16.01.2022 A voice in the Upper House for SA firearms owners? SHOOTERS Union South Australia state president Peter Heggie has been very active on behalf of shooters in the... state over the past few years. A recurring issue he has come across time and time again is lack of political support in South Australia to get motions into the Upper House to push for the changes that are needed for law-abiding firearms users. This is one of the reasons Peter has decided that it is his intention to run for election in March 2022 for the Liberal Democratic Party for the Upper House in South Australia. If you know or have met Peter, then you will know it is not in his nature to give up or backflip on anything, no matter how hard it gets. Shooters Union’s national president Graham Park has compared Peter to a bulldog with a bone who just won’t give up, on more than one occasion. Peter said he hadn’t thought he’d need to enter politics, but he simply cannot see any other way to make changes. If you can’t get the support from MPs in the state, then the only answer is to get into the lion’s den and fight from the inside, he said. At the moment our Government is full of people who are totally out of touch with the people in SA and do not see or care about the struggles people have to go through every day, our beautiful state is slowly being driven into the ground. Events are being lost to other states, businesses are dying due to red tape, Police are now making laws up when they should be just upholding the law." The current governments attitude is to waste money and not listen to the people who voted them in." People have a right to live their life as they see fit with minimal government interference. We are adults, yet our government is treating us like children telling us what we can and can’t do, and personally I am tired of this. To help fight for a fair go, the LDP and Peter need help from firearms owners as soon as possible! They need to re-register the party before they can run for 2022 elections, which requires a number of people to become members of LDP (No cost) and to sign a form, so these can be submitted to the state electoral commission to re-register the party in South Australia. "We would ask that any firearms owner calls into The Gunnery, 51 Beach Road, Christies Beach to fill out the required form so they can get things moving." (The form needs to be the original, so they can't be emailed out) Peter said "As most firearms owners would agree, to get a Pro Firearms member into the Upper House in South Australia would give firearms owners a voice to start making the much-needed changes and to block the constant oppression towards firearms owners in South Australia." Peter is not just advocating for firearms owners’ rights, but also in areas, some of which are: Business Employment/Un-Employment Issues Policing Government Spending Listening to the people of South Australia and what they want from their government We have a chance for firearms owners to really get their voices heard, so it’s time to get up and give a hand - and it doesn’t cost you anything apart from a little time to complete a form.
