23.01.2022 We are sad to announce that due to the downturn in visitation as a result of COVID19 we have no other choice but to temporarily close Daintree Wonder Tours We will reassess this often, based on the best government and health advice available at the time. Lets take care of each other and practice random acts of kindness often. Together we can weather this storm.

22.01.2022 CritterCorner - Terrestrial snails, aka land snails, are a group of land-dwelling gastropods that have the ability to breathe air (this includes slugs, which are very similar to snails except they lack a shell) & they are often referred to as Natures Recyclers. The Wet Tropics area in far north Queensland is home to over 220 species of terrestrial snails (more than half of which have not been formally described yet) and at least 86 of these species are micro-snails, meaning ...their shells are less than 5mm in diameter. Can you spot the micro-snail in this photo? -- repost @rainforestrescueau Image courtesy of @MartinStringerPhotography -- #MicroSnail #SnailsOfInstagram #ForestFacts #RainforestFacts #ForestFauna #ProtectRainforestsForever #RainforestRescueAu #RR99 #RainforestRescuers #TreesAreTheAnswer #PlantARainforest #RainforestGuardians #RainforestGuardian #TimeToGrow #ForestsForAllForever #PlantATree #ClimateAction #ClimateActionNow #ChangeForGood #BuyBack #Reforest #RainforestsOfAustralia #EcoWarrior #Rewilding #DiscoverTheDaintree #DaintreeRainforest #FarNorthQueensland #Australia #RainforestLove

21.01.2022 A birds eye view of Thornton Peak - also known as Wundu by the indigenous Eastern Kuku Yalanji people. The final push to the true summit of this mountain is a harrowing one and requires a risky stem, but the view is uninterrupted and the most spectacular of all the mountains in Queensland. Classed by many as a grade 5 hike and the second hardest mountain in QLD to climb. Daintree Rainforest, Australia @steven_dangaard

19.01.2022 A very special moment shared with a cassowary chick. Cassowaries have a good spatial memory of their territory and the male (who provides all parental care) will lead the chicks around to various sources of water and fruiting trees within his territory. When the chicks become independent they know where to find what they need until they leave (or are chased out) to find territories of their own.

17.01.2022 Davidsonia is a genus containing three rainforest tree species native to Australia, that are commonly known as the Davidson or Davidsons plum. The fruits superficially resemble the European plum, but are not closely related. All species have an edible sour fruit with burgundy coloured flesh and are highly regarded as gourmet bushfood.

11.01.2022 VICTORIAS RIFLEBIRD This beauty is highly sought after by bird watchers. One of Australias few Birds of Paradise, its black plumage is actually an incredibly deep iridescent purple, and the males have flashes of brilliant turquoise running across their heads, chests, and tails. When a male is trying to get a females attention, he will distort his body and puff out his feathers to highlight the turquoise patterning, which shines through the low light of the forest. He will fan out his wings and sway, dancing until a female draws close and allows herself to be embraced and mated with. Photo by our guide Justin McMahon

04.01.2022 How could you say no to these eyes?! Unlike most spiders, the Net-casting Spider or affectionately known as the Ogre-faced Spiders (Deinopis subrufa) has excellent eyesight. Their huge pair of forward-facing eyes help these nocturnal spiders see in the dark; allowing them to capture unwary insects passing by their web S. Humphreys repost @australianmuseum

We are happy to report that they have completely assimilated back into the wild and we occasionally see and hear them in the trees around our property.
