10.01.2022 So I've been asked to look after some papers and documents. The most interesting items are two Kwong family Jiapu. Most likely they were written by Kwong Sue Duk himself. They need a bit of protection so eventually Google told me about "phase boxes". Grabbed some locally procured craft material and fairly soon I was happy with the results. Then happened to bump into the only other person in the world I know of who would know what a phase box is. Damped my enthusiasm by telling me I really need to use archival grade box board, not cardboard from Officeworks. Sigh. Thanks for the expert advice Bronwyn Dunnn but maybe that's the next "phase".;-)
08.01.2022 In case you're unfamiliar with this ABC program, a panel of marketing professionals moderated by a comedian dig inside current marketing and communication activities. This episode has a segment on genetic DNA testing and Ancestry. Interesting perspectives but maybe you already knew this. At least I hope you do. And yes, I have tested already.
08.01.2022 I came across a letter in the National Archives of Australia (NAA) at Sydney. In 1933 one of Kwong Sue Duk's sons, Leslie Kwong, requests permission for one of his step-mothers to come to Australia. This letter refers to an earlier incident where she was part of KSD's family which visited China in 1907-1908. The CEDT's for this trip are in the archives and I had accessed them previously. I had noticed that some of these were replacements although the cause was not mentioned. ...Leslie's 1933 letter states that the original CEDTs of 1907 were lost in China due to banditry. Moreover, the case had been previously explained in correspondence to the Department of Home Affairs in Melbourne. A file reference for this correspondence was given but this appears to be an old system reference which can't be found at this time. Would have been lovely to have this account. If anyone in family has any stories on this incident, or if you happen to be guru on old file reference systems in the NAA in Melbourne: speak up!
04.01.2022 This copy of the long Kwong Sue Duk photo is the in National Archives of Australia in Sydney. It's part of Kwang Lim Kwong's application to bring his wife and children to visit Australia. K.L. Kwong was the manager of the Chinese Soccer Football Team on their 1927 tour of Australia. (no link - not digitised yet) Trove has some more newspaper reports of the tour: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article16379251

02.01.2022 Aside from being of interest to my friends in faith, can my fellow genealogists note the importance of the contextual meaning place of birth and lineage and it's significance to the story that you thought you knew. Merry Christmas and Happy Researching.
