25.01.2022 II Growth II Each year I set myself a challenge to go away and get better. Nudging closer and closer in awards, learning in the process but still trying to forge my own path. I started a series on the Land of Elemental beauty, it’s about telling the landscapes untold stories. I love textures and patterns.... I was super surprised to get the email I finished in the Top 20 in landscape. So many beautiful portfolios by some absolute superstars I admire. Next year... well it just means I’ve set myself the goal of Top 10. Thanks Marc and the team at @capture.mag. I really am honoured.

24.01.2022 When I started photography, I shot sunsets all the time and as time has gone by I've shot less and less sunsets. I try to shoot sunrise because in general less people are around, but enjoy sunset. This is one of the last sunsets I shot, shooting from the Gun Deck on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Waiting for the right amount of light so I can attempt some light trails. Maybe I need to start shooting sunsets again...

24.01.2022 If you have never visited the Australian War Memorial, I highly recommend it. It's a beautiful piece of architecture and you could really spend all day in this place and getting lost in the history. I went to check out some of the photographs by Frank Hurley. A photographer I learnt about at uni and without doubt one of my all time favourites.

23.01.2022 The King // I am really fortunate each year I get to work with an incredible team of super talented people at the Australian Open. This years event was like no other and no two days were the same. Which I actually really liked and loved the challenge. One of the highlights was the amazing artwork by the insanely talented Paink. So with that in mind I embarked on a journey to create some artwork that highlighted his amazing artwork.... So I have created 5 artworks celebrating the amazing work if Paink!

23.01.2022 Your interior design sets the tone for all those who enter. Create a completely tranquil atmosphere or stimulate any space with profound vibrancy. You can make a statement with a fine art piece, printed to the highest quality from a world leading photographic lab. This image is part of a new collection of images released. With only 100 prints available, you can snap up a framed copy of Autumn Symphony for your home for under $500.00. Unframed prints from $100.00

23.01.2022 Black Cockatoos I am contemplating having this one as a new print release? What do you think?

20.01.2022 II Perseverance II I’ve had this shot in mind for a few years, but for lots of reasons in most cases weather... conditions just never lined up for me to get it. This is really an iconic building not far from home, I’d always wanted to do something different but sometimes it just takes a bit of perseverance.

19.01.2022 I was lucky to have two amazing guides in Canberra today who helped me find some amazing buildings that I might be able to create a series of images on architecture on. Special thanks to Paul and Steph who helped me explore Canberra, find these amazing buildings and give me a list of places to head back and visit again in the future.

19.01.2022 II In Awe II I have never been to a location and been so overwhelmed by my surroundings. Karijini has that immediate impact and I am dying to get back. The emerald pools, that are so incredible to swim in and lie back and take in your surroundings. The textures and colours that hypnotise you with there beauty.... I think 2021 will be a trip back to Karijini.

19.01.2022 ‘ ’ Exploring new parts of the Otways is always great fun. I don’t know what it is, but I feel if I don’t leave covered in mud I haven’t worked hard enough to get the shot. I do enjoy hiking and exploring, heading to and finding places that are not as shot as other locations that do take a bit of effort to get to. A few leeches hitched a ride on the journey also.... Ahhh to be out exploring again!

19.01.2022 Is there anything more rewarding than someone loving your work enough to purchase? This image is titled "Serenity" and is taken deep within the Eynesbury Forest. A client wanted to purchase an image taken locally that reflected the local surroundings, but also wanted the effect that they were looking out a window onto a beautiful scene.... This 60inch fine art print is beautifully finished with a white box frame.

18.01.2022 The past few weeks, not being able to get out and photograph some beautiful locations, I have been helping out a variety of businesses with various digital projects. Whether it be social media content creation, website content creation, and e-commerce product photography. tenniscoaching.com.au contacted me through lockdown to help them out with their website and to assist with creating a new fresh look. Providing some new images, and a more timeless look for their business. That will include post lockdown, heading to various venues and taking a new range of photographic images that best represents their own branding and tone of voice.

