21.01.2022 Beach’s or boardwalks?? What do you want to explore most? Can’t seem to choose... lucky this is were the rainforest meets the reef Beautiful shots by IG_delphineng_78 and IG_kevinpariseau looks like you had some great adventures!

20.01.2022 More of this morning's photos taken on our front lawn - one of our wallabies was quite unconcerned at the approach of a mother and child Pheasant Coucal! Edit - looks as if I was completely wrong! Not Pheasant Coucals but actually male and female Golden Pheasants. They are not normally found in the wild here so I wonder if they have perhaps escaped from somewhere. No way of knowing unfortunately.

19.01.2022 If you saw my post the other day of our blossom-laden mango tree, here's an update on my walk just now. A bit fuzzy, sorry! You can see tiny pea-sized mini-mangoes amongst the blossom. Most will drop off but it looks as if we should have a good crop. Lots of insects buzzing around - usually native stingless bees do much of the pollinating and I just spotted a lone insect but couldn't get a good enough shot to try to identify it.

18.01.2022 A lovely surprise today. Our beautiful red Flame of the Forest vine usually comes out in July/August about the same time as the stunning green Jade Vine but this year no sign of the Flame and we thought all the vines must have died. Today Peter spotted a flash of red and found several young bracts just coming out - and up in the tree-tops a fully-formed one. The Jade is slowing down now but still some flowers high in the trees. Happy!

18.01.2022 I'm seeing red!!! Literally everywhere around the garden on my walk this afternoon!

16.01.2022 Here's one lovely sight we didn't think we'd see this year - our Flame of the Forest vine is really starting to look more like it's spectacular self, almost 3 months later than normal. And good to see our water-lilies are thriving on the dam.

16.01.2022 So happy the other day when guests spotted a group of Climbing Pandanus beside our walking track and I was able to find them yesterday. We used to see many of them in another part of the track but over time they disappeared. These amazing plants grow up tree trunks and at this time of year the crown turns from green to bright orange and finally red and produces some small fruits. I thought they were only endemic to the Daintree but I read they are also found in New Guinea - http://www.canbr.gov.au//entities/Freycinetia_marginata.htm

15.01.2022 Aren't these native, wild figs amazing? Sometimes called Cluster Figs they grow out of the trunk and branches of the tree. These beauties are just behind one of our bungalows. Double-eyed Fig Parrots love them! That's an old photo of mine of a female Parrot - the male has a band of red below the eye - beautiful birds and often hard to see in the foliage.

13.01.2022 Lovely to see frogs again - we used to see lots of them. This little Green Tree Frog is on the wall in the lounge this morning - he's only about 4 cm long. His close relative, the White-lipped Green Tree Frog is Australia's largest and can grow up to 14 cm (5.5 in) - here's an old photo of a White-lipped who had joined our menagerie of ornaments!

09.01.2022 Emmagen Creek looking picture perfect How good is winter in the tropics!!! You’ll find this beautiful creek at the beginning of the #bloomfieldtrack, if you staying in the region or heading north along the track be sure to add this beauty to your list Epic shot by @bigcruize

09.01.2022 We've got a lovely bunch of 'nanas! One of the biggest bunches we've ever had - the green ones will gradually ripen over the next few days. They are called Ducasse and we have quite a few growing here. They are the best we've ever tasted, like a cross between a Lady Finger and a Sugar Banana. They don't even go brown when cut!

09.01.2022 As the world is still wobbling on it's axis we have decided, for the remainder of this year, to accept direct bookings only. You will not find us on any online sites such as booking.com which means we can try to avoid more cancellations and confusion. Please enquire via our booking engine on our Daintree Valley Haven website or chat to us by message, email or phone call so we can all check the latest government rules and regulations! And hopefully we will all do our part to keep beautiful Far North Queensland virus-free, as it has been since the pandemic began!

07.01.2022 Well, it looks as if we may have a good mango crop this year! The orange colour is on our 'best' tree and it's absolutely loaded with blossom of our favourite fruit. Usually ripe around Christmas/New Year.

06.01.2022 Lots of them in our dam here at Daintree Valley Haven - often spotted from guests' verandahs!

06.01.2022 Did you know that the southern cassowary is one of the closest living relatives to dinosaurs Be sure to be on the look out for the descendants of dinosaurs on your next #destinationdaintree visit. This stunning shot was snapped by @getcooked32

06.01.2022 The fascinating historical story of our beautiful river.

04.01.2022 How's this for an unusual sight?! I was watching one of our resident wallabies on the front lawn this morning when a juvenile pheasant coucal wandered up to him - mum pheasant was pecking away in the background. I'll post more photos later.

03.01.2022 We're wondering where Winter went! By now the weather is normally cooler and drier with daytime temps in the high 20's (C) and night down to the mid teens. Instead we're having drizzly days with minimums still 21-22 and daytime only a few degrees higher! Oh well, at least the drizzle is still warm! And keeps the grass growing! Edit later - and now the sun is out again and gardens looking fabulous!!!

03.01.2022 Good news for our guests when they cross the Daintree River to explore the rainforest up to Cape Tribulation. They can now travel a little further, past the beautiful Emmagen Creek.

03.01.2022 Hanging out where the rainforest meets the reef taking in paradise Beautiful shot by @travellin_bareback

02.01.2022 Interesting morning. After I'd mowed our walking-tracks I felt something on the back of my neck, knocked it off and almost freaked 'cos it looked like a scorpion! I took a couple of fuzzy photos and headed for Mr Google where I found it is a variety of Leaf Insect. Now happily resting on a nearby leaf outside!

01.01.2022 As regular as clockwork this is the time of year when our beautiful Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfishers return from PNG for their annual breeding season .... and a few minutes ago I heard the very first call. This is an old photo of mine so I hope to take some new ones, but they are very elusive, fast-flying birds!
