19.01.2022 Advocacy group Dairy Connect welcomed a new NSW Government plan to identify and free-up the cross-border movements of interstate workers including shearers, contract harvesters, fruit pickers and others. Dairy Connect CEO Shaughn Morgan said the announcement would earn the state government brownie points by the score from producers hit by cross-border movement restrictions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The NSW Government will write a new Agricultural Workers Code into public health orders, paving the way for the farm sector to find skilled workers for the upcoming harvest, Mr Morgan said. https://www.seymourtelegraph.com.au//more-promises-on-vic-

14.01.2022 Quote : The course has been developed as a collaboration between Dairy Australia, processors, milk haulage companies and training providers to offer standardize...d national training. It has been endorsed by the Australian Milk Quality Steering Group and the Dairy Industry People Development Council, representing a cross-section of the industry. The program was initiated on the back of calls from industry as milk swaps increased, alongside the outsourcing of milk collections, the use of milk transfer stations and movement of tanker drivers between regions and companies. With different protocols across the supply chain, haulage companies were having to provide up to twenty inductions for new drivers. https://www.dairyaustralia.com.au//new-national-training-p

10.01.2022 (Dairy) Connect president Graham Forbes calls for A2 milk suppliers to be properly remunerated The trans-Tasman dairy brand last month broke through into the top 50 biggest companies on the Australian Securities Exchange after building on its success in the infant formula market. ALEX SINNOTT, The Weekly Times June 30, 2020 4:08pm... JUGGERNAUT dairy brand The a2 Milk Company has bucked the share market downturn and farmer groups say the stock exchange success should flow through to the farmgate. The trans-Tasman dairy brand last month broke through into the top 50 biggest companies on the Australian Securities Exchange after building on its success in the wellness and infant formula markets. On the back of its rising financial fortunes, the company has confirmed it is looking to shift from brand owner to manufacturer. a2 Milk chief executive Geoff Babidge did not specify which processor it was aiming to acquire, although reports on both sides of the Tasman indicate the Mataura Valley Milk company in New Zealand was in its sights. The a2 Milk Company confirms it has had, and continues to have, various discussions with a number of parties in relation to potential strategic options, Mr Babidge said. (The discussions) relate to participation in manufacturing capacity and capability as stated in our half year results announcement on 27 February. The a2 Milk Company confirms that it is in compliance with the listing rules and will continue to keep the market informed in accordance with its disclosure obligations, including if and when any such discussions were to reach a conclusion. China Animal Husbandry Group owns nearly four fifths of Mataura Valley Milk which is based 70km northeast of Invercargill on New Zealands South Island. a2 Milk Companys rapid rise has been replicated with a number of processors nationwide paying a premium for A2 classified milk. However, (Dairy) Connect president Graham Forbes said suppliers of the premium product needed to be appropriately remunerated for the effort involved. Look, its a great marketing success story. I really see the concept of A2 milk as the Banana in Pyjamas of milk marketing you cant really tell the difference except for the B1 and B2 on the front, Mr Forbes said. To be an A2 milk supplier, you really have to jump through a few more hoops than the conventional dairy farmer. I know with Norco, A2 suppliers are getting a four cents a litre premium for doing all that work yet we see the end product being sold with a $1 premium whacked on. The customer may well think theyre paying a good price to the farmer by buying these specially labelled products, Im sure many consumers do. The value has to be reflected right through the supply chain not just in the share price.

02.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE 26 August 2020 Standards Australia officially walk away from quad bike legislation raising genuine concerns about NFF strategy The countrys leadi...ng independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit standards organisation, Standards Australia yesterday confirmed in writing that they will not develop a Quad Bike Standard or a Technical Specification for Crush Protection Devices (CPDs). Craig Hartley, founder of Save the Quad Bike in Australia, This development raises serious concerns about the NFFs strategy from the very start and the overall commitment to meaningful long-term on-farm safety outcomes. The most fundamental question is this: who will now make these so called CPDs? Back Yard Bobs Engineering and Fabrication Services? This is becoming a very serious and yet, genuine farce! Secondly, with no overarching standard and no technical specification who will take responsibility when a CPD fails, snaps, breaks or is deemed, via a Coronial Inquest, to contribute to a fatality? These are very serious questions that no one wants to talk about and yet these questions underpin the entire debate and the NFFs emotive driven strategy. We know the ACCC refused to address the economic and social ramifications of the decision and that over 200 dealers are likely to close, with the loss of rural jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue. We also know that only 25% of last years quad bike deaths were farmers, another 25% were recreational quads with one child fatality. Yet the remaining 50% were SSV buggies with half of the SSV deaths attributed to children. But theres also another major angle to this entire debate that the ACCC and NFF did not think through: We are now seeing inconsistent and incoherent State based approaches to quad bike safety and a genuine disjoint between the quad bike standard enacted by the Federal Government and State based Work Place Health and Safety Legislation. If you want messy, if you want to see what an emotionally driven Ag policy looks like; look no further than the NFFs position on quad bikes. It beggars belief that we never needed to go down this road. The solution global manufacturers argued from day one was simple: develop a national harmonised approach to education, training and licensing. And yet, even with Standards Australia pulling out, the NFF refuse to sit down at the table to save jobs, save businesses and save lives. Sad but true, ended Mr Hartley.