18.01.2022 Farm Life // This is a really busy time of year for farmers. Harvest is about to begin, and most are bailing Hay and Oats for feed. Last nights sunset had all the makings of a ripper, but low cloud on the horizon, that colour just couldn't break through. BUT this was looking behind me. Always remember to look behind ;)... Note: This photo was taken with permission of the local farm, make sure you always ask permission.

17.01.2022 II Veins II One thing I was fascinated about at a Lake Eyre was the intertwining river veins that reach for the waters edge that line different parts of the Warburton Groove. It certainly reminds me of a water painting.

17.01.2022 II Rugged II Getting home late last night I debated if I would attempt to shoot this set of falls which is about 10 minutes from home and it only runs with a lot of rain. With only a couple of hours of light left I headed down, I was glad I went with hiking pants and rock boots! It’s pretty rugged at the bottom, it’s not the prettiest waterfall, but I love this old gum tree.... I got the shot I was after, but left with scratches from box thorns, soaking wet and covered in mud. What I love about landscape photography.

16.01.2022 "There is no greater complement as a photographer than someone love your work enough to purchase it and have it hanging on their wall." I have been really busy the last couple of weeks, preparing images for an exhibition and preparing some limited edition prints for my online print store which I hope will be ready to go next week. But in the meantime, signing prints the last week has been great fun. I love looking at prints, whether they are mine or other photographers. Social media never does an image justice!

16.01.2022 I spent some time in Canberra the last few weeks and it was great to spend some time exploring some architecture with some amazing people and friends. I wanted to spend some time scouting some locations that I hope to go back in shoot in Jan/Feb maybe, but sometimes you get what you are after also. This is an InfraRed shot I took within the James Turrell - Within Without. Infra-Red is a kind of more gritty black and white image.... I will however post some colour images in the next few days, because the colours are wow!

16.01.2022 II Milky Way II So after a bit of planning for this shoot everything aligned... well kind of. I knew when the Milky Way would aligned with the horizon, it was suppose to be 100% clear sky. Unfortunately the moon wasn’t going to help light the canola, but I’d worked all that out.... But who knew one of the neighbouring farms had these super intense spotlights! The plan was to shoot down the hill, but the spotlights would kill the shot. Light painting also wasn’t planned, but the gear was in the bag. So this is plan B. Sometimes plan Bs work better than plan As Note: I had permission to shoot this canola field, in fact the farmer was with me. Curfew was also not broken. Please do not climb into canola fields! It's a farmers livelihood.

15.01.2022 Happy Spring Everyone It’s a great time of year as flowers begin to flower. But keep in mind Canola crops are a farmers livelihood. #staybehindthefence. Climbing in is trespassing. I took this one from behind the fence with a telephoto lens.... Can you spot the couple of wildlife intruders?

14.01.2022 Storms // Are you ready Melbourne? They are on there way! I’m set up and ready to hopefully get some more photos as the storms roll in. Some of the storm chasers have already been posting some great footage and photos in the North West of the state.... I love storms, watching lightning, and listening to the sky rumbling! Who else loves storms?

14.01.2022 II Reminiscing II It would have been almost a year today I was walking around Vivid in Sydney for the first time. Exploring the lights and activations and enjoying the atmosphere around the harbour. The isolation has given me a chance to really sort out some of my digital files and go through shots. I didn’t post one of these last year because I wasn’t sure on the fog. But a year later I kind of like the fog.

12.01.2022 "Support The Artist" I love photography, and I think as an artist it is important to support other artists, it also inspires me to grow as a photographer myself. I know I could buy a book for example from a bookstore or online and its cheaper, but did you know the artist makes very little from commission of that sale. In fact the people that make the most is the company selling it, and yes I know that is business.... So I buy direct from the artist, photographer or whoever. Sometimes the price is the same, some times its a little bit more... But the difference is the Artist makes all the money. I brought a book a few days ago from an artist you may or may not be familiar with... RONE. His work is amazing, so much so it inspired me to see the silo's he painted in Geelong, and as part of the silo tour and Burnham Beaches. Buying from the artist, might also just get you a signed copy.

