25.01.2022 Recent months, recent travels. Photos - visual diary. Camera - pen. Writing and photography can feel the same.
24.01.2022 Colours in Broome have been great lately. Seasons changing. The transition from wet season to dry season is quite rapid.
24.01.2022 Mangrove in Roebuck Bay Broome. Another striking sunset. November, hot days, strong westerlies & hopefully an early rain.
24.01.2022 The Kimberley Represented repetitively by superficial icons, such as camels on Cable Beach, frangipani flowers, pearls etc. But theres a gritty reality to the landscape & its people. Its rugged, isolated and dangerous. Not what the tourist brochures promote. But beautiful as well.
23.01.2022 Soft Sunset Colours - Roebuck Bay Broome. Best time of day to be outside.
23.01.2022 Tonight - Sunset on the Broome Coast. A lot of colour. The wattle can grow anywhere.
23.01.2022 Broome Foggy Mornings - Theres been a few lately. They add a layer of mystique to a landscape thats already striking. 6 am this morning - Relative Humidity was at 100%. Heres a few photos from today and some from recent years.
22.01.2022 More Rainbows & Less Storms for 2021! Metaphorically speaking that is. Happy New Year. Barred Creek, Broome of late.
22.01.2022 Thunder rolling, cooling wind & then rain. Was a beautiful afternoon in Broome today.
22.01.2022 Dinosaur Footprint - Big tides have filled this impression with sand. The Kimberley Night Sky looking great now that the dry season has arrived. Fossilised &130 million years old. Added light to expose the print.
21.01.2022 November is usually hot in Broome. Maximum of 43.7C today at 1pm. Now thats hot! Today on the Broome coast - 32C at 6pm. Extreme heat & an extreme focal length of 8mm - Fisheye lenses can be fun.
20.01.2022 World Turtle Day Roebuck Bay - Broome. Caught between the huge tides. Info @ American Tortoise Rescue. A nonprofit organization established in 1990 for the protection of all species of tortoise and turtle, is sponsoring its 20th annual World Turtle Day on May 23, 2010. The day was created as an annual observance to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world.
20.01.2022 Things that Wash Up Vast expanses of Roebuck Bay and Cable Beach, Broome.
19.01.2022 January in Broome - Can be hit and miss with rain. Humid & Green.
18.01.2022 Kimberley Light Shining a bit extra lately. Photographing what I love. The places and the people.
18.01.2022 Now that the tourists arent here because of Covid the giant lizards of Cable Beach have returned. Note the scale - Human footprints to the size of the animal.
17.01.2022 Dinosaurs & Stars Clean air and away from the light pollution of town, the Kimberley Night Sky has to be seen to be believed. Dinosaur footprints are ubiquitous on the Broome sandstone coast which largely has been shaped by these huge creatures 130 million years ago. Here are some photos of stars & prints taken this week.

17.01.2022 Landscape & Lightning. Storm off Broome this eve. This storm just kept going. What a great performance by nature.
16.01.2022 September in the Kimberley Possibly my favourite month. Love the colours, sky, air temp & of course the people. Lately, experiencing the photographers equivalent of a writers block. Im feeling encouraged that now, of late, Ive taken a few reasonable photos. Reasonable? Its a bad thing to like your photos too much. Im the harshest critic of my own work. Need that drive.. To do better.
16.01.2022 The Fitzroy is the largest river in Western Australia (Kimberley) Quote from The Guardian - Sun 6 Sept 2020 Snaking more than 700km from the east Kimberley to meet the ocean at King Sound. In its wettest years it can carry 50 times the water of Sydney harbour. On a drying continent, that is liquid gold. But while pastoralists and mining magnates circle the pumps, traditional owners living throughout the Fitzroy River valley have issued a warning: do this wrong, and you coul...d repeat the disasters of the Murray-Darling basin. That drying, over-stressed catchment at the opposite coroner of Australia is a warning of what happens when corporate agricultural interests and partisan politics override ecosystem-wide concerns and knowledge. 14.01.2022 A Brief Account - Australian Prime Ministers & Climate Change. John Howard Speaking of Climate change, said he was agnostic and not to believe everything you see and hear. Tony Abbott - Dismissed climate change as absolute crap, Kevin Rudd - Declared climate change to be the great moral challenge of our generation. ... Julia Gillard Under attack from Abbott said, There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead Turnbull - crossed the floor in opposition to vote with Labor in support of an emissions trading. Morrison Bought a lump of coal into parliament supplied to him by the Minerals Council of Australia. He said, Dont be afraid, dont be scared. This is coal, Reads like a page from the Right Wing Handbook on How to Deal with Climate Change. A history of poor leadership and political assassination of any politician who dared to act on Climate Change. Dismissal of science and cowering to the corporations whose faceless executives wield their political power. We have a right and a responsibility to be angry. The lesson we have learnt is that we cannot rely on our government(s). Meanwhile Australia burns. Photo - Broome, dry season fires, September 2017
14.01.2022 Squeezing the most out of the Kimberley colours and life. The people and the landscape inevitably connect. A vibrant, passionate & colouful community.
