20.01.2022 I got to meet Beau and share a nice moment with him. He’s a therapy horse and a healing presence for many. He was very calm and welcoming and got as close as he... could. Animals have so much to teach and share with us if we listen. Thanks for inviting me Sam Slodowitz, he’s such a special one #therapyhorse #healingmoment #horsemedicine #soundhealing #handpan #healing #nature See more
See more

18.01.2022 Some people want a confident horse yet are nervous in the saddle An athletic one, yet, fail to visit a gym themselves A well rounded one, yet won't take a lesso...n A "dead broke" one, yet rides only on the weekends A soft round horse, but yet sits rigid in the saddle A forgiving, trusting horse, but punishes first, and asks questions later. Imagine if we were all the types of riders out horses wanted us to be. If we were all confident, athletic, well rounded, soft, patient and consistent riders? It's a journey. A dance between two species. Have conversations, not fights. Check in with them, give them credit, give them dignity, give them time, and above all else, give them love. It's not so much about learning to speak their language, it's about quieting down and learning to listen. -Sarah Kuz Thank you @LivFreePhotographyy for the great shot and Charmers for the magical ride in the snow.

16.01.2022 I just wanted to comment on the recent article in Eurodressage by Adriane Alvord The Pain that Lives Behind the Barn Door referring to the tragic death of Ter...esa Butta in the US. We have lost three professional riders/trainers in the last three-month and many more I know who were contemplating to take the same action. We can’t ignore this anymore and something needs to change. I have been involved in the equestrian industry as a professional rider, a trainer and a mindset coach. I know from my own experience what it is like to work your butt off just to have a chance to get a ride, to get to that competition where you can prove yourself to start your career. I know what it is like to work long hours, muck out stables and ride 10 horses per day, fall asleep with still your riding boots on and to drag yourself out of bed the next morning to do it all again. I have experienced the pressure where trying your hardest is simply not good enough, where being on that roller coaster where one minute you give it all you can and the next you just want to lie down and give up. It’s a constant up and down and especially for our younger riders it’s a way of life that cannot be sustained, no matter how tough you are! I also know what it is like to try and make a living, doing what you love doing only to find that sometimes it seems simply impossible. The constant worry about money, the pressure to yet again sell a horse and loose (money only to search for that special horse that will break your bank but that keeps your dreams alive. I know how riders and coaches feel when they sell their soul just to please. I know the inner struggle when you know what you should be doing but you decide otherwise and instead do what others expect of you. The strongest don’t survive; they simply learn to hide; hiding behind a mask that says, I am ok. But are they? I know there were plenty of times I used that sentence only to walk away and cry. I know what it feels like when you drive down the road and the next tree smiles at you...... Because I have been there, I remember these feelings and I recognize those thoughts, I am also able to feel the pain of others. Now working as a mindset coach, I am constantly surprised of who opens-up to me. Often, they are riders, coaches, judges, parents that I have first met through their mask. People I would have described as strong, confident role models to others. The ones you wouldn’t approach and offer a hug. As a sport we must change the way we support our people. It is not only the riders who need support it is everyone from coaches, trainers, grooms and judges. Everyone is looking for recognition, a desire to fit in and be accepted. An opportunity to proof themselves and make their dreams come true. The equestrian sport is such an unforgiving environment. We are quick to tear each other down, especially in dressage. There is always a different or a better way to train and someone else is always wrong. Unless we start to change, we will have more tragic and senseless deaths in our midst. It is time that we learn to be kinder to ourselves and to others around us. And most of all we have to start supporting each other. If we wait for people to reach out for help it is too late. Most of the time it is a family member, a friend or a concerned coach who rings me up and asks for help on behalf of someone else. What can we do? It is our federation and Riding/Pony Clubs who need to make the first step. Let’s bring more mindset coaches into our clubs and squads who look after the emotional wellbeing of our members. We need to support our riders, coaches and officials in the situations when the stress is high. At competitions, clinics, selection events...... Our young riders need to learn important life skills as well as important riding skills. Let us teach them in their younger years, before the pressure is on how to deal with stress and whom to ask for help. Learning that asking for help resembles strength instead of weakness is one of the greatest lessons they can learn. Get to know your friends beyond the mask. Don’t be buffed off by a shallow I am ok. Make time to ask some deeper questions, give the gift of a hug and create a safe place for someone to break down and cry if that is what they need. Pick up the phone and ring someone else if you don’t know how to help. Paying attention can save a life. What I have learned is that my head is not my friend, instead it often tried to talk me into things, tried to reason with me. It created stories that were never true. Whenever I resisted listening to my head, I also gave my heart a chance. It is my heart that knew the truth, it is my heart that found the way forward and that gave me courage to go on when my head was telling me to lie down. So, if you are the one who is breaking apart, know that there is a tomorrow. Give tomorrow a chance and listen to your heart, it is there where you will find the courage to take just one more step.

