17.01.2022 Graziers attended a recent field day in the very south west corner of our catchment to learn about the techniques used on our demonstration site for gully and scald rehabilitation. The project wrapping up this month was made possible from a Community Sustainability Action grant for Environmental Conservation, which provided a demonstration site at Ulcanbah Station south of Lake Buchanan. With up to 70 mm of rain falling on the weekend prior to the field day, attendees witne...ssed firsthand how to rehydrate the landscape with the techniques used. Knowledge was provided on contour ripping, the use of wire netting weirs, reshaping gully heads and capturing rainfall into scalded areas with shallow-water pondage, pitting and scalloping. The recent rain had freshened the growth of the seeded areas and it was wonderful to see the results growing in front of our eyes. Many thanks to the hosts, the Hollingsworth’s at Ulcanbah Station. Your time and dedication to the project through these dry years has been admirable.
