03.01.2022 Having trouble getting your child to take their medicine? Here are some top tips for helping make the medicine go down. 1. Be honest about the taste (ie. don’t tell them it tastes good if it doesn’t) and explain what the medicine does and how it is making them better. 2. Try giving your child some control over the situation, by letting them choose whether they want their medicine in a medicine cup or from a syringe. They may also be able to choose whether they want a tablet ...or a liquid (ask your pharmacist if this is possible). 3. Ask your pharmacist if they can add a flavour to the medicine to disguise its bitter taste. 4. Use a dropper to put the medicine on the inside of your child’s cheek pouch. This avoids the bitter taste buds at the back of the tongue. 5. Mix the medicine into food. In most cases, it is safe to crush a tablet or open a capsule and mix it in a favourite dish but always check with your doctor or pharmacist. Just make sure your child eats all the food so they get the full dose of medicine. 6. Always take a positive approach when talking with your child about their medicine. Tell them you are proud of them for being so good at taking their medicine. Remember: Children must always be supervised when taking medicine. ***PLEASE SHARE*** #Dialahomedoctor #139999