15.01.2022 Amidst this craziness, I find meditations helpful. There are so many ways to go about it, but I've done this one many times. You basically go in to your imagination, connect with a horse, and go on a short adventure together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCInS2KOxXA

13.01.2022 TALKING ABOUT HORSES with Classical Equitation by Anja Beran (Episode 50)
11.01.2022 Current German dressage coach Monica Theordorescu tells us: There is no secret, it is just correct training and riding. For me there is no ‘modern’ or ‘classic...al’ riding, there is good or bad riding, correct riding. That’s what I try to tell everybody, don’t go crazy and say, ‘we had that and it didn’t work’. One of the many things my father (the late Georg Theodorescu) said was every exaggeration is wrong that I use as a principle, it’s probably for life also, but for sure it is true for the horses. Only just leaving them in the field and riding long and deep doesn’t get you anywhere, but also asking too much, too hard training, that is absolutely wrong. https://www.horsemagazine.com//monica-theodorescu-looks-b/ See more
11.01.2022 Escada working out where to go in the water for Ingrid Klimke: I was having trouble to stay on, I was seeing the water and me falling into it, she was waiting,... and she just jumped out, she was so good. I want this personality. My father always said, the horse must be between a genius and a little bit crazy having a dressage horse who is full of himself, having the personality which really wants to do it. It shouldn’t be a horse that is forced to do it, who has given up thinking, I don’t want this in dressage either. http://www.horsemagazine.com//the-classical-principles-li/ And it ended well, on the podium, Gold Medal team members. 10.01.2022 Hi everyone, If you have a minute, it'd be awesome if you could complete this survey. It's connected to w research project I've been involved in, relating to human/ animal connections (specifically during this pandemic). It'd be awesome to get this spread far and wide!! We're hoping for at least 100 responses, hopefully many more.... Happy to answer any qs you might have about it, but it's pretty self- explanatory. Many thanks! https://uniofsunshinecoast.syd1.qualtrics.com//SV_bw5EneCx
08.01.2022 There are four problems in working with equine behaviour that commonly cause issues for the equine. Number four Not enough time - So often people tell me they d...on't have enough time to do the training fully and create the foundations that the equines truly deserves. Taking the time to do the work thoroughly and slowly at the animal’s pace requires us to enjoy the journey but also see the value in creating a relationship rather than just working on behaviour. Problem isn't really the people don't have enough time is that they don't prioritise taking the time to build a relationship over reaching the goal as fast as possible. In essence people forget to value the journey. See more
07.01.2022 Good Breathing Leads to Good Work. Caption: "Manolo often says that when you ride, you should think of your legs as your arms around a loved one. You embrace yo...ur horse gently and you can feel his breath and his heartbeat and that tells you how relaxed and focus he is, or how anxious, distressed or uncomfortable. It is a gentle reminder to the rider that he is riding a living being." "Riders very rarely concentrate on their breathing, and they often don’t think about how the horse is breathing, either. The rider must learn to breathe deeply, with softness in the air. We must also listen to, and feel the horse’s breathing. A young horse will often breathe too fast, because he may be a little tense about what is expected, and he is not yet completely fit. It is important to give a young horse plenty of breaks to recover his breath. It is terrible when the horse is taking stiff, frightened breaths. He cannot relax and become soft and attentive to what is being asked of him; he cannot discover enjoyment in his work. A rider can feel the horse’s ribcage between his/her legs, opening and closing with each breath, feel the horse’s heart beating softly or like a hammer. Because of this we should not tighten our girths too strongly, or for that matter the noseband or flash. We should make every effort to make the horse comfortable. Imagine having a belt on that is very tight and having to run, do sit ups, etc..how long would you be able to keep it up? Proper breathing encourages athleticism and mental concentration because it helps supply oxygen to the muscles and brain. All athletes work on their breathing. Don’t forget that your horse is an athlete, too. It is most important to be soft, to be natural. Be careful never to instill fear in the horse, so that his natural breathing will develop and he will never learn to shallow breath or simply block his breath altogether. By encouraging the horse’s softness, and following the young horse’s natural movement, rather than enforcing unnatural movement, or stiffening or stopping the horse’s movement, we will help the horse develop his natural breathing."
