25.01.2022 1st October ~ Saint Thérèse of Lisieux A blessing to begin this new month from St Thérèse whose feast we celebrate today. Happy day to all our Oblates and frie...nds who bear Therese's name and have special devotion to her. "May today there be peace within you. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us." ~ Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

24.01.2022 Christian discipleship asks for both intimacy with Jesus and attention to what he taught: personal piety and social justice, firm loyalty to one’s own ecclesial family and the capacity to also embrace all others of sincere heart as one’s faith family.

21.01.2022 First Week of Advent Today is quite a day! We farewell November, spring and the liturgical year...and perhaps take a deep breath before we embark on all that D...ecember holds. But, time enough for that deep breath tomorrow! Today, in the spirit of Thanksgiving which we celebrated last Thursday, our post is a photo that arrived in my inbox yesterday which captures the spirit of Advent and the summer to come. It's a purple crowned lorikeet enjoying some beautiful flowering gums and gumnuts. Goodbye spring, welcome summer and Advent blessings on the week ahead! Thanks to Rob McLean for this great photo. 21.01.2022 You may not be able to control everything, but you are loved by the One who is.

19.01.2022 Today is the feast day of St. Elizabeth, the mother of John Baptist who baptised Jesus. According to the Gospel of Luke, Elizabeth had lived a blameless life wi...th her husband in Judea. Having reached an advanced age with her prayers for a son unanswered, she thought that her barrenness was a reproach. One day, while Zachary was serving in the temple, the Angel Gabriel appeared and announced that a son would be born to Elizabeth. It was in the sixth month of her pregnancy that the Virgin Mary came to visit her. The Virgin Mary, eager to share in Elizabeth’s happiness and to confide that she too would bear a child, travelled from Nazareth. On Mary’s arrival, she was amazed when Elizabeth, having foreseen knowledge, greeted her as mother of my Lord. Elizabeth said: Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And how have I deserved that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, the moment that the sound of thy greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leapt for joy. And blessed is she who has believed, because the things promised her by the Lord shall be accomplished. Saint Elizabeth pray for us. See more

16.01.2022 I place on the altar of dawn: The quiet loyalty of breath, The tent of thought where I shelter, Waves of desire I am shore to And all beauty drawn to the eye.... May my mind come alive today To the invisible geography That invites me to new frontiers, To break the dead shell of yesterdays, To risk being disturbed and changed. May I have the courage today To live the life that I would love, To postpone my dream no longer But do at last what I came here for And waste my heart on fear no more. 14.01.2022 Notice when Jesus points out sin he doesn’t point to where we are weak and defeated; rather he points to where we are strong, arrogant, indifferent, and judgmen...tal. Search the Gospels and ask this question: On whom is Jesus hardest? The answer is clear: Jesus is hardest on those who are strong, judgmental, and have no feeling for those who are enduring the storm. See more

14.01.2022 May God bless you in times of insensitivity. When you become aware of your lack of attention and thought for those who call out to you, may you be blessed with the wisdom to discern and recognize the thoughts that preoccupy you, the courage to examine them and the grace to address them. Through this inner journey may you return then to being a compassionate presence to God's people. ... May our Gracious God bless you with self-knowledge. --Maxine Shonk, OP

13.01.2022 We live in too much fear of God, trusting too little that God understands and accepts us as we are, with all our adolescent mistakes, betrayals and weaknesses.

13.01.2022 May you find blessing when you experience burnout and all your resources seem to be used up and your reserves depleted. 13.01.2022 Today is the 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees For 2020, Pope Francis has chosen the theme Forced like Jesus Christ to flee, with a focus on the need f...or the pastoral care of internally displaced persons. His constant refrain is a call to welcome, protect, promote and integrate migrants and refugees into our society. Today, we join with him in praying for all people who are internally displaced and those who are experiencing further peril and marginalisation due to COVID-19. Good and gracious God, We pray for all people who are migrating particularly those who are forced from their homes or separated from their families due to threats of violence and persecution. We ask that you protect and keep them safe. Although we come from different countries, and have our origins in different cultures, we were created by you, and made in your image and therefore share an inalienable dignity that is deserving of respect. Lord we ask that you give us the strength to defend those who are marginalized, to give aid to those in need, to come to the defense of those who are poor or vulnerable, and to welcome those who are on the move into our homes and into our hearts. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen Pope Francis' message for this day can be read here: http://www.vatican.va//papa-francesco_20200513_world-migra

