20.01.2022 What a Weekend! I spent the last couple of days hosting the Cuban Dance workshops with Christina Monneron and Israel Ortiz-Castellanos!! Despite losing our original star instructor Piter to the SA border closures, having to find a new venue and working with Covid restrictions.......... we made it!!! I want to sincerely thank my amazing Movimiento Team, all of the wonderful students who supported the workshops and our incredible extended Cuban Salsa family from from Cairns, th...e Strictly Street Salsa crew. CommUNITY is everything to me and it’s the driving force behind hosting these events. I am grateful beyond measure to everyone who attended and added their own magic to the event. 11.01.2022 These ladies have been by my side for the longest time. Some since the beginning of my Belly Dance journey!! Over 23 years. We had this running joke when our school was called ‘Scimitar Moon’ to guess how quickly it would be mispronounced!! We had ‘Salami Moon, Skitmar Moon, Moon Dancing, Cara Moon’ you name it we’ve had it!! So even though we changed the business name our Monday performance troupe likes to call ourselves ‘Spoony Mooners’. Last night Nandita and Veronica gifted us our very own Spoony Moon matching necklaces. 10.01.2022 Oh. My. Goodness!!!! I just won second place in the Creative Arts Category for the Ausmumprenuer awards. I’m so honoured, happy, humbled and beyond grateful. Thank you to the AusMumpreneur team for creating this incredible opportunity. 2020 has been beyond hard. If you had asked me 6 months ago where I was at....... I was pretty sure Covid had destroyed my business and I wasn’t quite sure how I was coming back. But with the love and support of my students, my family and my i...ncredible husband, I’m still standing. This award is a fabulous recognition for not just me but for the arts in regional Queensland and for all of the incredible creatives I get to work with everyday!! 10.01.2022 Oooooooh it’s been a day!! So as some of you know I’m planning a workshop dance event this weekend. It’s been smoooooooth sailing......... until Queensland shut its borders to South Australia due to a Covid Outbreak. Guess where one of my star dancers was coming from...... Adelaide!!!! In this moment I knew two things: 1. The Cara that existed ten years ago would not have handled this well. 2. It’s time to pull up my big girl pants and get this sorted. ... So with a little luck and pixie dust.... Voilà!! Replacement star dancer found AND we are back in business!! Moral of the story: keep calm and carry on!! (Or dance on). Now just wish me luck negotiating to get my flight costs back........... 03.01.2022 My dear friend @kerry_spina_author_coach gave me some great advice after I was feeling particularly overwhelmed by an upcoming task. ‘Chop Wood, Carry Water’ There has been so many times, especially in event management where the task seems overwhelming. But little by little the act of doing, of expanding my skills, by being in the moment, it gets a little less chaotic. By practicing mindfulness and striving for a growth mindset the tasks become an opportunity to learn and gr...ow. Rather than moving from each event in haste and rushing to the ‘next thing to do’ I take time to acknowledge what I learned and give gratitude for that. It’s this practice that keeps me moving forward......... in the most Zen way possible..........with a tonne of Coffee

02.01.2022 It’s been a tough two weeks. I got home Monday, a fortnight ago. I was feeling really blessed. Within a week I had won silver in the Ausmumprenuer awards, celebrated my wedding anniversary, got to see my husband (which is a rare occurrence, he’s away a lot), and performed for the Wonderland crew in Port Douglas. I felt recharged and ready to jump back into my work. But when I got home I realised my Mum was really sick. Being a previous stroke survivor I was really concerned.... She was in immense pain and we were in that awkward phase where we were trying to find a diagnosis but it felt like forever and in the meantime she was in pain. Immense pain. So I slept on the couch to aide in her care, was solo parenting my four year old son, running two dance schools, supporting my Dad emotionally while we waited to find out what was wrong. I went to one of my classes and tried to pretend I was ok. I wasn’t. I was sleep deprived, strung out and worried. One of my lovely, long time students said those magical undoing words, ‘are you ok’ and it all came pouring out. It’s funny though. Old Cara would have sucked it up, remained ‘professional’, reminded myself ‘don’t show weakness’. But you know what? In that beautiful human moment, I let it out. My student provided a soft space to fall, no judgement, just two humans who’s heart connected in that moment of vulnerability. After the emotion came tumbling out of me, the old habits kicked in. I started apologising. My student said ‘do you realise how many times you’ve done this for me? Guided me through movement, through my emotions to help process my burdens and vulnerability’. I was floored! But in that moment of letting go I received the greatest of gifts. Which I never would have received if I didn’t lay my burdens down. It was a full circle moment and I’ll treasure it forever. P.S My Mum is now doing great
