25.01.2022 It's never been more important for parents & students to become as informed as they possibly can to avoid the damage that's being done to dance students through the worldwide epidemics of extreme training, over-training, over-stretching, unqualified teachers and the global sexualisation of dance students. "Look Before You Leap" pulls back the curtain and brings information together from dance professionals and dance/medicine experts. You will be shocked when you discover wha...t's behind the curtain. But knowledge is power this knowledge will help you to guide your child on a safe, happy and successful dance journey NOW AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER https://www.dancesuccess.org/
25.01.2022 Facebook think the photo is inappropriate to be advertised in the post ! It may get taken down THAT SAYS A LOT ! Dance parents - THE GLOBAL HYPER SEXUALISATION OF YOUNG DANCE STUDENTS HAS TO STOP.... The teacher has ordered the costumes for the competition team. When you see the costume you get a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. You know it's not what you want to see your child wearing out there onstage in front of a mixed audience What will your family say? But you think that because you've seen other dance groups wearing similar costumes that it must be what they have to wear So you try to justify the age inappropriate costume to yourself, and your family You know deep down that it's going to be embarrassing for your child's family members when they come to watch. Anyway you'd be wasting your time voicing your opinion you'd only get shot down in flames by the teacher You're too scared to speak up and just go along with it Or are you ok to have your young child out there onstage in front of a mixed audience in such an age inappropriate costume? If your answer is 'yes' then we have an even bigger problem than we thought. " The global sexualisation of young dance students Research supports that sexualised dance routines for pre-pubescent girls are age-inappropriate and potentially harmful and should therefore not be included in children’s dance performances." (Journal for Physical Sport Educators, 29 August 2018) This article below was written 10 years ago and nothing has changed. The children were aged between 7 and 9 years Together with colleagues worldwide, we fail to understand why teachers and parents put young dance students out there onstage dressed like strippers Before you comment please read the article, and know that it a world wide opinion and not just mine. 19.01.2022 Your child's been nagging you to learn dancing Her friends at school go to the local dance studio You finally say 'Yes' and there is much excitement in your home, BUT... How do you know where to send her/him? After all, you know that just like in any business, there are good, and 'not so good' Do you send her/him to the same one her friends go to? What if it's no good? You've heard about all the competitions and costumes - it sounds expensive. You've learnt singing yourself and know how to find a qualified singing teacher But how do you know if a dance teacher is qualified? You know that a lot of damage can be done to your voice if the teacher is unqualified and inexperienced So you guess a lot of damage can be done to a child's body too You are right! There has been a lot written about the damage that is done to young dance students by unqualified, unsupervised teachers. Reputable organisations advise parents to steer clear of studios who employ senior students to teach classes (unsupervised by a qualified teacher). What qualifications and experience should a dance teacher have? After all you don't want to pay dance fees to an unqualified teacher who may cause damage and not teach properly The answer is here in this book: "Look Before You Leap" - Steps to Your Child's Greatest Success in Dance The 190 page complete guide to your child's dance education is launching soon. Your'e invited to Pre-Order now at https://www.dancesuccess.org/

Are you aware that some forms of stretching are very dangerous? Children are suffering serious and permanent injuries from dangerous forms of stretching we don't see them on instagram! They get swept under the carpet If you've already made up your mind that you know everything about dance tuition then this is not for you A thorough and comprehensive road map for parents to help your child to achieve a safe, happy dance journey LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP Steps to Your Child's Greatest Success in Dance Pulling Back the Curtain on the Dance Industry PRE-ORDER is now available at http://www.dancesuccess.org
