09.01.2022 Welcome! My name is Jake Burden I am the creator of Ballet Brothers. My mission for this organisation is to support and encourage all boys who love to dance. T...he reasons behind starting this page is to help boys who dance not to feel alone, to create a support network for each other and to provide a way for male dancers to share experiences and wisdom with each other. Many things are in planning, firstly a website that is near to completion that will share all upcoming information including stories from male dancers about their individual journeys and details about future workshops. But firstly I’d like to introduce myself and start with some of my story in the hopes that it helps you to not feel alone and inspire others to share their stories. Throughout my life as a dancer I have personally experienced quite a lot of negative hate towards boys/men who dance. In the following few weeks I plan to share stories from boys and men who have struggled growing up as a male dancer. I started training at the age of 9 as I had been intrigued about Dance. Very quickly I developed a passion and the need to dance has stayed with me ever since. The moment people found out I danced the bullying began but not once did I think that I was going to quit to fit in. The bullying eventually got quite severe especially when I started to attend high school. I was punched, kicked, strangled, locked in lockers and even kicked off the bus 20 minutes away from my home. Throughout all of this I still didn’t want to quit I had a passion and a dream so thankfully my parents agreed to let me leave school and go to a professional dance boarding school. I attend two professional dance schools for six years before accepting a job in Germany. During my career I had the greatest pleasure of dancing for four different companies, traveling the world and performing for two royal families. All of this would not have been possible without my determination and the support of my amazing parents...so I plead with parents please support your boys it will make a difference. The bullying and negative stigma of being a male dancer is always present somewhere from someone but you can’t let it affect your dream. I even feel now when I say I’m a dance teacher people don’t know how to react. These are some of the reasons why I feel we need to support each other and help educate the ‘non dancers’ to understand all the priceless life lessons we learn from dancing. Ballet Brothers will always be here to give advice,unite boys and show everyone Boys dance too! Thank you for taking the time to read this please like and share so we can support boys worldwide.
