24.01.2022 Here’s one that may interest any former service people in the Hills - Online Yoga sessions hosted by RSL Active. You need to register and you need to be a veteran (former service) but this is a great opportunity to keep fit and active during the social isolation period.
23.01.2022 Recently the committee decided to put together some care packages to send out to our members to help you get through the next few weeks as we push through to what we hope is the end of Stage 4. Some of our generous members opted to have their gifts sent on to friends or family in need and we are grateful for the opportunity to brighten a few days on their behalf. Members - the packages are on their way and we hope you enjoy. ... Remember, it's OK not to be OK right now but you are also not alone and we will get through this together. We look forward to seeing you all, in person, soon.
22.01.2022 A friendly note for our community ......

19.01.2022 Today we commemorate Vietnam Veterans' Day, on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. By the time the war had come to an end, after a decade of conflict between 1962 and 1972, of the almost 60,000 Australians who served, tragically, 521 Australians had died and 3000 were wounded. So today is a day for us to recognise all who served in Vietnam, to honour and commemorate our veterans who:... Lost their lives during battle Returned home wounded, ill or injured Lost their lives in the years since their return Still carry the physical and emotional scars of their service. We also take stock and reflect on the impact of service on our veterans' families. #LestWeForget For more information on our involvement in Vietnam, you can visit: https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au//comme/vietnam-veterans-day OR https://battleoflongtan.com/
19.01.2022 Dear Members and Friends As you would all have seen over the weekend, Premier Andrews has extended the State of Emergency for Victoria and reintroduced a number of restrictions on facilities such as ours. We had planned on reopening for a Pizza Night this coming Friday, however these announcements have forced us to re-evaluate our plans and postpone our next function just a little bit longer. Whilst we could have reduced numbers, we needed to consider the demographic of our m...embership and the heightened risk factors this brings. So instead we postpone because we care about our members and our community and we look forward to welcoming you all back when the Health Officials tell us it is safe enough to do so. A reminder, should any Veteran or their dependent need assistance during this time, please contact us on [email protected] or [email protected]
17.01.2022 75 years ago today, with just four words, Australian Prime Minister Benjamin Chifley officially announced to the nation in a radio broadcast on August 15, 1945, the war is over. Victory in the Pacific Day commemorates the end of the Second World War on August 14, 1945, when Japan accepted the terms of the unconditional surrender set by the Allied Nations. Also known as VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, it is commemorated on August 15, the day that Australian Prime Minister... Ben Chifley announced the end of the war in a radio broadcast, before the signing of the official surrender took place on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan, on September 2, 1945. It came after Victory in Europe Day which marked the formal acceptance by the Allies of Germany’s unconditional surrender on May 8 1945, bringing an end to the Second World War in Europe. VP Day meant an end to Australia’s war against Japan in the Pacific; a war that had begun half a world away in Europe that was brought close to home after Japan’s unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. #Victoriaremembers #VPDAY75
16.01.2022 Please share your photos of your Driveway at Dawn commemorations on this thread They shall grow not old As we who are left grow old Age shall not weary them... Nor the year's condemn At the going down of the sun And in the morning We will remember them Lest We Forget See more
13.01.2022 The Committee of the Dandenong Ranges RSL is extremely humbled by the generosity of our Hills Community. Despite the very trying conditions of COVID-19 Isolation our community has donated $1,162 to the 2020 ANZAC Appeal which was more than last years total and bucked the trend noted by RSL Victoria just before ANZAC Day. Your support of our, and the broader RSL's, Veterans welfare activities is very much appreciated.... A reminder to all our community, if you are a Veteran or ex-Service-person and you need support or assistance - or if you know of one, please reach out to us. With the Sub-Branch closed at this time we are contactable at [email protected] or via the "Send Message" button on our Facebook Page.
07.01.2022 So we are a third of the way through our second round of Stage 3 Lockdown - we miss seeing our friends and family down at the RSL but we need to do our best to protect those same people, many of whom are vulnerable. But we have a question for you all - how are you coping with Lockdown 2.0? It's ok not to be ok, so feel free to vent or even just strike up a conversation on our post. How are you dealing with Lockdown 2.0? Any interesting (or not) projects that are whittling awa...y the time? And don't forget also, we are here for our veterans and their families - members or not. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out by emailing [email protected] or [email protected] Stay safe, stay healthy and we will see you all soon
04.01.2022 2020 continues to surprise us with our community's generosity. The 2020 Poppy Appeal raised $960 to directly support the RSL's Welfare Programs - this exceeded last years total of $774 and is a big shot in the arm to help both your local sub-branch and the Victorian RSL to support all our ex-service community.
04.01.2022 This Remembrance Day, we invite you to reflect on the importance of family and homecoming in times of crisis.
01.01.2022 #OTD Skirmish in East Timor On the 10th of October 1999, Australian forces from 2RAR were involved in a brief skirmish with militia elements whilst serving i...n East Timor. On this day, C Coy 2RAR, with elements of Spt Coy, conducted a patrol to follow up reports of TNI and militia ill-treating the locals in the village of Motaain. During their approach into the village, 8 Pl C Coy was engaged by automatic fire from militia elements. The platoon returned fire, killing a POLRI sergeant and seriously wounding two others. The militia fled shortly after. As a result of the action, one Australian soldier, Corporal Paul Teong, 2 RAR’s lead section commander, was awarded the DSM for exemplary leadership under fire. --------------------------------------------------------------- If you spot an error, please send me a message.
