22.01.2022 If you give a kid a basketball, they will want a hoop to go with it. Then, they will probably spend hours begging you to go out in the yard to play with them, e...ven though you may want to sit on the couch and watch tv. They will insist. And their insistence will win. And when a kid gets a jersey, they will need shorts and socks and shoes to go with it. And a TEAM.. And then life as you know it will end. There will be no more lazy weekends watching tv. You will see more sunrises than you ever thought possible. Every spare minute of your time will be spent taking your child to practice for a game. THE GAME. And your house will be a mess. And your car will be dirty. All because you gave a kid a basketball. Your weekends will be spent freezing or burning to death on a chair. And their weekends will be spent gaining confidence and friends, and learning new skills and having fun. And you will be there the day they make their first goal, first foul, and their first 3 pointer . And they will make you SO proud. The other mums & dads will congratulate you. But you feel weird saying thank you because it's not you with the ball on the court. It's everything them. They did this. And right before your eyes, your little child will be transformed from the baby who spun around with their hand on the ball making their first goal (because they love attention). Because they love attention still. When you give a kid a basketball, you give them more than just a ball. You give them a sport, and talent, and hope, and dreams, and friends, a new family, a place to learn about the life, room to grow as a person where they can push their limits, and bravery, and courage and LIFE, and memories. And they will have ALL of these things, simply because you gave a kid a basketball. Because you gave a kid a basketball, you too will develop new/lifelong friendships, developed solely from the same passion for the game and love of your team. You will cheer together. Because you gave a kid a basketball. Then one day, many years from today.they will be in their room and a basketball will roll out from an old dusty bag underneath their bed. And they will pick it up and realize instantly that when you gave that kid a basketball, you also gave them a childhood that they would never forget. And then they will hug you, and your eyes may leak because you realize that everything YOU gave up along the way..was worth it! All because you gave a kid a basketball .

06.01.2022 WIZARDS UPDATE 2020 Junior Registrations are open Happy Holidays Wizards Fam! We hope you've had some time to relax with family and friends during the festive season.... Our Wizards staff and volunteers are taking a well-earned break, ready for another huge year. Have you heard that our new stadium at Zillmere will be open for business in the second half of 2020? We are really looking forward to our Wizards community having their very own home! In discussions with our clubs we've made some exciting changes for 2020: New competitions and seasons - the addition of an Under 9 competition for the very first time! - to accommodate new players graduating from our WizKidz programs, we will start a new season for Under 9's & Under 11's each school term. - an extended junior championship season for Under 13 to Under 19 players. Starting in early February, the season will include 2 weeks of club trials, 3 weeks of grading games then a longer championship season right through to finals at the end of August. Updated registration schedule - Under 9's & Under 11's will pay the 365-day Basketball Qld fee when they register (if it is due) plus their Wizards registration fee each school term, due to the re-start of their competitions each term. - Under 13's to Under 19's will pay the 365-day Basketball Qld fee when they register (if it is due) and will pay a single fee for the junior championship season, from sign-on to the end of term 3. This is similar to the combined Grading/Championship season fee that was available at the start of 2019. - Registrations are now open and will close on 30th January prior to the first club trials. We recommend not leaving it until the last minute as club teams will fill up quickly. - Payment options will include upfront payment and AfterPay (Note that we are no longer able to offer payment arrangements). All the latest information is available on our website. The club trials schedule will be published in mid-January. 05.01.2022 What a fantastic year for the Dakabin State High School Basketball Academy! In September our open teams competed in the Champion Schools of QLD Tournament with the girls finishing 4th in Division 2. The boys competed in Division 1 and are now ranked 13th in state. This weekend saw our junior teams competing in the same tournament with the girls finishing 7th in Division 2 and the boys finishing 12th in the state in Division 1. Up the Dragons!

New Basketball Queensland regulations require all coaches ...of rep teams to have a minimum "Club Level" accreditation. Northside Wizards will be providing an opportunity for those who are currently coaching, or intend to coach at representative level, to gain this accreditation. Saturday 28th September. 9.30am - 1.30pm South Pine Sports Complex (indoor Stadium), Brendale. Cost - FREE for coaches currently active within the Wizards. Minimum levels of experience are required. 01.01.2022 Under 12 Identification and Development Program - strictly for boys and girls born in 2010, 2011 or 2012 who are currently enrolled within a Northside Wizards B...asketball (NWB) program or competition. NWB has identified the need to invest some time in to this age bracket to improve the overall quality of our Under 12 competitions and expand the pool of potential future representative players for 2021. Our first step to achieving this involves this upcoming 6-week talent identification and development program for both boys and girls. This program will be facilitated by our most experienced and professional coaches with the specific task of upskilling the entire age bracket by exposing players to challenging drills, basketball specific concepts and higher order thinking activities. We are looking to get as many of these players as possible in this age bracket to attend, no matter their current skill level or number of terms experience. If your child is enjoying their basketball and wants to improve, they want to have bigger impact in their games, is planning on continuing next year or has aspirations of playing representative basketball, then I encourage you to enroll in this program and to attend as many of the sessions as possible. This program will be commencing NEXT WEEK so we have a very quick turnaround before we hit the court. There will be limited spots available with registrations closing on Monday 31st August. There will be no water fountain or canteen facilities available. Players should only register for one of the sessions (eg Tuesday OR Wednesday) to save spots for other families. At this stage there will be no spectators allowed in the venues due to the bio-security requirements of both Boondall and Brendale facilities. Parents will be asked to wait outside until the conclusion of each session. We apologise for this. Coach Development if you have an interest in coaching or are actively coaching a team within this age group then you are invited to attend the sessions as an assistant coach. This is to provide coaches with new skills, drills and terminology to take back to trainings to continue player development when the program is complete.
