entry (on the fireplace). Well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so they say .
16.01.2022 Hi everybody. My name is Emily and Im addicted to buying multiple copies of literary classics adorned with beautiful cover art. I just bought this, my 5th copy of Austens classic Pride and Prejudice. Why? Because Im a sucker for beautiful cover art and this by far the most gorgeous version of this book Ive ever seen. And also, because well, Austen ... Well played @fullersbookshop, well played.

15.01.2022 Amazing moonrise here last night. The most fitting end to a lovely day of good friends, family, Easter eggs and wine. A birthday celebration for me (yes, another one!) and Easter egg hunt for the kids. It's a good sign when a lunchtime shindig is still shindigging into the evening
15.01.2022 Tea for two with macarons from Sweet Envy and tea by @pranachai. It's how we roll here on a Sunday at Daffodil Hill
14.01.2022 Hi Everyone! Welcome to Daffodil Hill. Here on the farm you'll find Geoff, Em and Molly. It's a brand new house and farm so we are starting from scratch. There's not much farm business going on but we are working on it

14.01.2022 Well hellooo instagram Long time between posts. I'm still here. Nearly finished uni for the year so maybe I'll feel inspired to post more regularly. How amazing is this rainbow? Due to our clean air and high latitude Tasmania is one of the best places in the world for rainbows. This one was so intense the good townsfolk of Cygnet were literally bumping into each other while having a gawk ... #daffodilhill #thehuon #huonvalley #thehuonvalley #tassie #instatassie #tasmania #tassiepics #thisistassie #hobartandbeyond #rainbows #discovertasmania

13.01.2022 We've mulched all the fruit trees this year in an attempt to keep the moisture in as long as possible. So much rain falls and runs down the hill here in winter. And in summer, the hot dry winds quickly dry out the soil. Don't be fooled! Tassie looks green and lush but in many places, only a couple of inches down it can be rock hard and dry as a.... Our fruit trees copped it particularly hard last summer with the weeks of smoke and ash from the bushfires. All our trees, which are only a few years old, were practically desiccated from the thick smoke and hot winds and I thought many of them would die. But they have all come back this year! It's normally survival of the fittest here, but I figure they've earned a little tlc this summer.

08.01.2022 Southern tassie this is not. I'm in Bali! Awesome hubby is manning the fort at home and I'm over here on my first overseas solo trip (except for work trips). I'm staying in a lovely little villa in Penestanan just outside of Ubud. I've been here less than 24 hours and already I've had three swims, 2 amazing meals and 3 interesting and very scenic walks around the area. That and book reading are on the cards until tomorrow when I might venture further down into Ubud or the Ca...mpuhan Ridge. Anybody got activity suggestions for me..? See more
