07.01.2022 We all love the excess citrus and other fruits that become available during winter but think twice before you give them away, take them to work, send them wit...h your kids to school, or trade them online. If your home is located inside the Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) Quarantine Area (incorporating Dalkeith, and parts of Claremont and Nedlands), you cannot move home-grown Qfly host fruit out of this area. Qfly breeds in backyard favourite fruits including citrus, avocado, mango and passionfruit and fruiting vegetables including tomato, capsicum and chillies. So remember: only take store-bought fruit out of the Quarantine Area; pick your ripe and ripening fruit; if you cannot eat it all, get cooking! See requirements on how to dispose of fruit on our website. Your actions will help us eradicate this serious pest, one of the world’s worst fruit pests, and prevent its spread.
