21.01.2022 Week 3 of run squad is back tomorrow morning. 6:15-7am at the South Pine Sports Complex. Always a good set of intervals and run drills to make you a faster and more efficient runner.

19.01.2022 The ONLY programming principle you need to know... The aim with programming and training is to just be better than you were yesterday. Simple. ... And we can’t achieve this by having success at every turn. We must fail. If we’re constantly succeeding then we’re not being pushed hard enough and you’ll never find that threshold you need to surpass to become a better athlete. We can quite easily get caught up in the minutiae of training plans, sets, reps, intensity and setting goal time PBs etc but being better means more than just getting faster. There are lots of other qualities to develop as an athlete and none of us have them all. Resilience, confidence, over coming fears, independence, are just a few areas outside of the sets/reps/distance/time scheme that we can get stuck in. For most, this time of year gives us more time to sit back and think about the year ahead and what it is we might like to achieve. By all means plot the races you want to do and enjoy the excitement of entering and having that goal to keep you motivated. But also think about two things. The first being what am I good at? And the second, what am I not good at? From the triathlete’s perspective don’t answer this with oh I’m good at running and I suck at swimming. That’s too small minded. Instead it might be, oh I’m good at getting up early and starting my day with a good training session but I’m not good at dealing with the unknown on race day. Because you want to make your good qualities even better and you want your bad qualities to stop being things that hold you back. Focusing on making your good qualities better can really help with improving your confidence and gives you something to hinge your training and racing on while improving your bad qualities can you make you a more well rounded athlete. With more time on our hands at the moment and not much racing a good way to do this is with challenges. Now before you log onto strava and complete a run 300k in a month challenge or something like that actually take on a proper challenge. A challenge in terms of becoming a better athlete is something which actually forces you out of your comfort zone. For example you’re terrified of open water but you complete a swim 10k in a pool challenge. Turns out it wasn’t a challenge at all. You just had to turn the arms over and it was just a factor of time that you would finish. But swim 10k open water and all of sudden it’s a totally different situation. There is a real fear of failure. Your brain has to engage with fear and you have to force yourself to rationally think and apply your whole body as its completely up to you to finish and deal with the unknown. So make 2021 about not being scared to fail. It’s the times we fail that actually make us better

17.01.2022 These 2 smashed their T2 bike>run session this morning. Wound them up with figure 8s and a couple of bike only transition sets then into a flat out bike + run. Easily my favourite session of the week to coach .

11.01.2022 WEEKEND RACE RESULTS Busy weekend of racing with some great results across the board. Locally a few of us headed to Caloundra for just a hit out but for Charlotte it was her last tune up before her 'A' race at the State Championships this Friday in Hervey Bay. For Charlotte it was great to hear feedback that she was able to hold on to a group of strong riders who came past her on the bike (being a front pack swimmer she's used to seeing the strong cyclists catch up to h...er). Newcomer to the squad, Bre surprised herself with a win in the enticer in her first ever triathlon! Not a bad way start to your triathlon career. Scotty had a solid race and for someone who hasn't been able to run much lately was pleasing to see him put a race together on his way to getting ready for Tweed Coast Enduro in 3 weeks time. In the Hell of the West long course triathlon we had Zac and Aaron. Both have had great preparations and in what is his 'A' race Zac absolutely smashed it! A 48min course PB with a 37km/h bike split! Great execution from both him and Aaron to both go under 5hrs. Well done lads. 08.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY This was just an amazing event! If this event where to be on nowadays it would be cancelled. No doubt. I remember watching this as a kid and seeing blokes just get thrown off there skis. It was amazing. To give you an idea of the surf conditions. In Australia we measure the size of a wave from the back. So if we said 6 foot that's from the back of the wave to the top. So from the front it's a lot taller. Now also think about this when you watch th...e video. The skis these guys are paddling are 6 foot long and you will see when they are going down the wave they're alot shorter than the wave! Imagine standing one of these skis vertical on the ground and looking up. They reckon these waves were 18-20 foot and these blokes swam out in those conditions. It's a 4 part youtube video with the format being a swim>ski>board. Watch the swim video then the ski video. Simply amazing no one died let alone went in and out 3 times! https://youtu.be/alC2vKv94GU
