21.01.2022 While the world focuses on the American election and the shit show that is Donald Trump, Queensland College of Art has consulted external auditors to cut costs due to Covid-19 reduced income. What this means is the closure of departments, Studios and redundancies. QCA has been the pinnacle of art colleges in Australia, being the oldest facility in the country. When Griffith University took over the college there was hope for the future, but also fear that it would be tun in... a numbers game and today this has confirmed many fears. Today we face another re-structure of degrees with majors being changed to minors, less hands on studio time and facilities and less professional artists passing on their knowledge to emerging artists. Another blow for the creative industries in a world focused on the moronic idea that sport should be held in a higher regard. If it wasn't hard enough to be an artist currently, you want to lead one of Australia's oldest and most reputable art colleges to slaughter, force it into the stalls and shoot it in the head with a steel pellet -just to make sure. The Queensland government should feel ashamed. Instead of building a new stadium, you should be funding the arts.