14.01.2022 October Weather Colours ramp up along with the temperature. Inland, temperatures are above 40c everyday. Closer to the coast reef fish are in season and the build up to the wet season begins.
13.01.2022 Climate Strike! - An international movement. Heres Broome participating. Very impressive youth. Their optomistic & resolute faces along with their messages say it all.
13.01.2022 Ngarralja Tommy May Winner of the 2020 TELSTRA NATIONAL ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER ART AWARD (NATSIAA) Was a great trip to Fitzroy Crossing to photograph Tommy, also wearing one of his designs, a work of art himself. 11.01.2022 Broome Scenes of Late Always something to photograph. Camera in hand. Watching the weather. Usually late in the day for deeper colours, less shadow/contrast.
11.01.2022 Remember the GHOST SHIP? A Taiwanese fishing boat found drifting off the Kimberley Coast, 2003, with no one aboard. Tales of mutiny, foul play and fanciful fate were plentiful. Most likely abandoned in some kind of people smuggling activity. Sat on the shores of Roebuck Bay, Broome for some time before it was demolished and disposed. It was an ornament to the town, popular with tourists and locals alike.
11.01.2022 ULURU - I support the no climb. Australia feels just a little bit better knowing that this all stops soon. I just goes to show how ignorant we can be.

08.01.2022 Kimberley Colours & Light Good light in Broome lately. In between seasons, the humidity and high temperatures still hanging on. The dry season cant be too far away.
08.01.2022 Towards Sunset - This eve in Broome. View west. Minutes later, lightning and rain from behind. Surrounded by beautiful wet season weather atm.
07.01.2022 Kimberley Boab #4587. I never tire of photographing these beautiful trees. Tonight was meant to be about Night Sky Photography. But as I got closer to Derby town the clouds got thicker. Lots of bush fire smoke/haze as well. Well it turned out ok.
06.01.2022 80 mile Beach - WA. Flatback Turtle nesting season in the Kimberley, Western Australia. Yesterday on dusk - a dash for the dunes to either lay her eggs. Flatback turtles only nest in northern Australia and they are endemic to this part of the world. See my comment below where I have added a video of some fools recklessly driving right where this turtle beached, 15 minutes prior.
06.01.2022 Broome Coast washed clean after a good rain this morning. The colours on sunset and the clarity of air were unbelievable.
04.01.2022 Kimberley Wet Season Has begun. The landscape changes totally after rain.
03.01.2022 Broome Sandstone Coast. Colours on & after sunset lately have been extraordinary. Tonight, unusually still water. Lots of rain coming our way this week. Lets hope the Eastern & SE states get some rain soon.
02.01.2022 Great skies over the Dinosaur coast on sunset last night. A theropod footprint embedded in the Broome sandstone.
02.01.2022 Sunset Coast - Broome this eve. Hot days but beautiful evenings lately. Turtle nesting time of year. High chance of a Flatback Turtle coming ashore tonight to dig a nest and lay eggs.
02.01.2022 Dinosaurs come alive in Broome - Famous for it’s diversity of fossilized Dinosaur footprints. Broome’s amazing artist Chris Hill made these puppets for the Shinju Matsuri Float Parade. But they were out again tonight, making their presence felt on Reddell Beach, a place where the dinosaurs left their marks 130 million years ago.
01.01.2022 Scientists from all parts of the world visited Broome recently to experience the amazing Dinosaur Coast. Led by Dr Steve Salisbury & Traditional Owners, the group had the fortunate experience of viewing the fossilised footprints with amazing commentary from both the scientific and cultural perspectives. 21 different types of fossilised dinosaur footprints are found in the Broome region. Said to be the most diverse location of this kind in the world.