18.01.2022 PRE ORDER the much anticipated, controversial book prior to worldwide launch https://www.dancesuccess.org/ She was 7 years of age at the time of her injury at... a recreational jazz dance class. Her teacher was assisting her by placing pressure and repositioning her legs to achieve a further split (forced flexion) when she felt a lot of pain in her hip. When she left the class she was visibly in pain and upset. Two days post seeing a doctor for limping and pain in her hip, her condition worsened, she developed weakness in the legs until she was unable to walk. She did not walk again for three and a half weeks. She was hospitalised and diagnosed with Functional Neurological Dysfunction. Her symptoms included: tics, tremors, paralysis, severe limb weakness, severe fatigue and pain. The physical and psychological impact of this technique on this young child was traumatic and she required intensive physiotherapy and psychology sessions to assist in her recovery. Studies have identified that people with Functional Neurological Dysfunction have a higher level of childhood stressors such as emotional neglect, sexual abuse and physical abuse compared to controls (Ludwig et al., 2018)." This is a horrifying, true story and is not an isolated incident. This sort of injury should never happen to dance students. Dangerous forms of stretching must be stopped. For the sake of the children I will do all I can to increase the awareness of parents and hope and pray that the teachers who share my concerns will join with me to spread the word and stamp out the global epidemics of dangerous teaching practices, sexualisation of dance students and unqualified teachers. I will stand up for what's right, even if I stand alone. https://www.dancesuccess.org/ Here is an extract from my book 'LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP" for those who have sought to defend themselves - some who would obviously like to keep these serious issues swept under the carpet, and others who wasted their time sending vicious personal messages to me. "We take our hats off to the dedicated, hard working, expert dance professionals whom we wish parents can find in the midst of the social media spin" "Educators, dance/science experts and medical professionals share my concern regarding how unethically young dancers are being trained in SOME studios, though we believe the majority of teachers are well-intentioned." "This book is not about the highly esteemed establishments, which are often attached to ballet or dance companies (or the schools that feed into them). It's not about any particular type of studio or training. It is about the worldwide global issues in the dance industry that are affecting children who learn dancing." 14.01.2022 VAGANOVA BALLET ACADEMY. WHAT IS THE REASON FOR SUCH GREATNESS? The Vaganova Academy of St. Petersburg is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious ballet school...s in the world; the school that surely more than all the others, has produced an innumerable quantity of ballet stars that have galvanized audiences all over the world, spreading and making loved the art of classical ballet even to the least involved. Many people in different interviews often ask me : But what is so great about? What is the secret of success? Why don't most other schools have such a reputation? The most skeptical and envious are used to attributing all this only to the great tradition and history but the facts still speak today. In fact, dancers of the caliber of the Mariinsky Theater or Bolshoi educated in this school do not meet in the world with the same frequency, despite being artists of great qualities. The mistake that in my opinion is made in most ballet Academies or in other simple schools, is that of not following first of all, a precise and unique methodology in the school. In fact, teachers often teach in different ways, as they think most appropriate without sticking to a specific program. The important thing is just to "do it " without a strictly pre-established dogma. Another common mistake is to change the teacher every year without giving the possibility to follow a precise line of teaching to the teacher himself and confusing the students who find themselves lost in front of a different style and conceptions every year. All the more so if each teacher follows his own "methodology". With all this I certainly do not want to say that experimenting with new techniques or ways to perfect movements is wrong, indeed, it is welcome! Provided, however, that everything is aimed at achieving the program to follow. Our Academy follows the methodology of A. Vaganova who, as demonstrated over the years, proves to be the most complete and effective. So, dear teachers, try to take note of it once and for all and try to finalize your "experiments" to the main program. Only in this way will you obtain a satisfactory result !!! Good job to everyone! 14.01.2022 There's one thing in particular that I've learnt from the 56 years that I've been involved in dance. No, I'm not 110 years old. I started dancing aged 4 1/2. 