25.01.2022 Hi All, due to increasing anxiety being reported in the context of Covid-19 I am opening up 4 new individual client spaces for children between the ages of 8-12... who would be suited to undertaking a generalised anxiety disorder program via Telehealth. If your child is eligible for a GP Mental Health Care Plan under the Medicare items for Covid-19 these sessions will be bulk-billed (no out of pocket fees). Children who have NDIS funding may also be interested in this program. This will be short-term individual work (up to 8 sessions per child) to support children and families during the current pandemic. If you are interested please email [email protected] to express your interest and I will be in contact with you to provide further information. Please feel free to share. See more

24.01.2022 Behind the scenes there has been lots of work happening at Dani McLennan Occupational Therapy and we have some exciting news to share! During the COVID-19 restrictions we have welcomed three new team members. Some of you have already been lucky enough to meet Keely our new allied health assistant. Keely is a trained AHA and is also studying to be an occupational therapist. Last week we welcomed Andrea and Maree. These two ladies will be our new administrative team and come wi...th many years of experience behind them. We can’t wait for you to meet them both. Our biggest news it that we are moving to a larger premises! With the growth in our team that has occurred this year we are now too big for our current location. Don’t worry we aren’t moving far. Just up the road a little! We hope to make this move happen in October as the space will allow us to ensure the better safety of both our staff and families with the ongoing and ever changing COVID-19 safety requirements. We can’t wait to show you the new space and we will update families individually on the timeline for our move. If you have any questions or concerns always feel free to contact us at [email protected]

23.01.2022 We had so much fun this week with some of our Grade 1/2’s. They worked from behind their screens to make these very cute little chickens!

20.01.2022 Our kids have been hard at work over the holidays creating these little grass heads!

13.01.2022 Due to the changes in COVID-19 restrictions and the Stage 4 5 day lockdown being implemented, all face to face appointments have been cancelled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. For those families with scheduled appointments you should now have received a text message from your clinician or our administrative team updating you on the situation. Telehealth sessions have been offered where possible and appropriate. The clinic will remain closed during this time and all clinicians will be working from home. We will continue to have our administrative team working during this time. If you have any concerns please contact the clinic from Monday morning on 0499 833 115 or email [email protected]

05.01.2022 Our social media feeds are full of the good things that home isolation can bring, time to rest, time to be with others, time to read, write, playhowever it is ...not a good thing for many. Please keep in mind that social media displays the highlight reel of people’s lives and is not a good representation of reality. When isolation is not a good thing It is not a good thing when you are a new mum and can’t seek support, encouragement or help with your new babe. It is not a good thing if you are a grandparent of a new grandchild and cannot hold that child or your own child in your arms. It is not a good thing when you are a frontline worker exposed to the virus and worry about infecting your family. It is not a good thing when you are unable to save your patients. It is not a good thing when you have lost your job and are still waiting for government support and worrying about putting food on the table. It is not a good thing when you are a parent of a child with a disability who needs the routine of their daily life to help keep feeling safe and calm. It is not a good thing when you are in the vulnerable category and each visit to the supermarket or chemist leaves you feeling anxious. It is not a good thing when you have a mental illness and isolation exacerbates your symptoms. It is not a good thing when you cannot see your therapist in the safe, quiet, private space created for you. It is not a good thing when you live alone and your joy comes from seeing your family and friends. It is not a good thing when you do not have access to technology or do not know how to use it. It is not a good thing if you have a child with a learning disability and now he or she has to learn from home without the extra supports at school. It is not a good thing when you live with an abuser and they have more access to you and you have less access to others. It is not a good thing when you love someone in the vulnerable category and you fear everyday that they will not make it through this thing. It is not a good thing when you have a physical disability and have to queue outside the supermarket to get your everyday items, which are not on the shelf when you finally get in there. It is not a good thing when you are a child or young person and home is unsafe and school is your safe place to be. When things feel really hard remind yourself that this situation is temporary and you can reach out for support. We are physically distanced but we are not emotionally distanced. Below are a list of numbers that you can call to seek support. Beyond Blue Mental Health Support 1300 22 4636 http://Beyondblue.org.au Lifeline 131114 https://www.lifeline.org.au/ 1800 RESPECT Family Violence, victims of sexual assault support https://www.1800respect.org.au/contact-us/ Carers Australia 1800 242 636 - for those caring for others https://www.carersaustralia.com.au/ Multicultural support services https://embracementalhealth.org.au QLife 1800 184 527 - LGBTQI support https://qlife.org.au/ Headspace for young people 12-15 years old 1800 650 890 https://headspace.org.au/ Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800 for ages 5-25 years https://kidshelpline.com.au/ Relationships Australia 1300 364 277 https://www.relationships.org.au/ PANDA - postnatal support 1300 726 306 https://www.panda.org.au/ I am hoping that the good things that will come out of this is increased empathy and understanding for others, being less distracted by the things we do not need and valuing how much our society is woven together by social belonging. Stay safe. This is temporary. Please share if you feel others may benefit from hearing they are not alone in this.

02.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS! After a rather hectic week the clinic is now closed until Wednesday the 6th of January. We cannot wait to show you all the changes we have made over the last few days. Thank you to all of our wonderful children and their family, friends and carers. You have done wonderful work despite the many challenges faced this year. ... We wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas!

01.01.2022 We are looking to put some regular groups together for the duration of Term 2! These groups will have between 3-5 kids participating and will use Zoom to connect. The groups will have OT activities built into them but a strong focus will be placed on providing an opportunity for kids to connect with one another during this time where the majority of children will not be having regular contact with other children their own age. We would love to know if you would be interested in having your child participate? We are happy to open these groups to children who may not have regular appointments with one of our team members. We will just need you to attend a telehealth session prior to ensure the group is suitable for their needs.