At those times may you sense God standing beside you, longing for your happiness and gently nudging you toward your truth. May you enter the place within you that hears this God and leads you to that deep-down knowing even in the midst of uncertainty. ... May the Voice of God lead you and bless you. --Maxine Shonk, OP

11.01.2022 Prayer is most important and most powerful precisely when we feel it is most hopeless and we are most helpless. Why is this true? It’s true because it’s only ...when we are finally empty of ourselves, empty of our own plans and our own strength that we’re in fact ready to let God’s vision and strength flow into the world through us. 07.01.2022 First Sunday of Advent...O Come! Happy Advent to all our Oblates and Facebook friends! May this most beautiful season fill your hearts with the HOPE and JOY of... the coming of our Emmanuel. I am reflecting this morning on that wonderful word, HOPE! JOY too and that will increase as Advent unfolds, but HOPE, well that lies at the heart of our lives and living...or you could say, at the heart of our reason to keep living no matter what life throws at us. We hope...and we keep hoping... An anonymous source quoted by Sr. Stan of Dublin offers: 'When the world says, ‘Give up,’ Hope whispers, ‘Try it one more time.’ Hope is where we are as Advent begins." So, as we begin, may HOPE rise boldly and shine brightly in our hearts! Whatever "it" is in our lives, let's try it one more time...with the hope and promise of the God who comes. Sr Hildegard's reflections on today's Readings can be found here: https://www.jamberooabbey.org.au//2020/11/Lectio5-29.1120- Image ~our first candle of Advent HOPE is lit at Vigils this morning!

May you hear God's words to you: "Who you are in this moment is enough. Let me love you as you are." May this forgiving God be with you in all your relationships and in each of your endeavors, knowing that the best reason to forgive is having been forgiven. ... May you be blessed with the Spirit of Forgiveness. --Maxine Shonk, OP

God’s saving activity in Christ reaches so deep that it saves creation itself the oceans, the mountains, the soil that grows our food, the desert sands, and the earth itself. 03.01.2022 With thanks to Mystic Prayers, the bee, the flower and St Francis de Sales for this touch of beauty, of service and of God...

03.01.2022 BE A REAL FRIEND "True friendships are lasting because true love is eternal. A friendship in which heart speaks to heart is a gift from God, and no gift that co...mes from God is temporary or occasional. All that comes from God participates in God’s eternal life. Love between people, when given by God, is stronger than death. In this sense, true friendships continue beyond the boundary of death. When you have loved deeply that love can grow even stronger after the death of the person you love. This is the core message of Jesus. When Jesus died, the disciples’ friendship with him did not diminish. On the contrary, it grew. This is what the sending of the Spirit was all about. The Spirit of Jesus made Jesus’ friendship with his disciples everlasting, stronger, and more intimate than before his death. That is what Paul experienced when he said, It is no longer I, but Christ living in me (Galatians 2:20). You have to trust that every true friendship has no end, that a communion of saints exists among all those, living and dead, who have truly loved God and one another. You know from experience how real this is. Those you have loved deeply and who have died live on in you, not just as memories but as real presences. Dare to love and be a real friend. The love you give and receive is a reality that will lead you closer and closer to God as well as to those whom God has given you to love." - Henri Nouwen * * * Want more than a quote? 02.01.2022 Each year as we prepare to enter Advent, that most beautiful season of hope and promise, this little verse from Jan Richardson is etched on our FB page and in o...ur hearts... "The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before. It is not possible to keep it from coming, because it will. That's just how Advent works. What is possible is not to see it, to miss it, to turn just as it brushes past you. And you begin to grasp what it was you missed, like Moses in the cleft of the rock, watching God's hindquarters fade in the distance. So stay. Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running. For rushing. For worrying. For pushing. For now, stay. Wait. Something is on the horizon." ~ from Night Visions by Jan Richardson Blessings on this vigil of Advent...let us pray for one another that we will be able to "stay", "sit", "wonder" with our Advent horizon.
