24.01.2022 It looks like we are getting less intellectual.Researchers from the Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research in Norway analysed some 730,000 IQ test scores of 18 to 19-year-old Norwegian men who took the tests as part of their compulsory military service. The tests took place between 1970 and 2009 and showed a turning point for the Flynn effect occurred for the post-1975 birth cohorts. Those born in 1991 scored about five points lower than those born in 1975, and three points lower than those born in 1962. Quite scary! https://www.news.com.au///ce3475a0817e65bd6e7710cca8b55074

23.01.2022 Danish sign language interpreters are at centre of fraud scandal. Apparently, a lot of sign language interpreters have been misusing their entitlement for a 20 hours of paid interpreting job per week. They have been invoicing councils for up $16,500.00 per month, sharing these wages with their clients for the services they actually never received. Michael Skou Vestergaard reported himself to the police for the fraud actions in the amount of DKK 600,000 (approx.$130,000). The police have started investigating other interpreters.https://politiken.dk//Danske-d%C3%B8ve-unders%C3%B8ges-for

20.01.2022 Row over interpreting contract in Denmark intensifies. EasyTranslate landed one of the biggest public sector contracts. The $100 million (DKK 520 million) four-year contract was supposed to meet all language requirements from Denmarks Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Immigration and Integration, however the company constantly fails to provide proper interpreting services. 19.01.2022 It is great to read about the DKK 75 mln. package delivered by the Århus City Council and Salling Foundation to support the City's cultural life during COVID-19. It would be even better if Australian chains David Jones and Myer could follow the Salling's initiative and do something good for the cultural life in Australia!

14.01.2022 Danish interpreters and translators protest against a tender result which was awarded to a single translation agency. Earlier, the Danish National Police used to contact interpreters who were on their list. Now, they will use the single provider who has won this contract. The interpreters have already complained that their fees have been reduced, in some cases by 60%. https://www.bt.dk//tolke-gaar-sammen-i-faelles-front-mod-n

14.01.2022 If you have lived more than 3 years in Denmark and you still need an interpreter to explain a medical problem or condition, you now need to pay for it yourself. Visit to a GP with an interpreter will cost you 344 DKK and 1,675 DKK for a treatment in hospital. A lot of medical professionals have already expressed their concerns - they are worried that it may affect disadvantaged groups of immigrants and refugees.

02.01.2022 Tomorrow, on the 23rd of June, Danes will celebrate Sankt Hans, or Midsummer. If you are in Denmark, prepare to witness bonfires all over the country, and a lot of fun.The bonfires usually look like witches, made out of straw and cloth, in reference to the European wars of religion when witches were burnt at the stake. Rumors say, the witches fly back to Bloksbjerg in Harz, Germany, where it is suspected that a big witch hunt took place on that day. Photo credit: Odense Kommune