11.01.2022 InfraRed Photography // I've post a few images of late utilising InfraRed photography and or InfraRed black and white. So I thought I would explain it a bit further. So what is InfraRed? Simply put, infrared light is electromagnetic radiation, just as all forms of light happen to be. The reason we can’t see infrared light with our naked eyes is because we are only capable of perceiving a relatively small portion of the light spectrum.... I started InfraRed photography to learn more about light, but also to create some images in harsh light. I do love black and white but I wanted a point of difference. I love the white trees.. Through studying photography I experimented with colour images converting them, I purchased an IR filter before deciding I wanted to shoot more and had a camera converted. But since graduating, I haven't done much since. It was great to get out a few weeks ago and shoot some architecture and create some stronger Black and White images for my portfolio. Check out the comments, I will add what a simple black and white conversion of a colour image looks like.

11.01.2022 Help // When your cries for help finally get answered. #2020isolation Some of the most vulnerable are isolating from the covid-19 pandemic that is gripping the world.... All it takes is an act of kindness to check on neighbours, family and friends and offer #help in any way shape or form.

10.01.2022 Preparing For Print // I have spent most of today working on this image for print. Normally when I edit images I try to spend about 10-15minutes editing the one image I might keep/favourite and upload to social media. But for print is completely different!... I have spent probably 5-6 hours, proofing this image on my EIZO monitor (colour managed) using a profile for the paper I intent to print this on, working on the largest size I will print this... which is about 1m tall. Now I have got the image closer to the finished result. I will test print this full size and go over the image with a fine tooth comb, looking for imperfections, things I might have missed, do I need to make any adjustments and the big question... Is it ready to print a final?

10.01.2022 II Inspire II I took this out at Haasts Bluff in a remote indigenous community. A nice clear night, I showed some of the community some of the weird and crazy things you can create with a camera. This is in the junk yard or as they call it the car cemetery. They thought I was mad wanting to take photos in the junk yard.... But I love it when they see the results and what it looks like even on the screen. It’s why I love teaching photography. This trip was so much fun, teaching photography and some of the photos they created were incredible. Note: always make sure you know the area, clear from objects that might set alight and always have a fire extinguisher.

09.01.2022 Strength // I entered this image into The Mono Awards. On the back of todays winners announcement I am really excited to find out I finished in the Top 30... 26th to be exact in the places category.... Strength is based on a series I am completing on glyphs and light painting. The three circles in are representative of strength.

04.01.2022 Without a doubt one of the most incredible places I have ever been!

04.01.2022 " " The colours always look better after some rain. We’ve had a bit of rain over the weekend and I thought the last couple of years hasn’t been as good for the oak trees which have been really affected by the drought. Took a couple of sneaky photos whilst out enjoying a walk.

03.01.2022 LUMINOUS, Trentham Falls Trentham Falls is one of the longest single drop waterfalls in Victoria, plunging some 32 metres over ancient basalt columns. Winter see’s Trentham at its most spectacular with winter rain creating its strongest flow. BUT most people see the falls during the day. This shot was taken about one hour after sunset. I had been exploring Trentham Falls for most of the afternoon and testing locations that I had in mind for some astro photography. As twilight... faded, the stars above began to light up the night sky. It is amazing to watch landscapes change in different light. As the sun headed down over the horizon it created a small glow in the night sky. That soft glow and a long exposure was enough to create that soft illumination of the landscape. I find the night sky calming, looking up at the stars and dreaming of a better tomorrow. Limited edition prints are available https://www.daniellewatson.com.au/smlep/luminous

03.01.2022 EXPRESSION OF INTEREST Waterfall Workshop // Have you ever wanted to learn to shoot better waterfalls?... A one day intensive waterfall workshop photographing Victoria’s most amazing beautiful waterfalls in the Otway Ranges, strictly limited to 3 participants on Saturday 6th March 2021. If you are interested let me know.

01.01.2022 II Lavender Bay II On top of the world... haha no just on top of Sydney Harbour Bridge! This was the shot I wanted to take, I love Luna Park and looking down onto it from the top of the bridge was amazing. Lavender Bay was just spectacular especially with the warm sunset light, although the sunset didn’t really eventuate, the few minutes of golden light was incredible. Waiting to the perfect timing for my little friends the yellow ferries to come into the frame. It was definitely an experience I will never forget with BridgeClimb Sydney in the world first opportunity to shoot from the bridge.
