20.01.2022 During these unprecedented times we are committed to providing you and your family the best service possible. We are open for business as usual, until notified of new precautions. We will be adopting new health & safety precautions. Vehicles will be wiped down prior to commencing any work, Eftpos machines will be sanitised between clients and we will be using face masks when changing cabin filters. If you are exhibiting any signs of illness, have been in contact with someone... suspected to have COVID-19 or travelled overseas in the last 14 days we are unable to assist and will need to delay work on your vehicle. Please call to rebook or cancel. To protect you and your family we recommend you consider having your cabin filter replaced and your vehicle HVAC system sanitised. Cabin filters are a culprit for breeding bacteria and releasing it into the air you breathe in. Stay safe.
20.01.2022 Yes, I do service new and second-hand vehicles under manufacture or dealership warranties. No, it will not void your warranty. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), you can go outside the car dealership servicing network, and still preserve your new car warranty, requiring you meet 3 fundamental conditions: 1. The service must be completed by ‘qualified staff’; in other words, a qualified mechanic. 2. Servicing must be done to ‘manufacturer’s... specifications’. This includes when the service is due (kilometres or time, whichever is earlier) and all jobs specified for the service are complete. 3. The parts and fluids must be genuine or OEM equivalent. Genuine parts can be very costly. Where there are high quality OEM equivalent parts available on the market that suit the individual needs of the vehicle, such as Penrite or Ryco, I use these so I can pass the savings on to you. Call Dan (your qualified mechanic) for a very competitive quote or to book in your new service - 0447 750 664.
19.01.2022 Does your car not run like it used to; run rough, lack power or inefficient on fuel? Replacing spark plugs, fuel filters and air filters at the correct service intervals can play a major part in the performance of your engine, fuel consumption and power output. These are often overlooked in regular services and can contribute to premature engine failure if left long term. Contact Dan on 0447 750 664 to discuss how he can help to get more out of your vehicle.
19.01.2022 E10 is a blend of 90% unleaded fuel and up to 10% ethanol. Whilst this results in environmental emission benefits, there is a common misconception that it is compatible with all cars. Ethanol contains more water by volume than unleaded fuel. The increased water content can corrode engine and fuel system components. The effects of E10 on noncompatible engines are becoming more frequent so I wanted to give my customers the heads up. Generally European, turbo or performance vehicles should fuel with a minimum octane of 95 or 98. You can check you make and model of vehicle on the Queensland Government website - https://e10ok.initiatives.qld.gov.au/
18.01.2022 Could you have a rat in your HVAC system too? This is a job I completed recently and the owner had no knowledge of these squatters. Does your vehicle A/C have a weird or offensive odour? If so there is definitely something wrong with the A/C system that is not only impacting your comfort but may also be affecting your health. Common causes for A/C smells include: Mildew, mould or bacteria on the evaporator due to excess water dripped in your unit. Breathing in these conta...minates could potentially make you or your family sick. Gas Leaks from the evaporator or antifreeze leaking from the heater core. Both gas and antifreeze are toxic and harmful to the environment. Dirty or Clogged cabin filter. Call Dan for a very competitive quote or to book in - 0447 750 664.
17.01.2022 Do you own a manual 4x4 or high-performance vehicle with a clutch that just isn’t up to the job? If your clutch is slipping, shuddering or not feeling the way it should between gear changes, these can all be early warning signs of a worn or failing clutch. If you use your vehicle for towing, off-roading, racing or daily commuting, Dan’s Automotive Services can offer standard duty and full heavy duty / performance clutch upgrades and conversions to suit your requirements 0447 750 664. Here’s a few photos of a clutch upgrade I completed recently, with the durability and versatility to meet the vehicles use for towing, touring, 4wding and commuting.

15.01.2022 A timing belt is an integral part of your vehicle’s engine, rotating the camshaft and crankshaft in synchronisation. Due to the load that it is under, when a timing belt breaks it does so catastrophically. You don’t want to be driving at 100km/hr when your vehicle’s engine suddenly stops. This can commonly result in bent valves and damage to the cylinder head, camshaft or pistons, and, in turn, a trip on the back of a truck and thousands in repair work. This can often amount to more money than a new car. Car manufactures specify the frequency of timing belt replacement in the vehicle log book, generally being around every 100,000km or every 10 years, whichever is first.
12.01.2022 This HZJ-105 came to us with a substantial overheating and blow-by issue, due to a very poor tune and aftermarket turbo setup. This made it a constant problem for the owner to drive. After rebuilding the 1HZ with some cooling modifications for the block and after market turbo, we also installed a new HD clutch kit, some gauges to keep an eye on the vitals and fixed up the A/C system to keep things cool inside the cab. It’s not every day we have to de-tune an engine, because... it makes more power then what we were expecting. With no adjustments at all to the injector pump, on its second pull the 1HZ-T made over 200hp and 680nm at the wheels. To keep things reliable and not stress the engine unnecessarily we de-tuned to 158hp and 526nm. Ample for the customers requirements. As most Landcruiser owners will know, the 1HZ is not the biggest fan of forced induction, but with the correct setup, careful and thorough tuning it can be made very reliable and give great performance. Below are some pictures of what we found inside the boost compensator of the original modified injector pump fitted to this engine when it came to us. No way of adjusting at all and a series of spacers and butchered spring. The work of cowboy tuners and ultimately the root of all the engine issues.

09.01.2022 It’s not every day I get asked to work on a vehicle 3 times my age, but I thank the owners of this little piece of history for giving me the opportunity. I was asked to get this particular vehicle in full running order, as it now has a very important role as a wedding car at the beautiful Bracknell Lodge. This is a short video of me giving the 1927 Erskine it’s first run after all the repairs.

06.01.2022 S-Type Jag had an engine light on and was running rough. Fortunately, the customer noticed that the vehicle was not performing as it should, even before the engine light came on, and we were contacted early. I diagnosed the issues, replaced O2 Sensors, fixed a vacuum leak and rectified cooling system issues. The condition of the O2 sensors as shown in the photo demonstrates the car has been already running at low efficiency (carbon build up) and the air-fuel ratio was sub-optimal (melted/ visible damage). Had these issues not been managed they had potential to eventuate into significantly reduced engine power, poor fuel economy and potential engine damage (catalytic converters). This can be become very costly to rectify. Give Dan a call to book in your next service including a comprehensive vehicle check over 0447 750 664

03.01.2022 This young apprentice might have a knack for the tools. Found kitten Lilo exploring one of my project cars this afternoon.
02.01.2022 First start for the 1927 Erskine and it runs pretty well for 93 years old. After a month of searching the country high and low for some new parts, I finally got the engine back together and fixed up all the very perished wiring. Just some final tuning to do and it’s ready to go.
01.01.2022 Size does matter! Alternator upgrades enable a higher charge rate for vehicles equipped with dual battery systems or high amp hour deep cycle batteries. Recently we upgraded a Toyota Hilux from a factory 103Amp alternator to an aftermarket 130Amp alternator so this customer could get more out of their 4x4. Give Dan a call today to discuss whether an alternator upgrade will benefit your vehicle 0447 750 664.
