22.01.2022 This is what a test boot looks like. Measure foot + reshape last + make forme then pattern + cut from leather thick enough to approximate a finished shell + cut, skive, mould, laminate counters + cut insole + customer trying it on and wiggling their foot about = finding any changes to be made. This one = prominent ankle bones necessitated cutting the topline down a fair bit. Adage measure twice and cut once is misleading when it involves the human body (except with coffins). #rollerskates #madetomeasure

16.01.2022 For lining and back seams I use my mother’s old Singer Golden Panoramic. It’s a sturdy beast, and with 90/14 leather needles and the foot pressure cranked as high as possible, it sews nicely. I’m hand winding the balance wheel though, the pedal electrics died a while ago.