13.01.2022 WHAT IS REALLY THE BORDER BETWEEN SEVERITY AND OFFENSE BY THE BALLET TEACHER ? In recent times, tremendous cases of rudeness, outrage and even lethal cases by t...hugs students towards teachers have been increasingly found. These horrible situations make us increasingly regret the times of demanding and severe teachers whom we were so afraid of and from whom we were lucky enough to be educated. The exaggerated democracy and the too many rights and few obligations of the pupils that are often imposed by today's society have certainly been deleterious for school education. But What is really the border between severity and offense? If we consider the ballet education, we are often faced with very demanding teachers who, for their severity, are often judged unjustly ruthlessly violating student rights. But often we also find teachers no professionals who, by offending and humiliating the unfortunate students, try to vent their hatred and frustrations. It is precisely at this point that the professionalism of the teacher must be examined. If in fact the teaching method gives its results, it surely means that the teacher is a good professional and therefore "the end justifies the means". With my personal experience, I am of the opinion that the student is always very sensitive to the situation and perfectly understands if the teacher is ruthless because he loves the student and wants to achieve the result or is only subject to constant humiliation by an incompetent and frustrated person. The teacher has a duty to keep the situation absolutely in hand, being severe but also certainly the duty to understand the psychology and essence of each student individually. Each of us has its own personality to take into account. There are those who need a scolding (but then words of comfort especially if they work hard ) but there are those who assimilate only if the teacher proves meek. This too up to a certain point of course. The teacher's talent lies precisely in sifting through the situation and in understanding how one must behave with each one to obtain the result. Offenses and humiliations bring nothing but hatred on the part of the students towards this profession, often with dramatic endings. The teacher's task is very difficult and critical. We try to do it in the best way, especially by loving our students and trying to start them up to the profession and their future life as their own children. It's our life mission! 11.01.2022 THIS IS WRONG Dance parents, I hear it all the time a teacher has told you your 7 year child is a very talented 'star'... you're so proud you can't wait to get home to tell your family and friends You had to enrol her in 8 classes a week because the teacher said if you don't, she'll be 'missing out' The teacher wants her in all the competition teams too - that's more $$$ - but you can't say 'no' After a while you start hiding the dance costs from your partner and wonder where you're going to find the money to keep going after a year your child is worn out and has no time to play with friends and she's always tired she gets sick a lot and has had some injuries You're worn out and the family time is zero but if you try to cut down on dance classes you get tantrums from your child AND the studio teachers and owners you get accused of being disloyal to the studio you start asking questions Is your child really that talented ? 09.01.2022 New Netflix Movie 'Cuties' Crosses a Line by Sexualizing 11-Year-Olds People are so outraged about the film, that someone started a Change.org petition to remove Cuties from Netflix entirely. The creator of the petition wrote,... "This movie/show is disgusting as it sexualizes an ELEVEN year old for the viewing pleasure of pedophiles and also negatively influences our children! There is no need for this kind of content in that age group, especially when sex trafficking and pedophilia are so rampant!" Almost 5,000 people have signed at the time of publication. Who else feels physically sick?
09.01.2022 Every week for several years, I've heard such questions as these from dance parents. Should my daughter/son be crying from the pain at her dance class - she's ...only 9 ? Should my daughter/son be having to take paracetamol for days after her stretch class because her body is so sore? Should the teachers be pushing her legs into painful positions? Obviously parents need to be given much more information. The answers to all these questions, and many more, together with the opinions, advice and observations of dance experts worldwide can now be found in the book: 'Look Before You Leap" Your 190 page comprehensive road map to help your child achieve their greatest success in dance. 09.01.2022 This doesn't make sense Parents bend over backwards to find the best school teachers doctors, dentists, optometrists, physios etc for their kids... BUT parents send their kids to dance teachers WHO ARE NOT QUALIFIED! Experts agree that dance is probably the largest unregulated industry involving children Teachers do not need qualifications or experience to teach dance. There are no certificates required and no standardised procedures that need to be followed. ‘Joe Bloggs’, the plumber from down the road, could open a dance studio if he wanted to. He could also teach dance! Almost all industries are regulated, except dance Parents don't realise there's a worldwide epidemic of unqualified dance teachers operating everywhere Damage is being done to children by unqualified teachers and parents are being ripped off. You can find out how to find qualified teachers here I'm very excited to invite you to PRE-ORDER my book LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP Steps to Your Child's Greatest Success in Dance https://www.dancesuccess.org/
