21.01.2022 Easter is a fabulous time of year to spend with family and friends, and of course this is usually done around food in particular chocolateIt is inevitable. Our biggest advice here at Dale Health is absolutely enjoy your Easter weekend but when making choices around these types of "sometimes foods" be able to make a choice which is informed and educated. Here are our top 4 tips to get you through the Easter period happy and healthy! - Embrace your dark side- Many Easter egg...s are made from poor quality milk chocolate, instead swap the milk chocolate for dark chocolate. Research has shown that dark chocolate reduces cravings for salty, sweet and fatty foods as compared to milk chocolate. Dark chocolate hasn't been through the processing that milk chocolate has which eliminates that strong /bitter taste, which means there is double the amount of antioxidants in dark as compared to milk. - Try to limit the amount of chocolate brought into your house, sometimes we often eat chocolate because it is simply just there. Easy solution purchase less and store it away- out of sight out of mind. - Portions! Instead of finishing off that 250g chocolate Easter bunny which has close to 1000 calories, how about swapping it for a 40g dark small chocolate egg that has around 30 calories and is wrapped, not only do you get more bang for your calorie buck, but you mindfully have to open each one, this gives you a moment to stop and enjoy the taste. - Keep active the more you can move the better, this can easily be done by playing a game of cricket, going on a family walk or even starting your day off with a walk/ quick jog, research has shown just 15 minutes of high intensity exercise plays a significant role on your brain in decreasing the want for foods which are high in sugar, salt and fat. - Remember it is just one weekend, and not to completely give up on your weight, fitness and health goals. If you have one day of indulgence on foods you don't normally eat, do know that the next day you can be a little more active and start your day right with a healthy and nutritious breakfast to get you back on track.
