20.01.2022 Adorable photo of one of our previous years hatchlings
18.01.2022 Australasian Darter birds (Anhinga novaehollandiae) have to be one of the top contenders for prettiest plumage in the Daintree (after the Kingfishers of course ). But where they have their bright showy colours this male Snake Necked Darter has a more classic and elegant colouring, some would call it a timeless style. The female can also be spotted on our rivers sporting a simple but stunning white chest with her back plumage leaning more towards the greys.
14.01.2022 We've all seen the chicken walking in front of KFC.... But what about this Darter Bird swimming directly in front of a sunbaking croc! We don't know whether this shows off just how lazy crocs can be or just how unfazed some of our birds are He wasn't just passing through either, he spent a good 5 minutes cruising around the croc fishing for his own lunch!
13.01.2022 Let's take a break from all the animal pics and share some facts about our Rainforest! Did you know?! - The Daintree Rainforest contains 90% of Australia's butterfly and bat species - It is believed to be 180 Million years old! - There are 12,000 different insect species within our area ... . 12.01.2022 Do you know how fast a crocodile can swim?? While on land these evolutionary marvels tend to fail a little after a brief spurt, (especially the older boys! Those belly's are a bit of a hindrance ), in the water they absolutely power through! With a tail that's adapted over generations to propel them at high speeds they are an Apex Predator for a reason. Their scutes (tail spikes) help maximise their surface area allowing for strong propulsian, and the streamlined shape of their body helps cut through the water with ease. We tend to forget that seeing them laze around on our banks day in day out, but our Estuarine Crocodiles are a Top Predator
12.01.2022 We don't often get to see wild snakes in shed, they go into hiding.. For good reason! If you look closely at this Common Tree Snakes eyes you'll notice their blue, almost zombie like. This change happens as a result of skin loosening and fluid building up between the old and new skin layers, which is why you'll also see them look duller and saggy. During this period it's believed their senses, including sight, are dulled which is why they're quite often very defensive and shy during this period. Once he sheds this layer he'll be extra shiny and stunning!

Blending in green to the guinea grass was the stunning White Lipped Green Tree Frog ( Litoria Infrafrenata ) and hiding in the background, no doubt keeping an eye on what he hopes will be his lunch, is a Juvenile Estuarine Crocodile ( Crocodylus Porosus )
