25.01.2022 Aside from the positive vibes & incredible Kimberley colours, I'll tell you what I about this photo... There's more elements of than what first meets the eye. First there's ME, a Kimberley business woman, wearing some jewellery & a shirt from my Kimberley business .... 25.01.2022 ?! Well ... I’m glad that’s over ! Although it wasn’t all bad .. for me personally and from a business view. ... I got to learn of new things ... spend time focusing on different aspects of myself and the business. Social media was something that I’d shied away from due to lack of knowledge and time to spend on it. I signed up for various courses and found I actually really enjoyed it. Toni @teamsocialproject is an absolute whizz and her weekly lessons whipped me into shape and pushed me to try new things ... like LIVES !! I’ve also found I love hanging upside down like a bat ... this personal discovery was brought about by #thehangarbroome The aerial hammock sessions with @sairahanlon are simply awesome ... ? Its pretty dangerous in there as Simone carries some absolutely gorgeous clothing and gift wares ... 25.01.2022 ?!! ?!! .... ! I’ve always always always loved cats ... I can hardly remember not having them. So ... I was bound to do jewellery featuring them ... durrr ! ... This piece can be worn as both a pendant or as a brooch .. it has a pin fitted to the back !! Set with a green peridot and a AAA grade freshwater pearl... it appeals to the most ardent cat lovers ... also available in silver. One of the earliest I personally can remember was Tabitha ... a tortoiseshell moggy that we rescued when I was about 5 years old. I used to treat her like a doll and dress her up and push her around in a pram .... my mum said she would ride along happily ... 23.01.2022 Its so lovely to see people out and about wearing my creations. I get that fuzzy wuzzy feeling inside !... The first time I saw someone wearing one of my pieces outside of Broome was about 2005. We were in Myer Perth and spotted a lady wearing one of my early shell pieces. I was too nervous to approach her then but I was like a giddy kid ! To this day its still such a thrill. Sarah has been an avid collector of my pieces for a very long time time now and Louise made her first purchase on Saturday @broomemarkets. 22.01.2022 !!! I had a rummage through some stock yesterday and came across some anklets. They were beautiful but pretty delicate. Anklets, to be truthful, get a rough ride ! ... We cycle and catch them on the pedals .. We pull on pants or jeans and then drag them out of the bottom ... We sleep in them and get them tangled in bedding !!! See how mean we are to them !! So I decided to give them a new lease of life and remake them into a pretty neck chain and earrings !! 15.01.2022 Thanks @tonikinz from @socialproject for your question on how to look after jewellery during the upcoming Wet Season here in the tropical north of Australia ! So ... things can get pretty sweaty and sticky up here in the wet season. It can have a pretty, pain in the butt effect on jewellery.. especially silver. ... Heres the tech whizz .... pretty much all silver jewellery is an alloy of two metals .. usually fine silver and copper. And its usually 92.5% fine silver (which is very soft) and 7.5% copper (this hardens it allowing it to be shaped and stay like that) ... hence the stamp you see .. 925 for silver. The tarnish is silver sulphide and it forms as the silver reacts with sulphur compounds in the atmosphere. So, humid air and heat can both hasten tarnishing. Therefore, try storing silver in an area of your home which does not suffer from heat fluctations, and also is not too humid. Im all out for trying the fridge this year !! Also things like perfume, hairspray, deodorant and moisturisers can all contribute to further tarnishing of your silver due to the chemicals reacting with the silver. Silver tarnish is a form of corrosion, but unlike rust, it does not destroy the underlying metal and can be removed relatively easily. To slow down tarnishing, clean your silver jewelry after wearing it. Oils from your skin accumulate on the surface of silver and can predispose it to oxidization. Simply wash it in some warm water with a bit of hand soap or dishwashing liquid .. not heaps of it .. just a dot, rinse it and pat dry. And you know those little bags of silica balls you get in boxes that bring all your multitudes of online orders .. SSHHH ! ... you can use those to help too. Pop your jewellery in a zip lock bag with one .. squeeze all the air out ... voil !! 14.01.2022 The great thing about living in Broome is that its easy to get to almost anywhere in about 5 minutes. The drive up to Willie Creek is a bit longer but well worth it !! 14.01.2022 # I love all wildlife .. especially cats ... I know there are haters but we are the ones that are ultimately responsible for that problem. So today Im introducing Timmy .. my current Dahlia Designs helper. ??!! .. yes .. my helper ! My 3 cats are still at home in Tassie along with the hubby and I miss them dreadfully .. the cats that is ... I need animals in my life to function. They are my relaxation after a tough, stressful day. They calm my soul. Being pet bereft in Broome was never going to be a thing so I was very lucky to be able to offer Timmy a temporary home and help him. Unsure of his past and definitely pretty terrified of people and especially feet (which leads me to think hes been kicked) I wanted to help humanise him. After two weeks living under my sofa he decided I must be relatively ok as I kept putting food out for him that would disappear overnight. And although he still tends to sleep under there, he now comes out when I call him and loves being stroked and tickled on his belly, all things string and his floppy fish ! We are working on the picking up stage but it will come. Hes come so far already and he makes my day better everyday. I want to find him a loving home where he can be someone elses utter joy everyday. Someone to love him and care for him as he deserves. His life so far has not been his fault !! 11.01.2022 $. ?! Stunning pearls !! I love popping into @paspaley boutique in Broome to say hi to the lovely staff and see what new goodies they have. This pic was taken 7 years ago wearing the stunning Vivienne Strand ... an absolute whopper of gorgeous round top notch pearls. ... There are similarities between their pearls and mine believe it or not ... and one of them is how to care for them !! Best advice ... make your jewellery the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. So that means get your perfume, hairspray etc done first. Literally the only thing to do after is pick up your phone and take a splendid selfie The reason .. perfumes etc contain alcohol generally to hold the scent. This can eat away in to the nacr of your pearl and let it go dull. If you happen to get anything on them by accident then a gentle wash with a dot of dishwashing detergent. Pat them dry. Its always fun to see something come to life from an idea. ... This past weekend after the Saturday market I turned into a hip hopper and also a ring master from the Greatest Showman. 09.01.2022 !! !! Last Thursday at the night markets a customer came along looking at some Boab pendants. She pointed at a particular one and asked if I had it smaller. I didn’t so she carried on browsing. Leaving her for a few moments I showed her another. She said it was too big. ... A few questions further she said it was for her pendant she was wearing to replace a super tarnished damaged one. So .. I suggested an earring ! She thought it would be too big but I offered to make it up to show her and ta’da !!! It worked !! She was thrilled .. 06.01.2022 !! @ ! Chinatown put on an amazing evening celebrating all of us fabulous women !! ... I joined the team for the evening at On The Lane to help the lovely Simone who stocks a selection of my jewellery. The place was packed to the rafters with both local and visiting ladies. I think the free champagne was an absolute game changer ... who doesnt enjoy a bubbles whilst shopping Maddie has been working at Simones for a long while whereas Sara .. well it was her 2nd day !! Nothing like being thrown in at the deep end !! And she certainly swam !! We were joined earlier by Toni from @socialproject who apart from looking so glamorous like one of the ladies from Selling Sunsets, she was talking to business ladies about her social media company.
