25.01.2022 Your backyard will smell amazing and once ripe you will get a juicy tree ripened white fleshed nectarine. They can be kept small by growing them in pots ( via root restriction) or can easily be kept to 2m but you will need to prune them 1-2 times per year. Otherwise they will grow 2-5m in ideal conditions in the ground. This is a grafted variety known for producing a large crop and their white juicy sweet flesh. You only need one tree because they are self pollinating and can set fruit with a tiny amount of chill hours (250hrs) in subtropical climates or for those in coastal areas. They are fruiting right now in Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery and when we wrote this message we had quite a few ready to send to Australian backyards. #daleysfruit #nectarinetree #fruittrees

25.01.2022 Truly a taste sensation - the humble Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) brings a tropical flavour into the winter months for sub-tropical growers. Originally from China this delicious self-pollinating fruit tree is easy to grow and maintain at a compact 3 or 4 meter size for ease of harvest and netting. The critically endangered Coxen's fig parrot (believed by some to have slipped into extinction) was last seen in the Murwillumbah area of Northern NSW eating from a Loquat tree on the outskirts of town!

24.01.2022 Check out this lush finger lime photography from our friends up over the scenic rim!

24.01.2022 J A B O T I C A B A (Myrciaria cauliflora) aka the Brazillian Grape Tree. The fruit grows on the trunk - known as Cauliflory. Sometimes this avoids detection from the birds, bats and possums - and sometimes they work it out, so we recommend slinging a net over before the fruit ripens. This is an ideal specimen for an edible hedge if you're feeling patient (slow growing and won't set fruit until around 5 years). ... Here is a tip from Carla - collect and dry the fruit skin and you can make a tasty antioxidant rich tea (put the pulp inside the freezer for homemade sorbet!).

23.01.2022 An incredible story of how a mulberry tree appears to have saved a home from the black summer bushfires.

23.01.2022 A good chance that much of Eastern Australia will likely double their average rainfall for October.. the ideal scenario for planting fruit trees and establishing a thriving edible ecology in your backyard.

23.01.2022 A tree ripened Rollinia is so delicious. A tropical Annona species from Central America. Grows very well in the Subtropics. This 5 year old seedling tree is in our Biodome and is fruiting for the first time. Would love to hear from anyone that is fruiting it in cooler areas. Growing them in a Polyhouse maybe worth a try to fruit this delicious Custard Apple outside its ideal climate. #rollinia #annonaceae #custardapples #tropicalfruittrees

21.01.2022 The Pink Star Apple is a beautiful tree being both edible and Ornamental. Kath shows you why this is a great choice for anyone wanting a stunning specimen tree that produce tasty, sweet fruit.

20.01.2022 Can be grown in colder parts of Australia like Melbourne & Adelaide and also up in the subtropical parts like Brisbane. This the Bessell Brown loquat and is a #grafted variety of Loquat that has lasted the test of time because of its taste, size of the fruit and ability to produce a large crop. You can grow seedling loquats but it is touch and go. You wait twice as long to get fruit and only then will you know what the fruit tastes like and how well it crops. Search Loquat Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery site #loquat #loquatbessell #fruittrees #daleysfruit

19.01.2022 Jackfruit espalier anyone?

18.01.2022 P I G E O N P E A (Cajanus cajan) is a classic nitrogen fixing companion plant quite often used in Syntropic farming and Permaculture style agroecological systems of food producton. We also grow it in our food forest biodome to increase biomass and protect our frost sensitive tropicals through the winter months. (Prune no later than February). Pigeon Pea has a symbiosis with Rhizobia, a bacteria that fixes atmospheric nitrogen into the soil. ... And yes, of course, the peas are also edible!

17.01.2022 Some people don't like guavas because of their hard seeds. This variety is the starling white guava and if you were to grow just this guava and your neighbours nearby didn't have a guava then you should get even fewer seeds forming than in this picture. This is due to no cross pollination. We have lots of guavas growing at Daleys and in this photo there isn't as many seeds as the usual white guava varieties. So we would expect some of our customers in the above scenario to pr...oduce guavas with far less seeds than us when growing the starling white guava. Taste is still very sweet and the fruits grow quite large with white flesh and green skin that goes more yellow and fragrant and soft when ripening. They do like warmer climates and could be kept small in a pot. Which makes them easier to protect with netting. #guavatree #fruittrees #daleysfruit See more

16.01.2022 One of our customers said this "I have the Gold Gulf Plum in Durack, Brisbane, was in the ground for only eight months, and i got about 35 good sized plums, i have it done in Espalier, second year now great fruit, chill factor does not worry it, fruit ready in december to January" A great comment because in this video we talk about how you can get large fruit without weighing down the branches. Also we talk about how like this customer you can use the "Espalier" technique to make sure you get very large quantities of fruit without breaking the branches. Partially self pollinating in our experiments at Daleys we have found them to set fruit with just 1 tree however improved fruit set can be achieved via cross pollination with a gulf ruby plum tree.

09.01.2022 The delicious Rollinia (Rollinia deliciosa) another tropical classic in the Custard Apple family (Annonaceae) related to Soursop and the more cold hardy Cherimoya. With 108 accepted genera and about 2400 known species, the Annonaceae are the largest family in the Magnoliales. It has been described by some as the lemon meringue pie fruit. The taste just gets better and better, when it is completely yellow and the nubs blacken, the texture is softer and gooey, but it is still ...delicious. #rollinia #tropicalfruit #annonaceae

06.01.2022 This 38 year old Jaboticaba tree was one of the first fruit trees planted out after our nursery began back in 1980. They fruit 3 or 4 times a year and require minimal maintenance in our original food forest orchard. A little hint from Carla - collected the pulp and then put aside and dry the skin which becomes an anti-oxidant rich tea (just add hot water). ... 02.01.2022 Nothing quite like a tasty wine grape straight off the vine, mate. Full of anti-oxidants and flavour. My nephew Omar rated this Chambourcin as the best tasting grape fruiting in the orchard. This is a French Hybrid red wine grape which is resistant to many fungal diseases especially downy mildew, so ideal for this type of wet season we are experiencing right now in Kyogle.... You can grow them on a trellis like we have here or get creative and grow them over a car port or somewhere that creates shade in summer and let's the light through in the winter months when the leaves drop. Although this variety is traditionally a wine grape, they are delicious picked directly from the vine and eaten as is. Have an awesome Sunday plant people! - Paul #chambourcin #grapes #daleysfruit
