23.01.2022 Long overdue for Cairns

23.01.2022 Have your say to protect Growth for the Cairns Port Only takes a few minutes

21.01.2022 1600kms of ‘broken footpaths’.... Are they talking about the Bruce Hwy here.....?

21.01.2022 A great article in today's Courier Mail by Mike O'Connor which starts as follows: "THE Great Barrier Reef is dying, coal is finished as a fuel and no Australian... politician would ever lie under oath. True or false? If we are to believe the state government, sugar cane farmers are evil and are destroying the Reef in their pursuit of greater profits with their use of fertilisers. To counter this, new regulations are going to be introduced. These will have the handy effect of allowing the Palaszczuk government to trumpet its environmental credentials while at the same time pandering to the Greens, the latter being an article of faith held dear by Labor governments. Given this, it was intriguing to hear the head of the Australian Institute of Marine Science, Paul Hardisty, concede under questioning before an ongoing Senate inquiry that only three per cent of the Reef, the inshore reef, was affected by farm pesticides and that even that three per cent was at low to negligible risk. This in effect means that 97 per cent of the Great Barrier Reef, which lies 50km to 100km off the coast, is completely unaffected. It is also worth noting that while scientists regularly shriek warnings that the Reef is dying and in so doing damage the tourism industry, no one has bothered to measure coral growth or the lack of it for the past 15 years. Marine scientist Peter Ridd, who questioned the validity of claims made regarding the imminent death of the Reef by his peers, was sacked by James Cook University for his impertinence. James Cook has since spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of university funds pursuing him through the courts." We're counting down, meanwhile, to the Great Debate - not long now. Tune in to this page at 4.30pm on Thursday 8 October for the real facts about the GBR. 18.01.2022 Unbelievable. Townsville City Council destroying jobs and an iconic industry At a time when jobs are so scarce and important and the marine industry has had its guts kicked in with the covid crisis, this decision by Townsville Council is incredibly irresponsible....Continue reading

12.01.2022 Yet another disastrous decision from Qld premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP Her call to slam the border shut with South Australia is nothing more than a knee jerk reaction , policy on the run. This ridiculous idea from the premier has sent shockwaves throughout our entire tourism industry.... This very bad decision couldn’t have come at a worse time. Our tourism industry has just suffered the worst traditional winter tourism season ever. We were all hanging on to a glimmer of hope that a summer season may just save a few businesses from going broke and save a few jobs..... but those hopes have been snuffed out thanks to policy on the run. The hopeless call by the premier has also come at a time when Job keeper is being wound back. The only thing that has saved the industry from falling off the cliff. Austarlian travellers would all be very nervous and second guessing their plans now with the rules changing without notice. The premiers call to force Queenslanders into quarantine at their own expense when returning from South Australia is simply outrageous. If the premier wants to change the rules at short notice well then the premier needs to pick up the tab! The hypocrisy and inconsistency with the premiers covid policy is causing people great angst. She the allowing 50,000 people to jam into State of Origin tomorrow night yet you can’t dare attend a school awards night or kids graduation.... Qld Labor’s covid policy is a complete dog’s breakfast. It’s time the premier came up with a clear strategy on how she will handle covid moving forward. There is no doubt we will continue to have covid outbreaks for possibly years to come, with or without a vaccine. The premier and her team need to create a strategy that allows for travel and for our economy to try and rebuild . Her poor decisions are turning this health crisis into a jobs and business crisis which will cause far greater deviation than covid. Who else will stick up for the Far North’s economy? 09.01.2022 Another great story about how incredible and healthy the Great Barrier Reef really is. She gets hammered by the very environment that also makes her thrive... Never let anyone tell you the Reef is dead, dying or in trouble.... the evidence is very different to the lies some people peddle.... #ReefAlive

01.01.2022 Have your say on the Reef 2050 Plan review. As things stand today Cairns’Port is hamstrung indefinitely, banning all future growth. Politicians are silent on this at present but it’s vital for future generations of Cairns people that we can grow our Port as required.... Submissions close 11.59am 30th September. Attached is the One Page submission that can be used to upload to the submission website. https://haveyoursay.awe.gov.au/reef-2050-plan
