21.01.2022 Sharing a lovely poem on the eve of Anzac Day 39th Battalion by Dennis OKeeffe I stood with my grandpa one cold April morn. As we heard a trumpeter bugle the dawn.... I said, Grandpa, what are those medals you wear, Were you a brave soldier, is that why theyre there? He pointed and said, See those names carved in stone, They were the bravest, they never came home. So stand with me now and salute them today, They lie buried in soil in a land far away. Later I sat on my Grandfathers knee, In the park where the start of the march was to be, He talked of Kokoda, and told me the story And ended by saying there wasnt much glory, Just young Aussies dying, so you could be free. Then he un-pinned his medals and pinned them to me, And I stood up with Grandpa and he formed in line, I held his hand as we marched to the shrine. Grandad has gone now and since then Ive grown, To be so bloody thankful he made it home. For the young men who died had no chance to have sons, Its a high price to pay to make boys carry guns. So I wear Grandpas medals on each Anzac Day, For I know, even now, theres a debt to repay To the brave 39th, on a track called Kokoda, Bloody heroes, who fought till the battle was over.

21.01.2022 Talking about death is a part of life. Join the conversation this Dying to Know Day, this Saturday 8th August. Dying to Know Day is an annual campaign that encourages end of life conversations, and we want to take the time leading up to and surrounding this event to provide resources to support you and our community to live, grieve and pass in line with your personal values. ... Where did Dying to Know Day start? It is an initiative of the Groundswell Project that was inspired by the book Dying to Know, which shared 60 ideas about encouraging conversations that "Bring death to life", from supporting loved ones, to talking to children about death, and challenging us to think of our legacy and how we wanted to be remembered.

19.01.2022 At this difficult time we appreciate the attitude of the family we looked after in Batlow today. Their adherence to social distancing and the NSW Govts restrictions on the number of mourners attending their loved ones funeral is to be commended. We understand it is difficult for families and it is difficult for us as funeral directors implementing these restrictions. If all funeral directors and families comply with these restrictions, then the NSW Dept of Health will not have further cause to reduce the number of mourners attending their loved ones farewell. We took this photo from the lookout after the service while enjoying our first pie for the season from the local bakery. It was encouraging to see the landscape regrowth following the bush fires that affected this beautiful township recently.

18.01.2022 There are dreams of love, life, and adventure in all of us. But we are also sadly filled with reasons why we shouldn't try. These reasons seem to protect us, but in truth they imprison us. They hold life at a distance. Life will be over sooner than we think. If we have bikes to ride and people to love, now is the time. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

11.01.2022 "We Will Remember Them" This ANZAC Day Australians are encouraged to privately commemorate Anzac Day, in-line with the latest health advice, and to watch the service at the Australian War Memorial. While the Service is not open to public attendance, the Service will be nationally broadcast, to enable the public to watch from their own homes. There will also be a range of other commemorative activities that will be broadcast throughout the day. Sadly overseas Anzac Day ceremon...ies are cancelled for on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey, near Villers-Bretonneux in France, including the Australian service at the Digger Memorial, Bullecourt, Hellfire Pass in Thailand, Sandakan in Malaysia and Isurava in Papua New Guinea. We are also encouraged to record the reciting of The Ode and place it on our social media platforms. The Ode of Remembrance is taken from the Laurence Binyon poem For The Fallen. ... For The Fallen was first published in 1914, not long after the start of World War One. Binyon said he wrote the poem after British and French soldiers retreated from Mons, during the Battle of the Marne, in September 1914. Words to the Ode: "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."
