24.01.2022 Parents are always wondering what they can do at home to help their child talk more. One SUPER EASY thing you can do is the one up. This doesnt take any planning OR extra time- and you can do it while you do whatever you are already doing! Here are some ideas to get you started!
24.01.2022 Have you ever played "two truths and a lie"? This modified version is loved by students of all ages and really helps kids understand the difference between a statement and a question. If your "news" time needs a revamp, try playing this instead - and get your kids asking thoughtful, relevant questions instead of the well-used "did you like it?" 15.01.2022 Syllables! What are they good for? Let me count the ways: - Pronouncing long words - we all know a child who can't pronounce 'ambulance', 'spaghetti' or 'hospital' - Learning new vocabulary - 'orientation' and 'conclusion' its hard to remember a new word if you can't pronounce it!... - Spelling long words - trying to sound out 3/4/5 syllable words gets a whole lot easier if you can chunk it into syllables - Relearning mispronunciations - If your parents mumble, you probably will too... they definitely can't spell it if they can't say it right! It doesn't take any extra time out of your day to use this technique, but it will make a world of difference for some of your learners.

13.01.2022 Too often we equate success with 'getting things right' and 'making mistakes' with failure. As this year comes to an end, take the time to congratulate your c...hildren for all the mistakes they've made. It's a hard thing to make a mistake and then keep on trying, but this is what your children have done all year in school, in sport, in tutoring and in life. This ability and desire to keep trying after making a mistake, rather than giving up, is called 'growth mindset' and this type of mindset leads to a host of fantastic outcomes for children and adults alike, including reduced stress, increased persistence and greater enjoyment of challenges. We hope you have a relaxing and energising break and look forward to continuing to support your children's learning through tutoring and therapy in the new year.
