23.01.2022 ** ALERT ** Federal Gvt $25K HomeBuilder grants program opened today, Thu 4th June, and will run until 2020 year end. Key points summary: * $25K grants offered to eligible homeowners, ie owner-occupiers, but recipients must spend min $150K of their own money for certain works on their homes, ie: ** Substantial renovations, excluding any structures separate to the main property, eg, swimming pools, tennis courts, sheds... ** Construction of new homes - homeowners must engage a licensed builder to complete the works and limits apply on the value of the property concerned * The grants will be means-tested to exclude: Couples and individuals making more than $200K and $125K per year respectively * New builds capped at $750K and renovations between $150K and $750K, will only be subsidised if the house concerned is valued at under $1.5M * The scheme excludes investment properties or owners intending to build/renovate on their own without the help of eligible builders * All eligible builders must be licensed/registered before the Gvts announcement * Total funding circa $688M. Just when the business community starts to gather some momentum with the Covid-19 restrictions gradually being eased, another potential financially devastating business timebomb has been planted with this weeks Federal Court decision in the Work Pac case. Heres a brief summary: ... A casual employee working regular hours primarily for one employer being deemed as permanent employee by the relevant employment legislation, is not new for superannuation entitlement purposes, the difference here is that relevant leave entitlements will also now be applicable and back pay for them may also be required The extra financial burden for any business impacted, particularly labour hire businesses, could run into seven or eight figure sums. To mitigate these issues, my very astute colleague and a recognised authority in this space, Neil Fairley, recommended we consider what he calls a Non-Employment Engagement Solution. Sounds a bit odd, but an absolute must to duly consider for any business impacted by such scenarios. His legally proven solution works to the benefit of all parties.
